Management is terrible
Teller (Former Employee) –  Burlington, MAJuly 15, 2018
HR does absolutely nothing for their employees. if they can save the managers, they will. and managers will go so far to save themselves before admitting they’ve done wrong. Also, the amount of gossip that goes on between managers it’s like watching 13 year old girls in middle school, ridiculous. Despite the great rates they offer, dcu is NOT a good company to work for unless you are a manager.

I've enjoyed working at DCU, only leaving because we're moving out of state. The company encourages movement to other jobs in the company, if desired
Pros
On site cafeteria with excellent food and great prices
Cons
Work can get hectic during busy home buying seasons

Bank Teller (Former Employee) –  Andover, MAJuly 1, 2018
Management is racist, they care more about the customers than their own employees. They do not like change or like to hear other opinions on things. If you need help or have any concerns human Resources’s would not help you with anything.

Management is hilariously unintelligent
Consumer Loan Processor (Former Employee) –  Marlborough, MAJune 23, 2018
Let's say you find yourself working in a department for five years and you really understand what your job is and understand even the minutiae of your job, you will at some point be placed under a manager who has never worked in your position yet somehow can rate your performance, and typically they are of below-average intelligence. The employees are great however, and even if they don't say it, they are fed up with working for unqualified managers. DCU will laud their room for advancement but that is not true. I have seen people move up into positions of management and other higher level positions who got there only because they knew someone in management, not based on a meritocracy. If there were some form of meritocracy you'd see intelligent management, but that is not the case. Also, if you find yourself employed here, do the bare minimum. If you work harder than average, you will find yourself being delegated to far more than others except without the benefit of higher pay or even advancement. You will pick up the slack for the less productive and you will receive no recognition. The job however, is useful to acquire lending and banking knowledge and then to take elsewhere to a work place that actually values hard work and intelligence. The hardest part of the job is watching the most productive and competent people - who provide most of the value - get left behind and maybe even treated unfairly and watch incompetent, unintelligent, and unknowledgeable people move up. The easiest part are the employees outside of management. They are actually are great people and willing  more... to help members. Which is another reason not work to there. They have moved from member service to just numbers. They are just another call center and it was transformed from a great credit union, to just another call center by unintelligent and incompetent people who are suffering from the Dunning-Krueger effect. Oh, they have free food sometimes.  less

You could advance if you knew the right people and was kissing up to the boss. However normal humans in the company were stuck where they are. This place is a joke and they don’t even know there employees
Pros
Free lunch

Customer service agent (Former Employee) –  Marlborough, MAMay 13, 2018
For getting into the banking business this is a great place to start. they have good training program and pretty helpful throughout working there. Of late they have gotten away from the family feeling and more goal driven making it feel like a big bank except there is no reward for hitting your monthly goals. they do have an annual bonus up to 10% of your salary which can be very nice but you only play a small roll in this overall bonus. simply put if a lot of people do not carry there weight then you suffer on your bonus. The one other thing is ever day there is something wrong where there system somewhere that makes it hard to help the member, there IT team just does not seem to be getting this handled.
Pros
good benefit package, easy place o work, team leads for the most part are helpful, hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks, company outings and holiday parties
Cons
Low pay, need to be on the buddy list to be promoted here, they do not do drug testing, system always down

Great first job out of high school...not so much for experienced worker
Information Specialist (Former Employee) –  Marlborough, MAMarch 28, 2018
Great first job to teach discipline of being on time and overall work expectations. Fun little contests to keep kids engaged. Micromanaged as training is not all inclusive. Schedule changes weekly and makes for a challenging work/life balance.

Challenging environment for someone not used to working in a time clock atmosphere. Sales are pushed very hard and are primary to member services. Systems are challenging and disjointed. Overall 80% turnover rate in the call center.
Pros
Easy to get the job, snacks, contests, they try to make things fun
Cons
Micromanagement, hard sales pitch, time management issues

DCU was a great first job of college. Management is very supportive and encouraging. They offer intense training and great company benefits. They offer fun perks and contests to keep employees engaged and make the work atmosphere fun and competitive while still driving results. They have an amazing work culture with a fitness studio and personal trainer, massage therapist, game room, full cafeteria. They have a great sense of work-life balance.
Pros

Consumer Loan Processor (Current Employee) –  Marlborough, MAJanuary 23, 2018
I have been with the company for over a year now and I loved it from the start but have grown to love and appreciate it more and more each day. While the company is efficient in providing fast and adequate support to its members, it does not leave behind its employees always giving opportunities for self growth through monthly team meetings, one on one meetings with mentors or supervisors, as well as constant fun activities, competitions, and events keeping the culture lively and tightly knit. I wish I could always work at DCU.

caring

Strong growth culture. Sr. Management announces goals for the CU and everyone participates in meeting or exceeding the goals. Many opportunities for growth and learning. When you exceed expectations you are rewarded.
Pros
Clear vision / goals.
Cons
Everything always must be done 'yesterday'.

E-Team Member Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Marlborough, MANovember 3, 2017
I worked for DCU for 2.5 years and it went downhill from day 1. None of the managers have any experience and it shows. DCU pretends to have good benefits because the salaries aren't that great but almost every place offers tuition reimbursement and yearly raises.

Teller (Former Employee) –  Worcester, MASeptember 21, 2017
DCU is a company that not only puts its customers first, but treats its employees with respect. Though I only had the job for a couple months, it really was a job that I looked forward to going to everyday. I got along with all of my co-workers, and really felt like it was a place I belonged at.
Pros
Great benefits, wonderful staff, good work environment.
