Top 50 Firm, Below Average Pay
SITE CIVIL ENGINEER (Current Employee) –  Fairfax, VAJuly 4, 2018
They get away with the fact they are a big name in the market and use it as an excuse to pay the employees below average wages. This leads to the high turnover rate within the middle management employees.

Dewberry offer a variety of work and the ability to travel with team members to go where the work takes you. Lots of company events bring the staff together and create an excellent work environment.

A place to grow
Senior Geographer/Quality Assurance (Former Employee) –  Fairfax, VAMay 8, 2018
In my time at Dewberry, I grew from a Cartographer to Quality Assurance Analyst while learning the many aspects of environmental engineering, flood insurance mapping and program management. I worked closely with engineers, hydrographers, CADD and digital drafting technicians to produce quality products for FEMA. In addition, I worked closely with my immediate supervisor to develope and institute guidelines specifications that helped streamline the mapping production process.
The hardest part of my job would have been getting the project managers to understand the time requirements of the quality review process; our times were often shortened to provide times in the other parts of the production process.
The overall work culture was pleasant, wth coworkers willing to help you understand their jobs/tasks and how each affected the other parts of the process. Therefore, the hardest part of my job was having to say goodbye to my coworkers as they left and saying goodbye at the time I left.
Pros
Great benefits, helpful administration staff, annual picnics and social events.
Cons
None, really.

Collaborative and competitive, self-paced career-building
Architectural CAD Drafter (Former Employee) –  Danville, VAApril 4, 2018
Co-workers are very supportive and collaborative, fosters team work in any given project. Managers delegate tasks efficiently per company standards. Hardest part of the job is being able to face unusual task/jobs internally to support other offices' workloads but support is always there when you ask for it. You will enjoy the camaraderie within your department and this is one reason why your daily grind moves forward.
Pros
Lunch and learns for updating stock knowledge in the AEC industry
Cons
you get idle sometimes

Poor management, survey department a disaster
Survey crew chief (Former Employee) –  Bloomfield, NJMarch 10, 2018
Survey department has no leadership the senior crew chiefs are opportunistic only looking out for them selves, no team culture. The workload is one sided. They do have the best equipment to work with, salary is good with compensates the nasty office politics they have there. If you need a job good place to be but not a good place for a career.
Pros
One man crew
Cons
Unhealthy workload and office culture

OK place to coast, not a good place to start a career
Systems Administrator (Current Employee) –  Fairfax, VAFebruary 1, 2018
The overwhelming opinion of IT at Dewberry is summed up in the word 'overhead.' You can pretty much only ever get promoted if someone leaves, dies, or you become so grossly over qualified that THEY expect you to quit otherwise.
HR makes it difficult to fire for incompetence, so some folks really just coast. Knowing this, management kind of assumes that everyone is coasting and doesn't give anyone credit for their achievements.

Good pay but lots of back stabbers
Crew chief (Former Employee) –  RaleighDecember 6, 2017
The work load and pay was very well! Time off didn't seem to be an issue when requested. But lack of communication, favoritism, and bias acts and not making one feel like part of the family bit the dust with this group! Too many brown nosers and tattle tells, and back stabbers! And no chance of reconciliation!

Engineering Internship (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLAugust 1, 2017
Interns are treated extremely well and you get a lot of opportunities to develop. The culture is very relaxed and easy going. The pay is on the high end for similar internships.

Conservative company with limited advancement opportunity
Project Manager (Current Employee) –  New JerseyMay 7, 2017
Poor work-life balance, with limited support, compensation and benefits for demonstrated accomplishments. The company culture has employees "pigeon-holed" into specific roles of responsibility. On the positive, benefits are competitive compared within the A-E industry.

Construction Inspector (Current Employee) –  Fairfax, VAMarch 5, 2017
Each day I went to job, I determined to learn something new. Construction is dynamic process. So expecting new things you are going to face, in a daily basis, is challenging and fun in the same time in my opinion.

Very knowledgable in the Engineering industry
Manager (Current Employee) –  Fairfax, VAJanuary 26, 2017
Dewberry is a great company to work for if you have multiple years of experience. If you are not an Associate, there are no bonuses. Dewberry promotes teamwork, but doesn't compensate the worker bees that contribute to the success of the company and/or upper level Associates.

Land Development Intern (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLJuly 6, 2016
Dewberry is a great company to work as various departments can be available in one area. I learned computer skills such as Autodesk AutoCad and Bentley Storm/Water Cad. In addition, I learned a lot of each municipality and city differs from one another.

Instrument Operator (Former Employee) –  Pittsburgh, PAFebruary 9, 2016
I traveled working in the pipeline survey area. It's more like they hire their friends that have no experience and let go people that actually know what they are doing.
