Adjunct/Visiting Professor Online
Visiting Professor (Current Employee) - Online - July 18, 2021
I like the flexibility of the online environment and there is a lot of support from the faculty advisors. The only complaint is scheduling. You are never clear on if you will be assigned a class or not.
Pros
Flexible
Cons
Unknown schduling

Student surveys used against Faculty
Visiting Professor (Current Employee) - Devry University Online - July 5, 2021
DeVry used to be a good place to work. Today, Online Faculty are assigned courses based upon the results of end-of-course surveys. Students expect A's for minimal work and take it out on the instructor through the survey if they don't receive a good grade. Dean's and department chairs don't care about anything except high student satisfaction scores. This sets up a model in which instructors that challenge students to perform well are given fewer classes than instructors that give students all good grades regardless of the effort. Shame on the university. I have over 30 years of industry experience and over 17 years of teaching computer science at the collegiate level and am leaving DeVry soon. I expect students to at least give a marginal effort and quite often that is too high an expectation.
Pros
None
Cons
Deans and department chairs punish faculty for low survey results.

Its not what it seems
Admissions Representative (Former Employee) - Naperville, IL - July 2, 2021
It starts off good but suddenly changed. Its a stressful work environment, and it's nothing but a sales job, numbers is all they care about. Everything changed when COVID hit and we started working from home. Behaviors became aggressive. They put lots of pressure on you to meet goals. Huge turnover rate!! Replacing you is a big thing with this company so keep that in mind.

Good place to work
Student Support Specialist (Former Employee) - Naperville, IL - June 30, 2021
Good place to work if you don’t mind working in a call center environment. Management was extremely helpful and nice and very team oriented. Other managers did not seem to care too much, but my manager was super nice.
Pros
Some free lunches, decent PTO but it went on seniority for the days you can request, management is good
Cons
Call center environment, lots of gossip

Productive and rewarding job.
Admissions Advisor (Current Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - June 27, 2021
This job is rewarding and fun, while it can be stressful at times. They have a super in depth four week training program where you are taught the basics. Management and coworkers also guide and give you help along the way. Great team environment and pay.

Nice Job, Horrible management.
Sales Associate/Customer Service/Technician (Former Employee) - West Hills, CA - June 21, 2021
Being a student at the time of working there was fun. Everybody has to go through you to get their books each semester. Workplace culture was very unpleasant. My Professors always asking me how I can work for such an evil person? The hardest part was finding the school itself (DeVry) was just in it for its Shareholders and lying to make profits. The only fact I learned was that education is the governments greatest Con.
Pros
Nothing Free
Cons
Had two 10 min. breaks taken down to one 15 min. break.

Micromanager on enrollment side
Enrollment (Former Employee) - Glendale, AZ - May 25, 2021
On the enrollment side, management tends to be micro managers. Real bad manager for me there—worst I’ve ever bn around. Loved the job itself and believe in the education level at DeVry. Not for the average student though, it’s upper level.
Pros
Great education level, education benefits
Cons
Lots

Jobs at DeVry University
Teaching students
Visiting Professor III (Current Employee) - Online - May 20, 2021
I really enjoy teaching students but classes go to full time faculty and hardly anything goes to adjunct. A bit unfair but it's okay because those are the guidelines.
Pros
Pay and students
Cons
Get a class every so often

Pros
Independence, training, support
Cons
One manager was not great-that could be anywhere

Don't Even Waste Your Time
Student Support Advisor (Former Employee) - Decatur, GA - May 5, 2021
This was the worst job that I ever had in my life. If you are looking to get into higher ed, DO NOT work at Devry. It is a glorified call center. You are calling and bugging the same people over and over again. You will feel worse than a used car salesman. The people who run this "school" don't care about the students. They just want to sign them up for classes. The management was not good at all. Everyone tells you something different. I worked there for 7 months and had 4 different managers. Devry lacked a lot of structure. I have never worked for such a bad company in my life.
Pros
The pay
Cons
Everything ELSE

Mission driven organization
HR (Current Employee) - Naperville, IL - May 1, 2021
DeVry University had a positive, collaborative culture. Staff work together to help students achieve success. Everyone's goals are aligned to the care of the student.
Pros
Positive Culture, dynamic staff, great benefits and pay
Cons
You need to be able to move fast and work hard

Have a plan B if work here.
Admissions Advisor (Former Employee) - Naperville, IL - April 16, 2021
It's the training that needs work. Nobody has time to help you because you have to be on call before 1 min. I like to earn my money and it's unfortunate that the job was basically done for me since the training wasn't well put together. Nobody has time to teach you. You should have patience to teach. You can tell who are the favorites. It didn't seem genuine working there. Very micromanage. I felt I wasn't moving up in the company. I stayed just at my position. I've seen 2 other new people move up higher than me and they were still asking me questions. Getting 12 registered students was always the goal and I did it twice for being there for 1 year and half. I wish I would've stayed, but I knew I wasn't feeling fulfilled anymore as a role. I was noticing people were getting let go if you ended up only having 2 reg students and you would get letter concern and then get on PIP (performance improvement plan). Then after that, you would get let go. I felt they had control of your numbers in your dial. They would pick those who needed to go. I just couldn't wait to be let go like that. I couldn't risk my finance. This company pays well to start, but really need to think through how to keep their real good advisors and not push them away. I didn't feel I earned my money right when others do the job for me. I kept telling them how much I didn't want them to think I was lazy and I wanted to earn my way. Felt it was just being ignored. I still have old coworkers I still speak to and its unfortunate I won't be able to see them since we worked remote. Met some great people.
Pros
Pay is decent
Cons
Training needs work, so you are on your own later. Asking questiones is a must

Too Much Emphasis on Getting New Students in the Door
Student Finance Analyst (Former Employee) - Oak Brook, IL - April 11, 2021
I wasn't even in admissions, but with the pressure coming to our department from admissions and the huge amount of resources in that department, it was easy to see that getting new students in the door was a bigger priority than taking care of them once they were there. I was happy with the pay and promotions came regularly, lots of people were just phoning it in so it was easy to stand out. Communication was very siloed and mostly via email, so tensions flared easily with people in other departments because it wasn't easy to meet someone face to face to smooth things over and come to an understanding. Very production focused, daily counts of how many accounts each of us worked were sent out to my team. At my next workplace they had to coax me out and assure me that it was OK to spend a little time talking to my officemates about what we did over the weekend.
Pros
Pay, ability to be promoted, free tuition
Cons
Communication between departments, overall sinking feeling that we weren't do the best for most of our students

Very slow but chill place
Front Desk Receptionist (Former Employee) - Folsom, CA - March 11, 2021
Not much foot traffic to the office. Very slow and don’t learn alot from the position. Good people to work with but just too much expectations for little training.

Deans don't really care about faculty.
Professor (Former Employee) - Pomona, CA - March 10, 2021
Too many people only care about themselves. Leadership positions would go out of their way to take credit for you accomplishments while not recognizing their subordinates.
Pros
University day - free breakfast and lunch.
Cons
Lots of expectations and little rewards.

Most enjoyment is lunch and typical day at work you say hi to a few people and work. You will usually have a little time to reset after lunch and then you can fully focus on your work.
Pros
Lunch
Cons
