Coworkers are amazing, Admins are not
Paraprofessional (Current Employee) - Derby, CT - October 3, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI love all of my coworkers, it was very welcoming when I started. The Admins aren't very helpful and don't want to deal with students so they usually have support staff handle it. Pay is alright compared to other districts, but it's still not very good and they have strict times to clock in and out.

Kids are great, management is terrible.
Paraeducator (Former Employee) - Derby, KS - February 10, 2023
I loved working with kids on a daily basis. I definitely learned how to be more patient with children (and sometimes adults too). You may run into issues with certain students, but that's to be expected and not their "fault" at all. The culture definitely depends on which building you are at, so that varies but for the most part, all the teachers and other staff have been very kind. However, management is very hard to work with. I've had emails get ignored for months. Even if you have a pressing matter about a student- expect to not hear anything back at all. In conclusion, I loved my job. I had students and co-workers I felt like I had bonded to, but the low pay, low hours, and management issues made me decide to seek other employment opportunities.
Pros
culture, routine
Cons
mediocre benefits, low pay, short breaks, no work-life balance

Current IT tech
Lead Technician (Current Employee) - 35 5th street - May 21, 2020
Ever since the new manager came on board in 2019, things have been awesome. The work environment is great. If there was ever an issue I was able to talk to him and never felt threatened, he was willing to help in any way. At no point in my time here have I felt worried about my job security. Management is very transparent with everything.
Pros
Flexible hours, Health benefits, vacation time/PTO

Bad management, no job security
I.T. Technician (Former Employee) - Derby, CT - June 3, 2019
Lived in fear of layoffs at all times. Very poor management. Hourly pay was half what it should have been. Only 35 hours a week and very stingy about the occasional overtime hours even though there was plenty that needed to be done. Moved to a different company and my pay doubled instantly for the same type of work.

A great school system with great people but...
Employee (Current Employee) - Derby, CT - March 14, 2019
Expectations of work with low staff and high ratio of at risk students leads to a physically and emtionally exhausting job. Lack of support from higher ups makes this demanding job even more so.
Pros
Coworkers
Cons
Money, support

I have no problem creating class games as long as the game connects to the lesson objectives and the students are learning.
Spanish Teacher (Current Employee) - Derby, CT - June 23, 2017
A typical day at work is myself preparing a lesson plan for all my students to be engaged in and be connected to the learning objective. Example, I have created a classroom routine in which sets the lesson in motion. I create a question that students can be able to answer and every student will be able to understand and answer. The question usually has a connection to the lesson objective. Through this question I can assess each student and set the lesson motion forward. Here I can create a positive classroom learning environment in which every student feels confident and wants to participate throughout the lesson. The hardest part of my job is when students are not present and they need to make up their assignments. The most enjoyable part of the job is when the students witness themselves grow in what they are learning. Passing their tests and also when they are engaged and having a fun learning.
Pros
Being the role modal that supports the learning of the class.
Cons
Don't have any cons.

great work place
Paraprofessional (Former Employee) - Derby, CT - June 12, 2017
Great work place, great management, superb training by staff, the children love to be there. The school is one big happy family that relays on one another and works well as a team.
