Very hardwork, but good learning opportunity
Intern (Former Employee) - Staten Island, NY - January 16, 2019
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedIt was tough work, but it was a good opportunity to learn how to paint a house. The manager was not strict. Although, I had some safety concerns when painting the walls while on the ladder.
Pros
Good opportunity to learn painting a house
Cons
Short breaks

Very challenging internship that rewards you if you work hard. If you can’t handle a challenge this isn’t for you
Intern (Former Employee) - Chicago, IL - January 21, 2022
I had an awesome experience as an intern, but it was also the most challenging thing I had ever done. This internship teaches you hard work and perseverance, and the reward is definitely worth it if you’re up for the challenge. I made 20k, got a free trip to Cancun, and made friends that I’ll have for the rest of my life. The clients you get to work with are also very cool, I learned a lot just from doing estimates with people in professions I didn’t know much about.
Pros
Great people, Supportive management, Competitive environment, Cancun
Cons
Hard work, Have to be willing to make sacrifices to have a successful business

Take advantage of college kids
Intern (Former Employee) - Delafield, WI - March 31, 2021
You will not be paid anything until the end of the summer. Have fun paying for that painter, your gas, etc., with literally no income. If you are wealthy kid who has been handed the keys to success and don't need to have a job while in college and are okay with mooching off of family and friends you have a chance to be successful with this job. You will not be happy. If you are regular person that has a job while in college and has bills to pay, do not do this job! Look at the company website, how many companies need to put up a page explaining what a pyramid scheme? They do this because they want to get you hooked in. Do not consider this job, it is a pyramid scheme.
Pros
None
Cons
Take advantage of you

Challenging Student Internship
Intern (Former Employee) - Madison, WI - October 7, 2020
I worked as an Intern/Branch manager this past summer and learned a ton about how to run a business. I created a marketing strategy, closed deals, hired 3 crews of painters, and made over $40,000 profit. Seriously! I made $40,000 in a summer at an internship and I liked my experience. It was incredibly tough, I worked long hours (my own decision), and closed a ton of deals with over 35 clients. I managed a team of 6 people and ran a $160,000 branch. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for a challenge. If you're looking for an easy summer job, don't do this. You'll waste everyone's time, including your own. If you're up for a highly rewarding challenge I would recommend you be an intern with College Works Painting.
Pros
Money, Money, Money, Skills
Cons
Tough job

Internship Painting
Internship Program (Former Employee) - Kearney, NE - May 14, 2020
If you already have a good income and can spend all of your time and effort here then you are golden and will be appreciated. If your living pay check to pay check DO NOT do it. You are on your own when it comes to making an income and a $18,000 job will not save you it will only waste your time.

Long and Trying
Intern (Former Employee) - Naperville, IL - January 25, 2020
The amount of experience I received all in one internship was impressive. However, the management is very hard to work with and the lack of income to the amount of work that is required is less than adequate.

Very Challenging Internship but Absolutely Worth It
College Works Painting is not for everyone. It was one of the hardest internships I could've taken freshman year summer at 18, but was the best experience possible. I learned so much about myself and strengths and weaknesses. I learned so much to do with marketing, sales, client complaints, managing workers, etc. I am a business major and I learned so much valuable information in the field.
This internship requires motivation and self-discipline. You have the opportunity to set yourself up for incredible success in the future, opportunity to make more money than you thought you would be able to make as a full time college student, and go on vacations that you will remember forever.
The hardest summer of my life, was the best summer of my life. I thank College Works for the opportunity that was given to me.
Pros
Paid Trips to Cancun, Canada, various American Cities; Profit Checks are huge; Learn so much about yourself, Learn so much about yourself professionally, Set yourself a part from the rest
Cons
have to have self discipline, Time management is tough sometimes

Extremely tough
internship (Former Employee) - Wichita, KS - September 5, 2018
College works painting IS NOT an internship for lazy people. In order to be successful in this business you MUST be driven and have an undying taste for success. Success is based completely on how much you put in. Nonetheless this job is extremely tasking and draining, but provides an outstanding opportunity and many great skills.
Pros
Lots of learning
Cons
extremely stressful

If you’re willing to kill yourself with work, it’s worth it.
Intern (Current Employee) - Westchester, NY - June 23, 2018
You start with a lot of driving (if you don’t have a car, don’t even attempt it) to training seminars and other miscellaneous events. You then start to plan out routes to get leads for “your buisness”. You call sed leads to schedule times and dates to do estimates, where you go over company information with clients, figure out the price of the job, and attempt to close that day. When the summer rolls around, if you’re a “traditional model”, you will also be responsible for hiring painters, keeping track of budgets, and managing jobsites. Throughout the summer you’re still responsible for doing plenty of sales, so if you’re extremely dedicated to working 50+ hours a week and solely getting paid off of commission, this job could be for you.
Pros
If you’re a beast at sales, very solid commission
Cons
Lots and lots of hours

Not Great
Internship (Former Employee) - Storrs, CT - December 12, 2017
Door to door marketing it was not what I expected. It offered a lot of pros but came up short. You mostly door to door market. The actual selling to homeowners is pretty good experience but tis a dime a dozen and to worth the time.
Pros
some good experience
Cons
Not great for business world

Scam
Management and Leadership Internship (Former Employee) - Sacramento, CA - December 11, 2017
Don't do this internship. I did it all the way through. It was good experience at the time, but if I could go back and do it again, I would find another opportunity.

Not fun
Internship (Former Employee) - Northwest, OH - October 23, 2017
The pay was terrible for the long days you put in and it was not anything like we were promised. The work was very tedious and if not done perfectly you were in trouble.

Rewarding yet Challenging
Intern (Current Employee) - New Jersey - September 8, 2017
College Works Painting is one of the most difficult internship programs in the country. However, its one of the most rewarding internships I have ever been a part of. I basically learned the ins and outs of running a business from; sales, marketing, hiring employees, communicating with clients.
The hardest part of the job is understanding the results are based on how good you are at the job.
Pros
Networking, skill development and free traveling
Cons
competitive

Challenging but amazing experience
Intern (Former Employee) - New Jersey - September 8, 2017
College Works is one of the most challenging internship programs in the country. I chose to do for the real life entrepreneurship experience. I basically learned the basics of business; sales, management, marketing, communication, problem solving. The best part of the program is the network and mentorship, I made great friends and started a business with one of them. The hardest part of the job is knowing that my success is based on how hard I work.
Pros
Traveling, Payroll events, Mentorship, Networking
Cons
success level is based on your will to succeed

Hands on learning experience
Intern (Current Employee) - San Jose, CA - March 13, 2017
I would constantly do door to door marketing and make calls to the leads that I received from marketing. I would attend call conferences. I would set up interviews and estimates.
Pros
Hands on training
Cons
Entry level learning, not for a senior in college. Management is disorganized.

Do not work here
Intern (Former Employee) - West Chester, PA - December 7, 2016
This company is built to use and abuse their interns. They work them to the bone trying to get every penny possible out of them. If you want to work here, know that it's going to be long and grueling.

Great opportunity for college students interested in business
Intern (Former Employee) - Scottsdale, AZ - May 5, 2014
College Works Painting was one of the best decisions I made in my collegiate career! At first I wasn't sure about how I was going to make time to grow my business due to the number of hours I was regularly in class, the 40+ hours a week I worked at my job, and also the amount of time it regularly took me to study to keep my grades where I wanted them. I explained this in my second meeting with my soon-to-be manager and after hearing about the time management train I would receive and that I would only need to put in 10-15 hours during the school week I was excited to get everything started. The training was long and intense but my manager was extremely helpful every step of the way and seeing how he had been in my shoes just one year prior, he knew exactly what I was going through and was ready to help. For anyone that has the work hard, play hard attitude and wants first hand experience in running a business without having to put up a single dollar of your own money to get started, this is the opportunity for you.
Of course, there will always be people who had different experiences and the people that gave up before really even starting. But for those who believe they possess a strong work ethic and the willingness to put in the work to win, I couldn't recommend spending one college summer of your time any other way.
Pros
1st hand business experience; led by peers, group trips for top performers
Cons
Have to balance school with work, need access to a vehicle, unpaid until the summer when production starts

Intense, crazy internship
Entrepreneurial Intern (Former Employee) - Boulder, CO - April 3, 2014
Working all the time, but awesome opportunities for profits and growth within the company. Only a few people succeed at this internship, and I was one of them. I was the top intern in my state, and top 10 nationwide. But it meant working a ton during spring and summer.
Pros
Experience in all aspects of running a business
Cons
Tons of work, painting sucks

Learn how to run your own business, while building relationships
Intern (Current Employee) - Chapel Hill, NC - December 8, 2013
I really enjoyed my experience with College Works. It starts in the spring and then goes into the summer. During the spring you learn more about marketing and sales. Then during the summer you actually learn how to manage the business, while continuing your growth in sales. Even though you're running your own business (which is pretty independent), you're constantly building relationships.
The most challenging part about this internship was time management and comfort zone. Being a sophomore in college, I've never ran my own business before and I found it very uncomfortable. But at the end, I knew I wanted to learn the skills College Works had to offer and my district manager helped me see it through. This is what challenged me to be a better manager and an overall better communicator. I also had weekly meetings with my district manager to discuss my business but also time management. This was key for me just because I not only wanted to be successful in the internship, but also in my academics and extracurriculars.
The most enjoyable part of the job was the relationships I built with my team. Getting to know other people that had the same personality as me was really cool! We also had events throughout the summer that involved doing something fun. So not only did we get to discuss ways of how to improve our business, but also get to have fun together. Lastly, the trip at the end of the year to Cancun was awesome. It was definitely the most fun I've ever had in a trip or on the weekend.
Pros
Cancun trip, fun payroll events, go big events, building relationships, pay
Cons
time consuming, phone calls
