Horrible place of business
School Aide (Former Employee) –  Bronx, NYJuly 31, 2018
Office staff is worked to death. Management sucks. They expect you to live your lfe there taking care of kids that are not yours. There is only an half hour lunch break and you are mandated to work 7am- 5pm. They do not tell you this when you are interviewed.

Teaching Assistant for kindergarten (Former Employee) –  Bronx, NYJuly 31, 2018
At SBC there is a high demand to be perfect. One mistake and its out the door. Children are amazing. Higher ups do not like when first year educators have opinions. I felt there were not enough POC teaching although there is an abundance of POC attending the school. There was a lot of belittling and sarcasm, but that comes with the schooling system i guess.

Over all the children and cohorts were the highlight of the day, but i had a major hill to climb being asked to come on mid year and then being let go for not professionally growing.

Amazing children who are willing to learn and come prepared.
Pros
Children, co-teacher, assistant teachers
Cons
management, dialogue from higher ups, consideration for others

Hard Work but rewarding
Associate Kindergarten Teacher (Former Employee) –  Bronx, NYJune 10, 2018
Working at Classical is very rewarding in the classroom, but you must also adhere to a very structured way of work. The management is very much top down and to some degree micro-aggressions rise because of this. —however if you are a hard worker you get a lot of working there and there is lots of room to grow.

Stressful workplace
Teacher, Learning Specialist (Current Employee) –  Bronx, NYJanuary 11, 2018
There is no work/life balance at South Bronx Classical Charter School. Administration does not care about employee happiness or stress levels. It is not a recommended environment.

Operations Intern/ Teaching Fellow (Former Employee) –  Bronx, NYJanuary 8, 2018
Too many demands on the teachers. No work life balance. Management is tough and very critical. Not enough professional development. Unfair pay for amount of hours worked.
Pros
Friendly working staff
Cons
mentally oppressive

High Standards, excellent colleagues
Operations Manager (Current Employee) –  Bronx, NYNovember 18, 2017
The school is located in the poorest congressional district and beats almost all NYC charter schools in the city and state on test scores. Staff are highly motivated, work incredibly hard, and are all colleagues that are easy to work with and respect. Word days are long and expectations are rigorous, bring your A game.

Operations Assistant, NY (Former Employee) –  Bronx, NYAugust 30, 2015
Fun work place while working with a range of students, parents, administrators and guests. Plenty of responsibilities that provided me with the ability to multitask and develop plenty of skills.

A local effort to weave parents into charter school missions.
President (Former Employee) –  Bronx, NYNovember 10, 2012
An excellent opportunity to reach out and shape the judgements and expectations of charter school parents and conjoin the local inner city public school worries with the currents in public education in the broader context.
