Horrible Place
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  SE, Washington, DCMay 15, 2017
It's a mental health facility. No one really cares about the clients except for the over worked case managers. They care more about billable hours to Medicare. There is no training, no support. They are quick to get rid of you if you complain about any issue. And the CEO needs to retire, she is not a warm person.
Pros
Lovable clients
Cons
Management sucks

Community Support Specialist (Former Employee) –  Washington, DC 20003April 25, 2017
This was my introduction to community mental health treatment and guidance. I loved the work and only wished that the pay was higher. There were some patients that were difficult, but it was a fun job.

One Year and Counting
Rehabilitation Specialist (Current Employee) –  Washington DCApril 24, 2017
I have been at Community Connections for a year and have had three different supervisors due to poor treatment of management and closing departments.

Coworkers are amazing, but higher up the chain has no respect for people on the ground and have been out of the hands on work for too long.

Expect to work 9-12 hour days for minimum pay and with your only raise coming from 2 years as an employee (1,000) or to advance your education.

I would suggest looking else where, the turnover in this agency is outrageous.
Pros
Great supervisors and supervision.
Cons
low pay, high turnover, and poor upper management

fun place to work
Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCApril 10, 2017
Great place to work. Allows you to work independently which is a plus. The pay is ridiculously low for the work you do and the neighborhood. Parking is also terrible. You can apply to jobs within.

Hated every moment of working here
Community Support Specialist (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCMarch 13, 2017
This place has a high turn over rate. You are nothing more than a cab driver for the consumers here. Management is horrible and offers little to no support. Just don't do it! This place is always hiring because no one stays. I'll save the long boring rant and just tell you to stay away!
Pros
Helping the consumers and seeing them progress
Cons
Pay, management, Management!!!

Great Opportunity for experience, Very Stressful Job
Clinical Case Manager (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCJanuary 2, 2017
This job can be quite difficult with no support. There have been constant changes within the agency making it difficult to love working here. It is a great agency to experience with vast opportunities of networking, however it can be difficult to balance work and personal life as a lot of work will be taken home without pay.

Flexible

Rehabilitation Specialist (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCDecember 1, 2016
This has been the most challenging yet rewarding job I have ever done. Not for the feint of heart. You will meet some of the best people you have ever worked with, and make lasting friendships on your team. The management does not do enough to support its people. Its your friendships that get you through the day. The clients are overwhelming if you let them get to you. And the expectations for paperwork are ridiculous.
Pros
great experience; good teams
Cons
no breaks, lots of paperwork, more then 40hr a week job

cc is like a family, lots of great people and lots of support. People are invested in making the world a better place by helping individuals who struggle with poverty, mental illness and addiction.

Every Day is a Different Day when you're working in Mental Health
Retention Specialist ACT Team (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCFebruary 15, 2016
This job offered a daily opportunity to help those who are unable to completely help themselves. I worked with homeless individuals, individuals who were committed to hospitals including St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Also visited clients who were incarcerated in local Jails and advocated for individuals in MD, DC, and VA Courts.

Could have been better
Residential Counselor (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCAugust 22, 2015
Every day at work was a bless day working with consumers on a daily basic. Helping them to learn how to love life on life terms. I'm very independent and reliable. Essential Worker. A great team player. I believe the most hardest part on the Job is when there is no supplies to meet your need for you as well for the clients. However this most enjoyable part of my Job is to see clients leave the facility with all there needs met.

Cool employees but Awful Job
Act Team Case Worker (Former Employee) –  Washington DCMay 22, 2015
A typical day of a Act team case manager consist of picking up clients taking them to their doctor appointments, grocery shopping, to and from COmmunity Connections to see the psychiatrist, etc. You have to transport sometime dirty and bed bug infested clients places. So many of our clients had bedbugs this year and there was little/ no protection from the company for staff that transported these bedbugs home with them. Meaning you would have to pay out of pocket to get rid of bedbug infestation in your home.
As a casemanager you are pushed to drive clients around Instead of encouraging clients to meet you at their appointments or teach the clients how to utilize public transportation to get around. This is doing a disservice to the client because they rely on the case mangers to get everywhere and do not have the skills or want to get around on their own, thus using case managers as a taxi service to get everywhere! Overall if you are passionate about genuinely helping individuals this is not the job for you!! You will be highly disappointed as you transport people around instead of teaching them to get around for productivity purposes.
Pros
Supervision for licensure, some fun team events throughout the year, often they have food in the office but you will miss out because you will be in the field
Cons
Pay Sucks, Pay raise for receiving graduate degree is a Joke, no room for advancement, huge Descrepancy in pay rate between coworkers and no pay grid to justify the differences

Best Clinical Experience
Clinical Case Manager (Former Employee) –  Washington, D.CJanuary 23, 2015
Excellent management, training, and clinical experience. Difficult population with average compensation. Felt unsafe at times and the job security was a concern because of the Medicaid billing. However, it was what you made it. If you wanted to be more clinical, you could, or if you just wanted to spend time with clients and teach them how to do basic skills, you could do that also. A lot of paperwork on the off work hours. Really enjoyed getting to know the clients and Washington, D.C. but very stressful.
Pros
Excellant management and clinical work
Cons
stressful, demanding, a lot of work hours
