It was a better company when it was Verizon, Bell Atlantic, NYNEX, or New England Telephone. They have lost focus on the customer. The phone company never thought that they were going to lose to the competition.

Traditional style workplace
Network Engineer (Former Employee) –  Gibsonia, PAMarch 16, 2019
I worked by myself in my own cubical managing my own time and projects. I usually interacted with other employees and departments via e-mail, IM, and conference calls. The workplace culture was positive, but got more negative as departments were consolidated and many employees were eliminated.

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Bangor, MEFebruary 25, 2019
Consolidated bit off more then they could chew, and to survive they laid off their highest paid, most experienced workers and replaced them with workers who would accept lower wages. In addition they tout themselves as being a local company, but the last known plans were to close out northeast call centers and shift the workforce to Texas.

Company culture is overall positive. Focus on employee philanthropy and serving the communities in which it operates. Flexible work environment and employee empowerment is evident in multiple departments.

Lack of respect for there long time employees. Outsourcing departments regularly.
Operations manager (Former Employee) –  New EnglandFebruary 20, 2019
Consolidated lives up to there name. They claim to be a family oriented company but their actions speak differently. You are only valuable to them until they can find a way to outsource your job. They broke the local union as well as overloaded the management teams to the point that many with 20+ years decided to leave.

Reducing workforce
Network Engineer (Former Employee) –  Portland, MEJanuary 30, 2019
CC is continuing previous company's (Fairpoint) pattern of reducing headcount below sustainable levels to meet shareholder demands without providing the leadership on how to manage increased workload per employee.
Pros
Salaries and benefits good for the market

Individuals can find more fulfilling work elsewhere

Good place to grow
Regulatory Analyst II (Current Employee) –  Augusta, MEJanuary 16, 2019
Consolidated Communications is a large telecommunications company that typically grows by acquisition. The company I worked for was the latest acquisition. Consolidated offers a generous benefit package, some nice perks, and a generally friendly, team-like workplace. Consolidated runs on a lean crew, meaning the opportunity to take on new responsibilities and grow skills is an ever-present opportunity.
Pros
Autonomy in the job; excellent benefits
Cons
Company internal communications need a lot of work

Concerning
Area Operations Manager (Former Employee) –  Littleton, NHJanuary 7, 2019
Very long days, very stressful dealing with union associates and management taking over from other parts of the country that have no idea of the culture in the Northern New England area. Corporate restructuring left me without a job even after working extremely hard and long hours to get promoted and even being recognized continuously at being a hard worker, loyal and fair.
Pros
Good pay and benefits
Cons
Stress, do more with less, managment change

Manager (Current Employee) –  NHDecember 29, 2018
No clear direction, and not a lot of opportunities for advancement.
Being newly acquired, there is an overwhelming feeling that something negative is going to happen or change.

Director (Former Employee) –  Manchester, NHDecember 12, 2018
Company is ok. Just took over previous company and working to make it solid. Still a lot of work to do however. Future looks ok. Somewhat concerned about numbers more than people...hopefully that changes.

Terrible
Administrative (Current Employee) –  Houston, TXDecember 11, 2018
This place is awful. In the last 3 years they have laid off hundreds of people. Each year benefits get a little worse and a lot more expensive.

Raises are horrible (if you get one), sometimes average of 1-2% for the "peons", however the upper level get much, much more.

Unless you are an executive at this company, you will be paid poorly. Even then, the stress of wondering if your job will be cut next is very hard to take.
Pros
offers benefits
Cons
not competitive with "modern" companies - ex - remote work options

INSIDE SALES (Current Employee) –  Roseville, CADecember 10, 2018
Okay entry level sales job. No real future in this role. No culture. Overall service levels are way below my expectations. Reviews by customers are worst in the industry Best part of the job is talking to customers and selling them products.
Pros
Stable
Cons
Quotas fluctuate mid month with no justification

Central Office Technician (Former Employee) –  Manchester, NHNovember 19, 2018
they were a company looking to go bankrupt and destroy the union, they knew nothing about running a company as big as ours when they bought us out from previous company who also went bankrupt, and previous company who bought from Verizon

Director of Service Delivery (Current Employee) –  Portland, MEOctober 29, 2018
A typical work day is straightforward. We review customer order metrics, manage the overall workload and manage accordingly. The issue arises when we are trying to figure out what the future of the company is going to be.

Excellent place to work but stressful
Splice Service Technician (Current Employee) –  Lancaster, NHOctober 23, 2018
CCI is a great place to work for pay and benefits and working with customers but the job can be stressful. There are times when you feel good about your work and times when you feel like you're up against the wall. Accountability is key and if you do a good job you won't be rewarded but you will feel satisfied.
Pros
Benefits vacations pay
Cons
System struggles scheduling work and time demanded of you
