The most useful review selected by IndeedRole was a good stepping stone. Location downtown is good. Beautiful views from the office. Managers are mixed and if you are aligned with the right people you will do well.

Great place to work
Human Resources Administrator (Former Employee) - New York, NY - April 8, 2021
I worked in HR years ago and they are still my favorite employer. They gave you the same generous benefits they give in Germany. As long as you are a great worker, they are open to advancing your education and upward mobility. Management has an open door policy for the most part.

short term project
Economic Sanctions/Compliance Analyst (Former Employee) - New York, NY - January 28, 2020
short term consulting gig. Supposed to be 30 days but turned into 3 months. Work was straightforward and I came in at a time of major transition. No complaints on my end.

Stay away
Risk Manager (Former Employee) - New York, NY - August 4, 2019
The Management is inexperienced, arrogant and ignorant, this creates for an extremely toxic environment. The place is a revolving door. Employees work for three months and then they leave. They have a going away party every month for someone.
Do yourself a favor and please look somewhere else, this place is not worth it and you will not be appreciated for your efforts and work.

Much work still to be done
Assistant Vice President (Former Employee) - New York, NY - June 11, 2019
The most enjoyable part of the job was the teams I interacted with internally within Commerzbank AG. The drive to make the bank better required all hands on deck.

Worked with a good team.
Relationship Manager (Former Employee) - xxx - February 2, 2019
A typical day is fast paced, however there is good support from the cross functional teams to deliver value to clients. Team work is paramount in arriving at decisions for the business. Good management team and work culture.
Enjoyed the work experience, the team and the work life balance.

Poor Culture
Vice President (Former Employee) - New York, NY - December 13, 2018
Management has no clear strategy and are not realistic with their expectations given the bank's lack of product platforms. Overall, the culture was horrible with many people speaking Spanish for work related conversations even though some people did not understand the language.

Antiquated company struggling to survive
Compliance Manager (Current Employee) - New York, NY - May 25, 2018
Pros:
Great work-life balance
Cons:
Antiquated model. No compensation (as in you'll NEVER receive merit increments or substantial bonuses), no employee retention. High turnover rates. Poor management. Poor work culture. Germans get promoted to high ranking roles. No women in leadership roles. No growth.
As management has made it clear on multiple occasions, there will be no merit increments offered. Employees should come in at least 40% higher than the market rate. Employees will not be retained irrespective of the knowledge they carry with them. Super high turnover rates. No growth or reward opportunities.

Commerzbank
Credit Officer, Retail/Consumer Products (Current Employee) - New York, NY - May 21, 2018
The climate is very political, given that the bank is partially owned by the government. Work life balance is pretty good and benefits are definitely above average. However, variable compensation are probably below average.

Cons
unhealthy culture

Good work life balance with a caveat
GRM - MR Vice President (Current Employee) - New York, NY - February 17, 2018
The bank offers a healthy work life balance and good benefits. However, it can be limiting in terms of career development as it is a small presence in New York.

awful place to work. although the benefits are probably the best in the industry, the management of this firm is horrendous. turnover is approximately 70% consistently. People do a year and leave, if not less if awarded the opportunity somewhere else. move on.
