Adjunct Instructor, Education Department in Dover, DE
on December 11, 2021
The overall work culture at Delaware Technical Community College is very positive, with colleagues supporting each other. The college holds training and info sessions for faculty and adjunct staff. The IT department sends out regular email updates containing useful information about using the online LMS and other tech supports. Most enjoyable part of the job is interacting with students (even if it is often virtually) and knowing that I am making a difference in their lives.

Working at DTCC is a good fit for you if you are new to the workforce and need to gain experience. High turnover rate, advancement low, and low wages.

Just don't do it, the culture is that of a catholic home in the 80s. As in, you are forced to attend every single thing so that it can make the VPs feel great that you are participating.

I have worked at DTCC for many years. In the beginning, the culture at Delaware Tech was like family. Now, that is not the case. Each employee is expected to follow the chain of command and remember your place in the hierarchy. Friendly conversation with your superiors is a big "NO." You are expected to do your job, make the company look good, while you suffer in silence being overworked and underpaid. More importantly, you will soon realize that you end up sacrificing your family time to ensure the colleges needs are being met. On a happier note, the best part about working at the college is working with like-minded people who genuinely try to make Delaware Tech a better place.
Adjunct Instructor in Wilmington, DE

Adjunct instructors are wildly exploited, only paid based off of "hands on" teaching time, 0 pay for grading, lesson planning ect all of which you are still fully required to complete. Meanwhile full time instructors are paid 40 hours a week for their planning and grading time and only required to teach 15 hours a week. 0 health benefits for adjunct instructors, dean's are unsupportive and have never spoken to most of the adjuncts that keep their department going. Adjunct instructors and full time instructors are expected to produce the same courses and student outcomes with an almost 30k pay gap. College states that they are "student centered" but their man concern is tuition and "pushing students through" even when they are failing so the program numbers appear positive. Continually short staffed with little to no support from Dean's.
