Great Mission but Not the Best Place to Work
Academic Advisor (Former Employee) – San Francisco Bay Area, CA – January 10, 2016
The mission, students and people are great. The students you work with will make your days worthwhile.
The massive turnover (40% last year, 25% this year) makes it a difficult place to work. Institutional knowledge gets lost when people leave, and it does not feel like a stable environment.
Everyone has a 'director' title, which means no one is a director. It is a place where you can go from a coordinator in you previous position to a director title. There is no career path for employees. If you are in the inner circle, you have a different experience, as there are many known favorites.
The culture can be competitive, combative and petty. Many people leave because their managers do not understand what they do.
If you plan to have children, you will be shocked to find out that there is no paid maternity leave.
Good people, Generous vacation
