Commonwealth Charter Academy Teacher Review

Productive and great team atmosphere

CCA is a growing school but be very careful as they grow what do they forget? The special education and general ed caseloads are so high but the school will not increase staff as they leave.

Pros

Health insurance, team atmosphere with team

Cons

Micro managed every step, no voice, top down management, non elected school board

Great place to work

CCA is a great place to work! You are able to work from home most of the time and have a reasonable work load. I have a great work-life balance. Co-workers are very helpful.

It’s going downhill

It used to be a great place to work, but it is going downhill quickly. It seems like every student is becoming a number and we’ve heard “it’s not in our budget” more times than we can count even for necessities like more reading or math specialists. They promise lower class sizes each year and then proceed fill the classes to the maximum number. The majority of decisions for the school are made by two individuals who lack basic qualifications and experience in education. The daily duties for teachers outweigh the time that is allotted. I think they are going to have a difficult time keeping staff going into next school year if things don’t change.

Terrible Employer

If you live teaching and learning children K-12, you will hate CCA. They have an agenda to promote their tech programs and tools, not educate. Management has no credentials and a poor vision for the school. They will utilize your credentials to legitimize their vision, and make all of the money while they nickel and dime your salary. Prepare to be micromanaged and undervalued if you join this organization. Their charter expired in 2015, and has refused to be renewed by the Department of Education. You’ve been warned!

Pros

None

Cons

Everything.
