My 36 years at Crane Stationery
Work-life balanceI was let go after 36 years of loyal service because company was relocating to New York from Massachusetts and was not going to continue with the in house aspect of the engraving business.Pay & benefitsPay was way below what a person of my expertise should have earned since my job had to do with a certain chemistry that had to be mixed to maintain etching bath integrity. I also had to work with many hazardous chemicals throughout my entire career with Crane.OverallThe early years were great, good pay, a management that cared. But through the years the company changed hands a couple times and things went downhill from there, pay cuts, loss of 401k matches, and minuscule pay raises if any that would not even cover cost of living. And raises were given at a percentage across the board with no consideration for employees merit.

Luxury product with long history
I loved working for a company that offered growth and learning. It unfortunate that a pandemic effected the business and it was forced to dramatically reduce staffing.

Stressfull and poor management
The management does not rely on their most valuable resource and is in general very poor at communication. The constant change of rules and policy can be confusing to say the least.

Great co-workers.management not good
New company that took over seem to be looking for any reason to let people go. They aren't filling the positions that are being vacated, making the employees work harder. Management blames employees for late orders or slow production.

Exciting evolution of a quality brand
A company that breathes craft and quality Crane is starting off on a new endeavor to marry these heritage principles with new technologies, innovative design, and a community-centric approach. Having come from the start-up world myself, this 200-year-old company functions much like a start-up would without the frantic, and often over-romanticized, “fast-paced” environment. Each day we’re moving more quickly as a team, but there is a common understanding of wanting to do right by our customers and our company. There is a small team of us in New York and we work as closely as possible with the larger company in North Adams, MA often making trips there to collaborate in person. Individuals own their respective areas, but there is much to be done and the more hands in on moving us forward the better! It’s enjoyable to contribute to the new evolution of a brand, but there is still the often messy middle involved with such a large undertaking. If the idea of being part of a new chapter such as this—filled with creative opportunities—excites you, then this could be a great fit!
