Elders eat their young. Management cares more about travelers than staff. Often overworked with missing aides or not scheduled aides. Revision of assignments to remove continuity of care.

Poor Management
PFS Employee (Current Employee) –  Munster, INOctober 19, 2018
Management in the business office is horrible. They are micro-managers. They speak down to you. They pick on things all the time. They control your PTO. They make you keep 40 hours of PTO in your bank all the time. If you don't then you are not allowed anytime off. This should be illegal. The Director doesn't care about anyone, she has to be in control at all times even the small things. She is always looking to find something bad about you. The management that has been there a long time (position Manager & Director) dress horrible but they made it against the dress policy to wear legging and boots or boots over your pants, yet they dress horrible. Business office employees are the only ones in the health care system with the dress code & PTO rules. Warning no one likes it there but they are the biggest health group in NWI.

RN Staff Nurse (Former Employee) –  Munster, INAugust 4, 2018
Unless you’re related to someone there it’s not safe. Nurses and managers are worthless all they care about is themselves and what is going on in there inner circle

Marketing Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Hobart, INJuly 30, 2018
I learned a great deal while at St.Marys. I lead many meetings and was encouraged to be a leader in the community as well. The upper management was always happy to help.

Horrible place to work if you are expecting descent compensation. Management and supervisors are basically place holders as they have no control over anything worth while.

Pharmacists and pharmacy techs should avoid this place at all costs
Pharmacist (Former Employee) –  PharmacyMarch 2, 2018
There is so much turnover for both pharmacists and techs at Community. The management here is absolutely terrible and creates a very hostile environment in an already stressful pharmacy. HR obviously sees all of this turnover and hears all the complaints from staff, but nothing ever gets better. If you are desperate for money then this could be a temporary position, but it will be a miserable couple of months until you find your next job (It's much worse than I'm letting on so hopefully you won't have to work here temporarily either.). Good luck!
Pros
With all this turnover you'll get to meet a lot of new people
Cons
With all of this turnover you won't know those people for very long. Management is a huge negative

Office Supervisor
Medical Assistant (Former Employee) –  Hobart, INFebruary 26, 2018
Incompetant Office Manager, very petty work environment, everyone stabs each other in the back and throws each ither under the boss, negative work environment if you're not into clicks or from the outside.

Work through breaks, mangement isn't consistent with office policy and treatment of others.

Productive
Regional Billing Specialist (Former Employee) –  Houston, TXJanuary 28, 2018
A typical work day included meeting daily quotas, must be able to work independently but have access to management if needed. Must be able to communicate effectively with peers, customers, management, and administrators.

The work environment is very relaxed and friendly.

Hardest part of the job is being able to resolve customer related issues due to non-payments by insurance providers.

The most enjoyable part of the job was working with friendly people and people who where willing to help and assist others as needed.
Pros
flexible working hours

Bullying culture is rampant and encouraged
RN (Former Employee) –  Hobart, INDecember 19, 2017
While initially sad to leave here, now that I am away I realize how bad it truly is. Harrassment, emotional abuse and bullying run rampant and are even encouraged. It seems like those that partake the most in the gossip and misery are the ones that advance or are shown appreciation. I'm working in a much more positive and supportive atmosphere now - thank goodnesz.

There is no training and you are thrown into a sink or swim atmosphere. You learn your job by your mistakes. Not a good place to ask your supervisor for assistance.

Extremely difficult to communicate with management. They ignore issues and don't want to improve the department or satisfaction of current employees. HR ignores how much their employees are mistreated so it will continue forever.

Great care for the patient's, not so great for the workers
Medical Assistant (Former Employee) –  Davenport, IAAugust 29, 2017
Management team really cared about getting the numbers that were needed to pass and continue to receive Federal Funding. There was not much care or concern about the workers being stressed or overwhelmed.

Office Manager (Current Employee) –  Munster, INAugust 4, 2017
Very stressful. Expect utmost output with little upper management input. Do not find time to train but find time to reprimand when what was learned on own was not done properly. Preach patient comes first but if you do work that was assigned to another department watch out for the toes you just stepped on. OUCH

Job transfers

Hostile work environment
Server (Former Employee) –  Hobart, INJuly 13, 2017
The lazy get rewarded and the hard workers suffer! Many amazing people work there, but the lazy out number the hard workers which makes it hard to work in that environment if you are a go getter! Upper management has a relaxed approach, leaving problems to never get fixed and building up and affecting the crew, patients and their family. Union workers are protected and can do what they please, smoke in the parking lot, take free food, resulting in people not getting their food in rooms or in the cafeteria. Same level employees barking orders in front of customers and no where to complain. Management not consistent with punishment and rules are not enforced. If the management enforces the rules, HR over rules them. Huge amount of calls off in the service departments daily, (housekeeping, food service, etc). If you don't want to work, this is the place to go, If you do, then stay away because you will be doing the work for two or three.
Pros
Free flu shot
Cons
No punishment for the rule breakers, cult like upper management

Great place to work minus drama
Cardiovascular Technologist (Current Employee) –  Hobart, INJune 28, 2017
This was a great place to work minus department drama! People are manipulative and allowed to do as they please. If you don't share the same views, you soon become the outcast. Not all employees are expected to live by mission statement of hospital, and if you don't like it, you might as well leave, because management does not want to hear it. Overall I enjoy working for hospital when not dealing with drama.

Drama

Great place to work
Nurse Manager (Current Employee) –  East Chicago, INJune 9, 2017
I currently manage 3 IMCU units. I have learned a tremendous amount managing over 100 employees. My employees would describe me as "fair." The workplace culture I strive for is that of productivity and quality patient care. I set my expectations high and strive to exceed them. The hardest part of my job is when you consistently follow the policies and procedures uniformly across the board, which I consistently do, its hard when the you really want to go easy on a high performer but can't. This is why my employees would describe me as fair. It is rewarding when you are running a large unit and you see your patient satisfactions scores in the 90th percentiles in all domains!
Pros
flexible
Cons
Few senior staff positions available
