Working at Desert Recreation District has been an amazing experience, Helping little kids coming in the office with parents helping them enroll them in activities is a highlight. Great and professional working environment.

HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (Former Employee) –  Indio, CAFebruary 12, 2018
Management was very vocal on who they liked and who they didn't like. The people were back stabbing and you never knew if you were going to be the next one to go.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Back stabbers and if they didn't like you they let you know

Amazing place to work. They work with many different people with many different needs and hobby's. Hard to start off full time, must work up to it, through promotions and different things. Besides that it's a great place to work!
Pros
rewarding, room for growth.
Cons
part time but five days a week(for my position)

Paraeducator/Children's Recreation Leader (Current Employee) –  Indio, CAJuly 7, 2017
Minimum wage to take care of children. I've never been trained to work with kids, nor have I taken first aid/CPR in case emergencies arise. Management does not deal with you unless you are chronically absent or your site leaders hate you. There is no incentive to do a good job because there are no advancements unless you're a suck-up or already have family/friends working in higher positions. Good news, they will hire literally anyone who "passes" a drug/background test. Let that sink in.

High Employee Turnover Rate
Park Manager (Former Employee) –  Coachella Valley, CANovember 22, 2016
Leadership begins at the top and Desert Recreation has very little to offer in that respect. This is a local government agency and employment is a revolving door. I have never seen employees turn over faster in any business. Although many of the employees are friendly most seem to be dissatisfied. The work place is "clicky" at the upper levels. It is too bad really as the recreation business seems like it would be about fun. Most employees held to part time positions with few benefits.
Pros
Some friendly people working here
Cons
Poor job security, would not recommend

Fun place to work with children
Senior Recreation Leader (Current Employee) –  Indio, CAJanuary 29, 2015
A typical day at work is always fun, fast paced, and never boring. I am learning more about how children develop and the importance of everything you do around children. I have had some co-workers that have been wonderful. The most enjoyable part of the day is when the children are in the classroom.
