No progression. Poor management. Not enough training for dealing with erratic clients. Divide between Akron and Cleveland clients and employees. Just would not recommend

Direct Support Professional (Current Employee) –  Valley View, OHJanuary 22, 2019
The clients within the company really make it a great place to work. I enjoy working with them and knowing I’m doing something to help them. The company provides all the training you need, which is nice. Overtime is an option and houses all over the county.
Pros
The clients

Have to have a car

Direct Support Professional (Former Employee) –  Valleyview, OHNovember 16, 2018
Overall good job that's easy to pick up but causes you to drive long distances to make it to the houses which causes wear and tear on your vehicle it was a good job overall but just the workers weren't always punctual and friendly.
Pros
Some compensation to gas spent
Cons
Is only a portion of what you spend.

This is a flexible position for those who have very complex lives, for instance if you are enrolled in school, or have young children who need care at certain times.

Good company culture
Healthcare (Current Employee) –  Cleveland, OHOctober 1, 2018
Connections is overall a good company. Everyone has their opinion based off their experience but overall the company culture is positive, relaxed, and open door communication. They’re willing to work with you as long as you communicate with them. Not to mention good benefits. It’s a good experience for those with no experience looking to get into the healthcare field as well as people who have experience and looking to further their career. The clients are amazing and so full of life. I would def recommend to others

Low Pay, Bad Management
Direct Support Professional (Former Employee) –  8001 Sweet Vally RoadMay 6, 2018
Lowest paid company $0.14 raise within the two years I've been here. Management doesn't want to approve days off yet take days off themselves. Been there for 2 years there's never called off . Put in a request to have one day off and got denied it's ridiculous.Co workers can be messy.
Pros
Clients, relaxed environment
Cons
Low pay, no raises, management

Rewarding work
Support Technician (Current Employee) –  Cleveland, OHFebruary 28, 2018
Working with clients with disabilities in their homes. It's very rewarding, and the company offers good compensation, annual bonuses, paid time off, benefits etc. Some co-workers take advantage of the limited supervision and are lazy then complain about how things are dirty or whatever. But it's their job to clean!!!
Pros
pay, insurance, 401k, rewarding work, fun environment
Cons
some lazy co-workers

Very Fast Paced, Understaffed
Direct Support Professional (Former Employee) –  Valley View, OHFebruary 5, 2018
Working with people with developmental disabilities has to live in your heart. You have to to deal with situations you never probably even dealt with and it all has to be done with love, so you can enjoy coming to work everyday, They all have to be treated equally and with respect as any other human being (if you can't do that, this is not the job for you) also you have to understand various cultures as well. It can be stressful at times when a client doesn't want to follow directions, or don't want to take their meds. I feel House Management needs to respond and or schedule employees in a more consistent timely manner to the clients home. If not you are to maintain yourself there by law till another employee arrives to take over the shift. I Loved seeing all their smiles as soon as I walked in the door. It is like a family, but the hardest part is not allowing them to adapt to you because of the professionalism you have to maintain, so that they don't suffer in case you have to change homes are are no longer employed there.

Needs More Employees To Relieve

Supportive Work Environment
Recruitment Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Valley View, OHSeptember 28, 2016
Its great to have a company that gives the option of two-way training, and a detailed orientation. The creative abilities that I am able to contribute to Connections in Ohio has given me a sense of belonging. I am able to maintain my personal life, while maintaining a 40hr work week! I did not have this flexible schedule with previous employers. I have seen individuals advance to other positions in the company within their 90 day period (this is a great aspect for retaining employees)! I have been here since January 2016 and I enjoy what I do on a daily basis!

Advancement, locations, training, knowledgeable staff
