Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Remote - October 20, 2022
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe pay could be better. The leads are decent but you spend so much time convincing someone to buy an overpriced product… it gets draining. The PTO is really nice but the health insurance is trash. If you are just starting out in the Life Insurance field it’s a decent starting job but definitely not long term

This company is a joke! More times than not I feel like I am being pranked by them and their business practices!
Remote Sales Agent (Current Employee) - remote - August 30, 2023
Incompetent supervisors. Childish and vindictive, not at all professional! Poor communicators with what seems like an 8th grade education level at best. Often misspells words and makes it very difficult to understand what they are trying to communicate. Over-priced insurance. Unrealistic expectations to earn incentives. Low hourly pay for the stress of the day to day duties. Customers feel as though they are being scammed or deceived through advertisements.
Pros
remote/PTO being approved easily
Cons
SO MANY! Unfair and unreasonable business practices.

Telesales Agent
Telesales Agent (Former Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - February 14, 2023
This position literally consist of investing 9 hours of your time dialing attempting to insurance only to ppl 40-85. Extremely draining to say the least. If you don't mind trading hours for dollars then I suppose it may be a fit. DO NOT expect to receive a penny of bonus. The goals are too unrealistic to make the measly $1000 incentive. Its very challenging to make goal unless you work 60+ hours a week which even then isn't worth it because of taxes. The target goal is also increasingly challenging because, most customers push their start date to activate the policy to the following month , so that sale won't count to make the goal for the current month you're in. They say you must have lots of applications in the pipeline, BUT even then, it's difficult because you have to consider the policy holders who NEVER mail in the signed policy with the first premium to activate the coverage, Even overtime doesn't compensate for the time and energy you must compromise for.
Pros
Work from home, I guess...
Cons
Hard to make commission, Deceptive sales tactics to seniors, Low wages

Not what they used to be
Sales (Former Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - October 14, 2022
The company has gone down in size and is not really helping Seniors. The policy premiums are high and the coverage is very low. It's almost not worth the money.
Pros
Not many
Cons
Charging excessive premiums for small policies

After 3 good years at colonial Penn I was assigned to a petty tyrant. She was petty, a disaster too work for. I wasn't the only one with complaints.
Life Insurance Sales Agent (Former Employee) - Phila - August 27, 2022
Again my issue was my immediate supervisor after having two good supervisors. No upper manager cared. If management changed and took responsibility I would be glad to discuss it with them. This manager was a nightmare.

Okay job
Telesales Representative (Current Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - August 19, 2022
Management sucks pay is not that great and you should get commission but instead you get less than 10% of what you bring in for the company. Wouldn’t stay long maybe a jump starter if you wanted to become a life insurance agent

They are focused on just money
Life Insurance Agent (Current Employee) - Remote - June 21, 2022
A company that doesnt even want you to sale the unit that they advertise ,angry leads that feel misled by our commercial, not to mention no freedom to go to other products you feel would work for the customer which they dont even know we have because we arent allowed to bring it up. Lastly during really slow months that they know are coming ,goals stay at the same amount
Pros
Good pay and pto
Cons
Very very verr stressful calls and requirements

Pay was decent
Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Remote - April 21, 2022
Money was decent, but leads could be very rude when calling. Process could be improved if the answering service would do their jobs correctly. Bonuses were starting to be based on not just sales but quality.
Pros
Management was great to work with you
Cons
Pay was different depending on location of where you lived.

Stressful
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - July 1, 2021
Working for this company was very stress inducing. You are just a number to them. You feel like a prisoner at your desk. Don't work here people, just run away now.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Sales expected in customer service, no work life balance

Great for someone just starting out!
Outbound Sales Representative (Former Employee) - Remote - June 12, 2021
The outbound sales position is perfect for some who has become recently licensed. A more experienced rep will be frustrated with the lack of knowledge and transparency. I had trouble finding out what the incentives were because nobody would share that with me. Not sure what the potential for income is since it seemed to be a secret.
Pros
Hourly rate for sales position
Cons
Goals were elusive

Nice people
Licensed Life Agent (Former Employee) - Remote - March 17, 2021
I worked for Colonial Penn for about three months in a call center environment from home. You are on an auto dialer calling people back that requested info and some may think they will get it by mail, but the leads are ok. They are called a lot until they answer and some people can get a little crabby when they first answer, but nothing bad and you can normally always at least get them to hear you out since they are the ones looking for quotes and you are the licensed agent. The pay is fair for the work. There is a waiting period to start making commission but the time frame really didn’t match up for me with what they told me when I was hired. Once you do start making commission, it is decent. The problem for me was that it was an unbelievably boring job for the outbound team. You literally repeat yourself over and over and over again.. all day long.. every day. You have to try to sell them on the spot because they really have no way of calling you back to talk to you personally. Their software is old and it takes you forever to try to go back and call someone back. You’re basically wasting precious time that you could have used to sell two other people just to call one person back. That was really annoying because now you feel that you aren’t giving your customer the service they deserve. You are really only selling one product which is the guaranteed acceptance and it is not in everyone’s best interest. I love sales and this industry, but I need to be passionate about what I am selling and not to mention feel good about how it’s going to affect/benefit my customer after I -
Pros
Managers are nice and encouraging, pay and insurance are decent and the PTO is good
Cons
Extremely boring and repetitive

Pay
Remote Insurance Telesales Agent (Former Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - December 17, 2019
Colonial Penn has the best leads in the business and sales process was easy.
I wish they had more of a commission element after a certain premium sales threshold was met, which would increase income substantially.
I would still be there if they added commission to the base pay, even if it were lower.

Call Center
Telesales Representative (Former Employee) - Carmel, IN - November 13, 2019
This is where insurance agents go to settle. You work for a company who calls the elderly procrastinatiors who need life insurance. They tell you that there is "no cold calling". Which is true. The people call in to the commercial and then get a 3rd party operator who takes their info and gives it to you. This is where the customer believes the process stops for them. They think they'll be sent information in the mail and they won't be getting a call from you, the agent. So when you call them back, they're confused an angry. Now you try to sell them insurance. For some reason they think they can get 10k worth of insurance for 9.95.... Then you tell them that's not the case...... Rinse and repeat all day. You're expected to make certain amounts of money in the company's hand every month. If you can't do that every month, you'll either be put on a plan to get you to that selling level or you'll be let go. Being talked down to on a daily basis is hard. If you can do that, then this is for you. I couldn't, I know it's not for me.

Interesting
tele sales agent (Former Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - January 28, 2019
This is a job for those who are truly interested in sales jobs only, its all about how many people you can convince to buy their insurance, which isn't that great of an product especially for the elders. This really isn't a job for people who have little ones or taking care of elderly people in your family because it sucks all your time especially if you want to make goal to receive an incentive. Their incentives are kind of a ripe off because your not really even getting a 10% of what you made the company. Their system is design to have a fast turn over. Great company to start your sales career if your looking to do sales.
Pros
great people to work with, interesting customers, free lunches and parties and benefits
Cons
work environment, product, high turn over
