If you like constant drama, then this is the place for you.
VOCATIONAL AIDE (Current Employee) –  Woobury, NJDecember 9, 2018
If staff could just focus on themselves and the consumers, this would be a great job to work at. If upper management didn't retaliate against good workers based off of emotions, then it would be a great job to stay and grow with the company. The consumers should be the only stress of the job, instead you have to worry about upper management overriding your supervisor with writing you up for stupid things because they don't like you. Nothing is kept in private because you have people who are always near the managers door trying to listen to what you are talking to the supervisor about or just walking in on a private conversation. You have staff who is constanly causing drama because they can't seem to separate their personal life from their work life. Due to them being miserable, they make up things to get other people in trouble possibly fired. There are too many investigations happening due to people lying for their friend that is being investigated or because they don't want to be involved. The constant threats from upper management if you don't do something a certain way or ask a simple question (make them feel powerless) you will get written up or possibly fired. Upper managment talk nasty to staff. No paid vacations, always have to use your time to cover for the holidays, and if there is a closing on the day program due to the weather, you will be forced to go into the group homes to work for the day instead of just getting paid for the bday because the center is closed. This is not a place for good hard workers. This is a place for lazy people who lie their way to the  more... top. Only corrupt staff get promotion here, if they really like you they will create a position for you out the blue. Please go elsewhere and work, don't come here. We are constantly short staff all the time, you will get burned out quickly, and there is no loyalty for hard workers, they only look out for lazy people. Staff is always om their phones not paying attention tontheir assigned consumers. Someone needs to call the state on this place, real facts!!!!!  less
Pros
Consumers and having a set schedule
Cons
Staff, upper management, no paid holidays, and being forced to work the group homes due to incliment of weather.

Campus Support, Ovn Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Scottsdale, AZDecember 7, 2018
I worked on the Sweetwater Campus in Scottsdale, AZ, for 17 years; looking forward to going to work everyday as if it were my first. There are so many positive, supporting staff and management persons, who genuinely care for the clients well being, that it is easy to work there. There are many opportunities for advancement with positive job performance. It is not a campus for persons who cannot physically, as well as mentally, assist the clients in meeting their treatment goals. It is very fast paced and only for those who can keep up!
Pros
Co workers, Opportunities for advancement, No retaliation from management, Helping youth adjust their negative behaviors, wages, free trainings
Cons
Sometimes the staff meetings and trainings take away from home time

Mental health worker (Current Employee) –  Westminster, CONovember 26, 2018
Devereux is not run the best. There are things that should be done to increase staff's overall wellbeing that are not. The hardest part of this job is learning to control all of your emotions and not let it affect your job. Also, you get assaulted. The job can be awesome sometimes, when everything is under control. Some days I come home and love this job and other days I never want to go back. It is a give and take kind of job. Does not pay enough
Pros
GREAT staff
Cons
no breaks, low pay

DCP I (Former Employee) –  Kennesaw, GANovember 19, 2018
Most of their staffs curses clients (kids) out, argues back and fourth with the kids, belittles the kids because and there's no consequences when you are in clicks. The constant horse playing nonstop with the clients. No professionalism shown while on the unit. Grown adults reverting to little kids themselves and playing with clients on the unit. They favor few clients there, which causes to discipline these clients less. Program management and supervisors are terrible, they gossip as if they were the ones in the program's high school. I have reported verbal abuse to HR towards kids regarding staff who's in the process of becoming a supervisor or shift lead, they were more concerned about making up stories assuming I had a personal issue with staffs. The SPA's are performed rough on the kids, some staffs are away from camera view God knows what really happens during those times. I feel sorry for these kids, because HR approves these hires and half of these staffs I would not have hired to even work with animals but it's a revolving door there, their establishment needs to function 24 hours, so they do not care who they hire as long as the background comes back clear, you pass your physical, you job references checks out, you are in the door to work there. Favoritism and clicks is strong in the workplace, supervisor that favors staffs, let them leave the unit whenever, and when shift is over, you can forget it, you are stuck there after 1hr when the shift ends. If you are not part of the clicks, you are harassed and micromanaged like your clueless of the work descriptions.  more... Technically, it’s a therapeutic facility for the kids, but this establishment is simply there functioning to accept more kids with every psychotic and behavioral issues while the DCP gets punch on, spat at and etc.. to collect funds daily with no real consequences, come get your prescription meds, the more meds and behavioral issues the better for them. When corporate comes to inspect or whatever, they want to act accordingly. In leadership position during any investigation, the investing party should not side with their clicks. It should solely be based on the safety of the kids, both mentally and physical thoroughly investigating and temporarily removing the staff involved from such unit, but instead, leadership do states they want a statement to conduct the investigation , but never gets one from you(Covering up so they don't mess up the staff promotion), they say they are going to handle it, and the next day they are gossiping, smiling with the accused like the person who reported had a personal agenda, conflict of interest, then stares you down the following day with the ugly look, because you told on their homegirl.. I enjoyed working with some of the staffs who were easily to approach, conversing appropriately and who respected the clients.
P.S. "SOME" staff will quickly through you under the bus.

Not much is done to retain a worker, due to their lacked of interest in workers, people come and go all the time.
Direct Support Professional (Former Employee) –  West Chester, PANovember 18, 2018
The company catered to children with behavior challenges, and yet pay less attention to those who attend to these kids. The lacked of interest for those who are playing the most significant role in keeping the mandate for which the company was established and the lacked of opportunity for advancement is key to many individuals coming and leaving after few years. The management discriminate among workers when there are problems, treating people of color differently from the white Americans.
Pros
Workers tried to work collaboratively to enhance work productivity.
Cons
No time-out for workers to have breakfast, lunch and dinner

Great experience in the mental health field.
Human Services Professional (Former Employee) –  Kennesaw, GANovember 12, 2018
It was an amazing learning environment and I was allowed to grow as a mental health professional. I learned how to interact with children and young adults that were facing different challenges in their. As an HSP, and direct support professional there was no support from upper management and the job felt threatened on a daily basis. The program was not growing because of inconsistencies in the rules and management. The hardest part of the job is not being able to successfully meet the needs of the children due to not having enough staff. There is also no work/life balance and the demand of the job can be stressful. Being on call 24/7 was difficult to manage. I enjoyed the environment and working with the children. Being able to find creative ways to make the children happy was the best part of the job. Implementing plans that allowed the children to grow and advance beyond their trauma was also very rewarding.
Pros
Free lunch, benefits

On call 24/7

DCP (Former Employee) –  Rutland, MANovember 10, 2018
A very disorganized place to work, the sad part is the kids are great but the staff is awful and will throw you under the bus . There is no advancement opportunity's I was overlooked for positions that I was more than qualified for and knew all of the paperwork for , as well as how to best do the job. Everyone is late to work every day, and coworkers will not help you out even when your new. I would not recommend working here to anyone .
Pros
great clients, decent pay, pretty good benifits
Cons
Awful staff and Management, no breaks and barely and bathroom breaks

Another place that treats everyone differently. The supervisors have favorite employees who receive all the available overtime shifts which isn't fair. Also the management sucked, employees would show up 2-3 hours late to relieve me after doing a double shift plus the time while waiting for them.
Pros
Good pay

Program supervisor (Current Employee) –  Philadelphia, PAOctober 31, 2018
You get to submit lots of paperwork, deal with the staffing, hire staffs, do payroll, ensure that your program is running smoothly and a lot of emails to send and reply. But at the end of the day, you secured. That is what Devereux does to you, keep you secure.

Need more structure and activities for the children
Mandated Reporter and CPR certified (Former Employee) –  Malvern, PAOctober 31, 2018
A typical day at work can be described as chaotic. The children are usually bored for lack of activities, which causes them to act out. I've learned to adjust to the culture of this place. The program could be great, but management is unorganized and unprofessional. The hardest part of the job is working with inadequate staff daily. The most enjoyable part of the job is helping the children; giving them hope and support.
Pros
Free lunch, Flexible schedules, helping the children
Cons
No breaks, minimal activities, Clique culture

Behavior Specialist (Current Employee) –  Mount Kisco, NYOctober 27, 2018
Working with students with autism is always challenging. Every day brings different behaviors and you always have to be ready for what is to come. Knowing that you are helping and making a difference in these individual's lives though is rewarding and makes you see life from a different perspective.

DSP (Direct Support Professional) (Current Employee) –  Berwyn, PAOctober 18, 2018
I provide support daily to individuals who are diagnosed with intellectual disability and mental health by encouraging independent living skills through facilitation; assist with activities of daily living, accompany to medical appointments, cooking and serving meals, performing light housekeeping, running errands, and providing companionship. I also administer their medications, take the individuals on outing, plan outings/activities, and monitor/facilitate activities.
