The only thing good about this job is the pay. If you want to work all the time with no time outside of work to yourself or family this is the place for you! The Detainees run the facility and the management really sucks.

If you’ve ever met a person who has worked for CoreCivic, you’ve met someone who has been lied to by CoreCivic. They have no conscience. Pay is extremely low for counselors especially for those of us who work with inmates. This company has no direction, no leadership, and no concern for workers. If you cannot find another job in your area, just CoreCivic, you’ll still be better off without them.

First, the management does not care one single ounce about your well-being. It routinely forces you to stay four hours AFTER your 12 hour shift because they either do not have staff to relieve you from your post, or they don't pay attention to who was kept over the previous day.No appreciation for making efforts to help out. The very few supervisors that have shown care or compassion end up quitting out of frustration with the company. We are currently about 40% staffed, scheduled for 5 days a week, 12 hour days. You are never out within an hour or less of your end of shift, so that's more like 65-70 hours a week at a minimum. The prison doesn't often enforce their own regulations for the prisoners, making any effort to control behavior near impossible. If you call in sick, they charge you PTO. No sick hours available. No workplace computers for you to keep up with policy changes, check email, look at your paystubs, or any other activity an employee may NEED to have access to during the work day. Poorly trained, barely motivated, and overworked staff with a general apathy about the job.If your pay is wrong, HR makes a giant deal out of helping you get it straight.

So I’ve worked at this company for nearly a year. I was hired from a consulting group out of state that resulted in my relocation to a different state. I had no corrections experience, just 20 years military and I had a Masters Degree. I was pushed into applying for the Shift Supervisor’s position after applying and accepting the CO’s position. It was great at first; however, as times went by, I’ve noticed the lack of support, favoritism and the constant ratting out amongst other staff members. This caused lot of animosity and negativity that was hovering amongst our environment. There was lack of respect amongst others including supervisors and management. The use of profane and vulgar language when addressing other staff members. All this explained the high turnover rate that this facility was experiencing. Finally, I said I had enough as it was eating down my mental and physical health. Sure the pay was ok, but it came with a great cause. Bottom line is that nobody wants to work at a place where you are disrespected, under-valued, nor even listened to. Unless you can tolerate this kind of toxic culture, I would highly advise you not to waste your time with this company.
Pros
Somewhat Decent Pay and the Job itself
Cons
Poor work life balance, favoritism and lack of support

Facility use to be great and awsome, until the new warden showed up and made a AAA facility's into the most hated and unfortunate place to Work. Ado staff is gringy and set up staff just to fire them. Note my rating is not for the whole Corecivic company but for The Eloy Detention Center. Why haven't corporate dealt with a warden that has had a horrible turn out rate last year and this year is almost at the same rate.
Pros
Co Workers
Cons
Warden/ ADO STAFF

That prison is corrupt!!! They give dirty officers all the love care and support but refuse to help the good officers! The management is horrible! The administration only cares about looks there are only 6 people out of the whole prison who actually give a rats behind about the officers!!! And if you are going through something and you make it aware to your higher up they will not work with you unless y’all are friends!!!! You have a better chance of the inmates helping you out during a life and death situation than the staff ESPECIALLY on night shift!!
Cons
The whole prison

The pay is decent for the area, however it comes at a great cost. You will work nearly 80 hours per week, the scheduler play favorites much like all of the supervisors and admin staff. Hard work is unappreciated so people get burnt out and cut corners. Some staff know that the cameras don't work while the rest are made to believe that they do. This place will kill you.
Pros
Decent Wage
Cons
Everything (It's like the Monkey's Paw)

That’s all you do, work. Mandatory OT. Staff is not held accountable. Clients run the facility. There are only a few in management that actually care and try to make things work, just to get it overturned time and time again. The place got progressively worse over time. The turnover rate is high. The pay is low. Staff moral is worse than being in high school and nothing is ever done about the continued bullying between co-workers.
Pros
I had a job
Cons
Long days, Mandatory OT, Horrible morale

Hardest thing about the job is staying awake. Night shift is easier for me because detainees don’t move around as much as they do in the day shift. The 12 hour shifts are good because we have rotating weekends off and only work 14 days out of the month. Staff is messy and management shows favoritism
Pros
Good pay
Cons
No breaks

There are several issues with working for this company. There are no opportunities for improvement of operations of staff development without the approval from Upper management which can take weeks. The management expects staff to work day and night with little personal life balance. The director at this facility is horrible and staff often call out of work with no consequences, creating hardships across the company.
Pros
Opportunity to help ex-cons
Cons
No days off, long work days, short notice of schedule changes, horrible management.

Used to be a decent place to work at but lack of support from the corporate office and poor planning since late 2016 into 2017 created a total disaster and unsafe work conditions. Too much turnover, poor decisions by the top brass, and lack of appropriate training all add up to a very unsafe environment to be in.
Pros
Paycheck
Cons
No personal life, too much politics

Job is alright, the detainees are great people provided you know how to converse with them and figure them out. NSDC is ALWAYS under-staffed, and instead of hiring & keeping new classes at this specific location, they’ll send them out to other locations. They have a “mandatory OT” guideline which essentially means your days off (which are necessary to decompress and preserve mental health) will be cut short if you give in to this “rule”. Some supervisors will talk AT you instead of to you. You’ll get no standard 30 minute meal break unless you beg for one, per NRS 608.019 during a 16 hour shift, which is clearly illegal…but due to being SHORT-STAFFED, theres hardly anybody that can relieve you anyway. Due to “mandate” lists, you’ll always be at work if it’s up to them because they always need help.

Admin Staff are clueless on how to run a facility. If they would just take the time to listen to the ones that run the compound on a daily basis it would be better. Some people have a lot of great ideas to put into play that will make the facility better as a whole, and all they would have to do is sit down and listen. In the rank structure they hire all of their pass buddies that they have worked with before instead of hiring the best person for the job.
Pros
Pay is decent at most facilities, if you get in good you get anything you want, and getting correctional/law enforcement experience
Cons
Healthcare could be better, People you work with, Lack of proper training, communication with supervisors, and not on one accord.

The Core Civic corporate environment is extremely toxic and lead by many people who simply do not know what they are doing. Little education outside of corrections so the employees get institutionalized just like inmates and eventually only have one track minds of processing and achieving goals. This makes an extremely difficult and often hostile work life to manage. Views and opinions are disregarded if not senior leadership but that’s sadly expected. It is the daily bureaucratic and redundant processes that make the work not fun nor somewhere you’d like to work for more than 6-12 months. Take this warning serious, Do Not accept a offer from CC. Just don’t.
Pros
None worth mentioning outside of 50K starting salaries
Cons
Everything else that has Core Civic name attached to it
