Lieutenant (Former Employee) –  Indianapolis, INOctober 16, 2018
Corecivic has this way of focusing on things that's not related to the job or making it better. The leaders/ADO focus on fake gossip, rumor, or other things they would like to perceive as being facts.
Pros
Good money
Cons
Poor leadership

I really do not want to write a review. However, I cannot complete this without a writing a review that is at least 150 character minimum. I think I finally met that requirement.

Poor Everything
Correctional Officer (Former Employee) –  Crowley County, COOctober 11, 2018
Mandatory 16 or more hour days (consecutive). High turn-around rate. Supervisors don't understand that yes inmates have committed felonies and are in prison for a reason but they are still people and should still be treated like people. Its mandatory to come in on your days off (and if you say no you get wrote up even though it's your day off that is mandated by the state of Colorado employment laws)
Pros
Pay
Cons
zero lunches. zero breaks. Supervisors expect inmates to be treated poorly.

Very Negative place to work
Corrections Officer (Current Employee) –  Leavenworth, KSOctober 4, 2018
Very poor communication, training isn't what it needs to be in order for new officers to feel comfortable. Mandates are a nightmare for people with families. Inmates decide what rules they will or wont follow. Higher ups don't feel it necessary to back their officers.
Pros
Nice Hats.
Cons
everything.

Administrative Clerical (Former Employee) –  Clifton, TNOctober 1, 2018
Overall it was an interesting experience. Personally, it's not for everyone. Do I miss it? Sometimes! But, it's a huge stress relief not having to worry if I'll make it home to see my family from my job.

Thank you for your feedback. As an administrative clerk you would have worked in the administrative building removed from any interaction with inmates. It seems overly dramatic to state that you were concerned for your safety on a daily basis when you had little to no interaction with inmates other than janitorial staff.

correctional Officer (Former Employee) –  La Palma, AZSeptember 30, 2018
Did not like the work environment. Found little or no supervision. The housing unit managers were not available to security or the inmates.
Security staff picked up trash from the buildings instead of having the inmates do it.
Pros
Free Uniforms

Not a great place to work.
Medical department (Former Employee) –  El Paso, TXSeptember 28, 2018
Safety issues on a daily basis. Always short-staffed in a transient environment=danger to both staff and current residents. Poor management and too many one-sided views on issues. SAD.
Typical day- busy and aggravating
Management- not up-to-speed on the facility
Workplace culture- poor/ sad
Hardest parts of the job-Dealing with nonsense
Most enjoyable part of job- getting off for the day.
Pros
Close to home.
Cons
Everything else.

Thank you for your feedback. El Paso is a re-entry transitional center where released felons or people in diversionary programs are checking in rather than being incarcerated. It is unusual that there are safety concerns on a daily basis as most ex-offenders work hard to stay out of trouble. The transient nature of community corrections is deliberate as the mission is to help ex offenders transition back into society. Every ex-offender who successfully completes their program and is released back into society is a success to be celebrated.

CCA or Core Civic is a cool place to work
Correctional Counselor (Former Employee) –  Indianapolis, INSeptember 26, 2018
Like any correctional environment there is stress and long hours, politics and the good ole boy club. There is room for advancement at this company. The job requires that you have thick skin to deal with the inmates. It can be a stressful environment.

LMS Administrator (Former Employee) –  Nashville, TNSeptember 12, 2018
I worked for Core Civic the it was CCA. They created a job for me as they never focused on training technology. As I completed the upgrades and reporting requirements, I discovered there was no possibility for promotion so I moved on.

Thank you for your feedback. It is interesting that you claim we do not focus on training technology. CoreCivic has invested in a new cloud based LMS that goes live this year and has further invested in redesigning PreService training and hiring a field training manager. We now have 2 system administrators to manage the Learning Management System.

The starting pay has went up. All I can say is do your job and go home. Some days you will be working somewhere between 12-16 HRS. You actually feel like u still have a life. Remember you are working at a prison so you have to stay alert. The benefits could be better but they get the job done.

constant change
Anonymous (Former Employee) –  Mason, TNSeptember 7, 2018
This place has a constant change of leadership which is not a good thing. Hours are long, not enough time to spend with family. You may not know you are staying over until you are about to leave.
Pros
its a job
Cons
barely enough time to eat, stay over every day, raise after 7 years of service
