good hands-on internship
engineering and technology intern (Current Employee) - Saxonburg, PA - August 4, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI really enjoyed most of my summer internship experience with coherent corp. The work i completed was interesting but not what I thought I would be doing based on my initial interview. I did not have a lot of mentorship or feedback from team members which made my work extra challenging. Despite this, i enjoyed engaging with everyone especially the intern program team as they did a lot to virtually bring all of the interns together!
Pros
independent work, popcorn fridays
Cons
independent work, not fully remote

Warehousing work
Material Handler (Former Employee) - Sherman, TX - August 16, 2023
Working in the warehouse you will be set up for failure by leadership, your supervisor will disappear for hours out of the day nowhere to be found they will come in later and leave earlier than you. The supervisor on second end of shift isn’t that bad he makes himself readily available willing to help but the supervisor on the first end of of shift will not hold everyone to the same expectations he plays favorites.
Pros
Hours
Cons
Job stability

Great learning and advanced tech exposure
Test Engineering Intern (Current Employee) - Fremont, CA - August 4, 2023
This internship has provided a valuable opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies like high-speed transmission testing and network switches. The company has a robust technical environment, which provides practical learning experiences beyond what is typically taught in academic settings. Overall, it's been a rewarding learning experience, and I look forward to seeing how the company continues to evolve the technology.

Great Summer Internship Program
Software Automation Intern (Current Employee) - Saxonburg, PA - August 4, 2023
During my time as a software automation intern, I had an enriching experience working with a team led by friendly and supportive management. The learning opportunities provided were exceptional, allowing me to enhance my skills in various aspects of automation and software development.

Great place for interns
Supply Chain Intern (Former Employee) - East Granby, CT - August 4, 2023
My experience as an intern at Coherent has been exceptional thus far. My team is super helpful and they are always available to help me if I get stuck. I have been involved in some very good projects and this in-turn helped me in developing a deeper understanding in the practical world of supply chain. Also, the HR team is very helpful. They organized a lot of fun events for the interns such as the spotlight guest speaker series where we get to know more about the different functions of the company in detail and also ensured a smooth onboarding process. I am grateful to be a part of Coherent's family and contribute to its success and its mission.

Review of electrical engineering summer internship
Electrical Engineering Intern (Current Employee) - Saxonburg, PA - August 3, 2023
Working at Coherent Corp. for my 2023 summer internship was an awesome experience. I previously worked for the company in 2022, and will say that the internship program definitely took a step up in 2023. Spotlight speaker events were a great way to be introduced more into the background of the company as a whole. While Saxonburg is not necessarily the most ideal location to work for me, I felt extremely welcomed by all of the other staff and personnel. I am extremely grateful for this experience, and absolutely would apply again for an internship position if I could.
Pros
Great work environment, good food trucks, great people
Cons

Amazing Summer Internship Program
Optical Technician/Engineering Intern (Former Employee) - Budd Lake, NJ - August 3, 2023
From my first day I felt very welcomed by management and other employees but starting in a newly created internship position, I was uncertain of what exactly I was going to be working on. It took a few days for my work arrangements to be set up and some time to adjust but after a week or so, I felt very comfortable in my role and my managers began to give me steady work and trust me to independently complete it. Working in manufacturing engineering, I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from many employees here who have been eager to share their knowledge and experience, providing me a deeper understanding of the manufacturing processes done at Coherent's location here in Budd Lake, NJ. The HR/Recruitment team has done a great job organizing intern activities like workshops and guest speaker events. Unlike some other internships, the work that I am doing is meaningful and I feel appreciated by management and other staff.
Pros
Flexible work schedule, hybrid option, great management, friendly work environment
Cons
None

Pros
Popcorn
Cons

Great Software Internship Experience
Intern - Software Controls and Automation (Former Employee) - Saxonburg, PA - August 1, 2023
As a software intern at Coherent, I've had the opportunity to work on real-world data and grow my skillset. The projects that I was assigned were both tailored to my experience and also made to challenge me by teaching me new skills that will be useful in the future, like working in SQL databases and using Power BI. At the Saxonburg location, there's a good culture surrounding interns, so the workplace felt welcoming upon arrival, and I've had the opportunity to meet and work with many new people. The company also does a great job of engaging with interns through both virtual and in-person events. All in all, it's been a very positive experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering!

Great place for an intern
Engineering and Technology Intern (Former Employee) - Pine Brook, NJ - July 31, 2023
My first day was chaotic, as my boss was on vacation and HR was not answering any questions I had before I arrived. It seemed like they did not have a plan for me when I got there, but after the first few days everything was great. I got paid really well (especially as just an intern) and in return I believe I contributed my part to the company's R+D team. My manager told me work that I needed to do, then trusted that I would do it without a second thought (with a few check-ins, but I was mostly independent). They let me work the hours I wanted, which I greatly appreciated because it let me avoid traffic during my long commute. Overall great place to work at least as an intern!

Why did I come Here
To many to tell (Former Employee) - Saxonburg, PA - June 24, 2023
They claim to have record high quarters every single quarter but cut our bonuses and raises. When one area gets slow they move all of those workers to a different area to help those areas so if you are a new employee do not plan on ever being fully trained where you were originally hired. They pay is below what you should get for the items we make here and what they are used for.
Pros
Lunches, paid break
Cons
Bad pay, bad HR, Bad management. Management only care about their pockets

Great place to work
Fabrication Technician II (Former Employee) - Port Richey, FL - May 30, 2023
Very relaxed work environment with friendly co-workers. Overall great place to work, they are very organized on all aspects of the hiring/training process. However the overall need for organization does negatively impact how quickly anything can be done there.

Senior Laser Manufacturing Engineer Tech & Graphic Designer (Former Employee) - Monrovia, CA - May 26, 2023
Was allowed plenty of latitude by my immediate Management to explore new concepts & techniques to better Production-Yields and Quality - Result was improving our yield from ~45% to over 95%. Thrilled and Proud my ideas were implemented.
Pros
Power to Grow
Cons
Located in CA

Not a good place to work.
Wafer Fab Operator (Former Employee) - Sherman, TX - May 17, 2023
Management is terrible, HR acts like your bothering them when you have a question. If you go out on leave they loose your papers and will have you to resubmit them more than once. They show favoritism, If you kiss A@@ you will be fine here!!! This company was much better when it was Finisar!! The most enjoyable part of this job is the off days...
Pros
Your off days.

It's a safe, clean and nice place to work.
Technician (Current Employee) - East Granby, CT - May 6, 2023
Its a much better place to work these days now that some of the longer-term employees have moved on. It is a relaxed environment and management is flexible and attentive to employee's needs. They do have a social committee that plans theme-based luncheons occasionally. Medical benefits are ok and affordable. Yearly raises are not the best. Training can be difficult. knowledgeable employees hold information close to their chest and there is favoritism here, its your job to be likable, flexible and non-threatening (as I'm not here to steal your job non-threatening *wink*) Overall this is a good place to work, its safe and clean. A good place for a young person to start but for the ambitious person probably not to stay here too long.
Pros
Clean, safe, an occasional free lunch.
Cons
Training, training, training and raises.

Process Engineer Technician (Former Employee) - Sherman, TX - April 18, 2023

Pros
Good pay, good people
Cons
Seems management was not paying attention

Productive and fun workplace @ first but over the years became less tolerable.
Seed Technician (Former Employee) - Pine Brook, NJ - April 15, 2023
I enjoyed the experience of working with this company in the beginning of my tenure but over the years as I ve come to witness how rumors/ gossipy the culture was around the workplace in regards to coworkers, supervisors, production manager, it made my experience intolerable over time. Not to mention there isn't even an active normal HR department at this site to express your concerns. Wouldn't recommend.
Pros
Quarterly bonuses, work schedule
Cons
Underpaid, poor raises

I try to forget I ever had this job.
Inventory (Former Employee) - Murrieta, CA - April 12, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Supervisor was abusive and management had a long history (years) of sweeping it under the rug. Horrible work environment. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The abusive supervisor and being fearful of her. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? HORRIBLE, least desirable environment ever. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Try to guess how your supervisor will treat you on any given hour. Between rare praise, sarcasm, silent treatments, being yelled at…… it was absolutely awful. Eggshells everyday.

Toxic Work Environment
Engineer (Current Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - March 22, 2023
If you are looking for an unsafe, toxic work environment this is the place for you! To top it off, there is no advancement. None. Management is bullying and incompetent. Typical work day includes trying to keep the proverbial wheels from falling off as they seem to be making it up as they go. There are talented people who work there but they are undercut by terrible leaders who are selfish, arrogant and insecure all at the same time. The hardest part of the job is knowing that no matter how good you are you will NEVER be promoted. The most enjoyable part of the job is the people who you spend your days with. Truly good people. Another benefit of the job is the flexibility. The flexibility will unfortunately be going out the window as well. There are no bad teams, just bad leaders. Unfortunately this place has no shortage of bad leaders.
Pros
Coworkers and flexibility
Cons
Leadership, poor safety standards, ethics

Great people and easy job, horrible pay
Operator (Current Employee) - Easton, PA - March 9, 2023
Love the job, supervisors, engeneers and coworkers, but we can barely make it with the pay and they don’t wanna increase it while the company makes billions. You get responsibilities and not an increase on pay. HR is almost never on site. Directors are not pro employees.
Pros
Easy job
Cons
Pay and benefits
