Very stifling and dispiriting work culture

The management at CLS cultivates a work environment which is characterized by fear and intimidation. Employees are scared to express their opinions. Senior executives are very "clicky" and do not promote a culture of inclusiveness. I never felt comfortable offering my opinion, especially when mine deviated from the group consensus. Senior executives and team leaders make a concerted effort to target certain employees for elimination who do not tow the company line. Communication is very poor throughout the company and often is non-existent at the team level.

Your job is often dictated by the demands of the Federal Reserve as CLS is very highly regulated. Employees often have no say in how their workflow processes are accomplished.

CLS is not a fun place to work (except if you are one of the select few in the executive team with travel privileges). A typical day at work is characterized by monotonous, tedious routine. Many of the positions at the company are mandated by the regulators and would not exist otherwise. There is very little opportunity for growth or advancement and employee turnover is extremely high! Many employees leave inside one year!

Great benefits, nice people and overall great atmosphere. CLS is a great place to work and a good work like balance. CLS Bank treats their employees well.

Poor management and to many silos.

Lots of in-fighting and engineering is very poor. CLS hires very entry level employees to engineer very complex solutions. The solutions in place are broken and many fire drills to fix the issues.

The people at CLS are amazing. It is a young company that is transitioning. A great place for someone starting out in their career. You will have direct contact to senior mgmt.

Going through a transition

The bank is going through a transition which it desperately needs to. The practices on the way out are all of the inefficient, slow and overblown processes as the bank begins to focus on acting more efficiently, effectively and with a tighter focus on cost control.

As an experienced professional with a track record of delivering efficiencies, I welcome this change. However, the change is proving very painful for the organization as a whole. In about 12 to 18 months, I believe it will be a much better place to work.
