Super stressful but overall worth it
Hostess (Current Employee) –  Glendale, CAJanuary 15, 2019
Many times at the beginning of my employment at Din Tai Fung the stress felt unbearable. but after a couple months it just becomes normalized and in fact, quite simple. Co-workers are friendly and always helpful. management is supportive and (most of the time) reasonable. constantly changing and evolving work practices keep us on our toes. the only part that stays underwhelming is bad guest interactions. you will get some guest that make you feel incompetent and who can also be very rude/hurtful. just part of the job, you learn to not take it to heart.
Pros
50% off shift meals. 20% dine in discount ( on weekdays only, 10 % on weekends/holidays)
Cons
rude guests, stressful environment

Greeter (Former Employee) –  Tukwila, WAOctober 1, 2018
Good management that will work with your scheduling and ensuring a full crew. Structured and easy to follow work expectations that are clearly communicated throughout company. Provided basic employee meal for free and required uniform. They prefer to promote within and encourage ideas for improvement.
Pros
Well structured and opportunity for growth
Cons
Little room for self expression, strictly uniformed

Don't work here
Cashier (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAOctober 8, 2018
AVOID WORKING HERE

Terrible managers/supervisors. Don't tell you what you are doing wrong. Waiting for the moment for you to mess up so they can fire you. They also don't tell you how you can fix and improve yourself. They secretly watch you for one week before deciding that you should be fired. "90 probation period" is a lie
Cons
short breaks, poor management, no communication

Wait Staff (Current Employee) –  Santa Clara, CANovember 28, 2018
i love din tai fung. my only problem is that they are corporate and they are very strict on lots of things. for example, everything is points based, no unnatural hair color, tattoo has to be hidden, have to be fully dressed with tie, apron, black slacks, black button up shirts and be ready by the time you cloked in.

Avoid Working here at all cost
Bartender/Waiter (Former Employee) –  Glendale, CAAugust 6, 2018
I worked at Din Tai Fung for 5 years. I am well versed in how this company operates. The management lacks and kind of decency or respect for their employees. You are treated like cattle to be given to slaughter whenever the management tires of you. They meticulously watched over every employee instead of actaully making it a welcoming place to work. Servers and Kitchen staff frequently change over because it is that stressful a place to work. Avoid at all costs.

It's okay pay for servers, but a poor place to work. Really poor management. all the way up to the HR department. Run by a bunch of idiots. I would rather go to any place to wait tables, even Village inn.

Potential Manager (Former Employee) –  San Diego County, CAOctober 26, 2018
Apparently they only hire Oriental descent managers and Employees, anyone from different race, few chances to get hired. Labor authorities should look into it, Shame on this Company.

Awful work place
Host (Current Employee) –  Santa Clara, CAJune 16, 2018
Management are all different, with different values and ways of approaching things. Very small to no career growth at all. Consistently crowded and stressful. Overworked for the pay. No benefits provided and they make it almost impossible to get full-time or over 27 hours working as front of the house.
Pros
Friendly coworkers
Cons
No growth, not a lot of hours.

Great Place to work
Dumpling cook (Former Employee) –  Costa Mesa, CAAugust 19, 2018
Great place to work but just not for me personally. Every individual was hardworking and received a family feel friendly energy. Meeting customer demands was a great accomplishment knowing the company is well know for its quality.

Setting the Tables
Busser, Food Runner (Former Employee) –  Arcadia, CAMay 14, 2018
Typically, as a Setter, you will mainly be re-stocking approximately 40-50 pound totes to re-stocking stations all around the restaurant. Then, you will set tables up for customers with a bowl for each setting which would consist of a plate, a napkin, chopsticks on the right and a fork on the left. Easy job, only challenge was re-stocking those heavy totes. Everybody is so nice and friendly there too. Half off lunch too!
Pros
Half off Lunch, 2 items
Cons
If you work an 8 hour shift, they make you take an hour off.

Such a stressful work environment with poor management. There is absolutely no system in terms of advancing/ moving up from your position. Extreme lack of flexibility in scheduling.

Really long shifts and at times forced to stay longer or come in early just to take 30 minute break because shifts were longer sometimes, especially during closing shift. Otherwise, very good company with great pay.

Server (Former Employee) –  Costa Mesa, CAApril 26, 2018
Din Tai Fung is one of the best places to work at if you want to learn about teamwork, the "core" values of life on how it treats you by how much hard work you put into it, and love for one another.

You get to learn to be your own boss before heading out there in the real world.

Management is great on how you view your boss as. They can help you, guide you, or you can learn from each other. But all in all, mostly all the management from Din Tai Fung has been an amazing asset to the team.

Most enjoyable part about Din Tai Fung is jyo jyo jyoing our way through each shift smiling and also suffering inside because some customers can be hella extra but since we try our best to work that 110%, we pave our way through the Din Tai Fung spirit and not give up.
Pros
Delicious foods during break, awesome co workers, boba.
