Great Tech - Poor Leadership
Real Estate Agent (Former Employee) - Austin, TX - August 25, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe technology at Compass is cutting edge but the leadership took a massive shift and was lacking. Nobody will have your back. Aside from that, Compass is a very expensive broker to work for - the fees add up quick.

Dead end job for staff
Marketing Advisor (Current Employee) - Los Angeles, CA - February 21, 2023
They basically want to hire someone to do marketing in a real estate office for the agents that sit in that office, and you basically just do their busywork on Canva & never get a raise or promotion. People are great, but it's a mess
Pros
Unlimited PTO, Unlimited Sick Days
Cons
No WFH, No raises

Compass treats their employees terribly compared to their Agents
Office Administrator/Manager (Former Employee) - Laguna Beach, CA - February 3, 2023
From the day I received my offer letter I had a bad feeling about this company. Throughout the 6 weeks interview process, I was told I would be working out of office A which was 10mi from my home. Upon receiving my letter they changed the office location to office B which was over double the distance, 3x the commute time ( due to traffic) and if I didn't want to add time/distance to my commute it was $14/day in tolls - which the company did not cover. I was told they hired someone else for the office I was told I was being hired for and the only compensation I received was a minuscule pay bump which did not even cover the additional gas or tolls to get to the location. I had multiple other issues that arose during my time there including issues with my direct manager after my personal health issues, an utter lack of learning and growth opportunities, and more. I've remained friends with several people from different departments who have all left for the same reasons I did - management was highly toxic towards employees, the company severely underpaid employees in every position, and promotions were given based on time spent with the company rather than on skill or merit. This company's people & culture department also ignored my emails for months, giving me the run-around, and to this day never paid me out for a week of my unlimited sick time when I was recovering from a medical issue. This company puts the agents far ahead of their employees and you can sense it immediately. If you are an agent, however, they will treat you like royalty.
Pros
Beautiful offices, usually by the coast, downtown areas, etc.
Cons
Management, Lack of merit based promotions, underpaid, over worked (depending on the position), lack of growth/opportunities

Great Company
Real Estate Broker (Former Employee) - Chicago, IL - June 23, 2022
Will continue to grow and increase market share. Growing pains come with exponential growth. They encourage collaboration and teamwork. Fast paced growth can overwhelm some.

Very progressive
Real Estate Agent (Current Employee) - Doylestown, PA - June 20, 2022
Great company to work for - from the top down. Great managers as well. The entire staff is concentrated on working for the agents to allow agents to focus on what is important - selling real estate

Becoming Jaded
Office Administrator (Current Employee) - Dallas, TX - December 7, 2021
The company wide goal(s) are honorable and it is clear the agents are highly valued. The actual work is simple with tasks like: Refilling X Y and Z items or routing calls and entering payment info into a database. The office events are always over the top and thrilling, however you "must" attend each of them or be ostracized despite them telling you it's understandable if you cannot go. I love the strong personalities and creative liberties they give you during event planning/prep which makes you feel very valuable. I'm not at all a fan of the poor or passive aggressive internal communication especially in an industry where communication is key. A lot of huge egos and vanity when there shouldn't be when we're a team.
Pros
Room for promotion, Fun parties, innovative, inclusive towards agents, great dress code, "instant" benefits, great IT support, fancy Macbooks, snacks, Big name agents
Cons
Not allowed to discuss performance feedback, not very racially diverse, micromanagement, egos

Compass real estate is a terrific real estate brokage
Realtor (Former Employee) - Newport Beach, CA - March 31, 2021
Compass has great technology tools, great people for your assistance, and awesome environment for you to work as a real estate agent. However, the Emission and Error insurance each agent has to pay is higher than other brokage.
Pros
Awesome environment and plentiful resources for real estate agent.
Cons
Hign ENO insurance

A lot of hype - but overall positive when you adjust your expectations
Agent (Former Employee) - Westchester County, NY - February 18, 2021
A lot of hype and not a great deal of industry knowledge. Calling itself a tech company because it set about reinventing the wheel, recreating tools in glitchy form that existed elsewhere. Wrapping them in sleek Adobe based graphics elevates form over function. So called “AI” lens are just before and after photos with a slider. Not a reinvention of space based on renovation. All the other tools are much the same. But overall nice, if somewhat hapless, folks who don’t understand what is already out there.
Pros
Snacks
Cons
Lack of local knowledge and real estate industry.

Real Estate Agent (Current Employee) - California - December 29, 2020
Everyone who works here is also working with those who you now call family. Each office allows for different team members to come in with open arms. Real Estate can be challenging but the companies environment makes it worth it.

This company is going down fast. Read the fine orint folks. This company only cares about there bottom line
Agent (Former Employee) - Nashville, TN - September 19, 2020
I have been with great companies and compass was a huge disappointment they end up taking more than they agree to take from your check. They give you money foe marketing and they tKe it back. This is the biggest joke! They look good on internet. No social interaction. Horrible experience .
Pros
Look good online
Cons
They are a quick loss to the real estate field!

Superior culture
Senior Recruiter (Former Employee) - Denver, CO - March 23, 2020
Truly the most amazing culture I've ever been a part of. Everyone was encouraged to be their authentic selves. The technology is incredible and they are flipping one of the oldest industries upside down, it's incredible!

Fantastic Place to work but not as Front Desk
Office Administrator (Former Employee) - Beverly Hills, CA - March 18, 2020
Great teams and great people passionate about their work and the good that they do in real estate. Agent Teams are great, IT team is the best around. If entering into a Marketing, Development, Account Transaction processing position, highly recommend as the right career step. They will work you to the bone but you will learn.
Front Desk / Receptionist was a great position. Definitely required the ability to be a self-starter, exceptional attention to detail and patience. Great role to develop your resume. You will learn how to do monthly expenses, rent out event spaces and gain numerous abilities transferable to an executive assistant position elsewhere.
The role eventually became a position where your every move was micromanaged by people who never performed your job but assumed they had the expertise to do so. If you tried to ask why things were functioning a specific way or attempted to follow up, there was the possibility you would receive a condescending response in turn from a supervisor.
Not worth it for this specific role in the end but again if looking into other departments at Compass Real Estate, you are bound to thrive, work hard and enjoy your work experience.
