Rohm & Hass Culture AND Dow Rules

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Dow recently purchased Rohm & Hass site at Ringwood. a lot of the folks carried over from R&H. Dow laid off a lot of people & leaned out the team. Each person is now doing multiple jobs with no job redundancy. Which means each person is heavily responsible, leading to stress. management is unorganized and chaotic. Good place to learn, as the site now has Dow SME resources to pull from.

Bad management and poor wages

Put it this way don’t expect to get a raise or anyone to be professional about anything...if you need steady work that makes you feel worthless this is the place for you.

An assembly of unqualified people

A hiring standard for the company has decreased significantly in last 2-3 years because the company has not been able to stay competetive with its pay and benefits. Most people are crawling up to their position because if they get fired for their respective position they won't be able to find a suitable position elsewhere. Lot of people with no background in chemistry gets hired in because they are cheap. Unfortunate turn of events for this legendary organization.

Unproductive and unprofessional

Don't expect a salary raise or promotion unless you have a PHD. Management is unprepared and ill-equipped to handle day to day operations. Management is more concerned with the stock price then the efficient operation of R&D

It’s a job don’t make it your life

It’s just a job. There are better opportunities out there. However it’s a great place to start. Don’t get sucked in and stay. They will change your benefits you’ve stayed and work for to better suit their pockets at will. Enjoy OT… there’s a lot of it since turn over is high.

chemical plant where you get experience and then leave

chemical plant where you get experience and then leave. Overall management is horrible. The pay is bare minimum. Advancement depends on how well you are liked and not your skill level.

Productive and exciting work environment.

Great company to work for in all aspects. Diversity, inclusion and respect and responsibility/accountability as well as work/life balance. I enjoyed the people, the culture, work environment and 9/80 work schedule. Community focused and involved in many organizations that contribute to the needs of their local community as well as external.

It was ok

Amazing managers, great building, friendly people, pay could be better and transparency needs work. Great cafeteria and vending machines. Fun Christmas parties.

Great teams and benefits

Overall a productive environment. Management is overall supportive but can be political. Recommend having a sponsor or mentor. Timeliness is important and keep learning new skills to stay valuable.

Decent place to but pay was low

Pretty ok place to work if your in need of job in between classes if you’re a college student. Work eneviroment was pretty laid back but the managers can be on your neck sometimes

A good place if you love OT and 12 hour shifts.

12 hours, rotating shifts, graveyards, can be tough to balance work life. A good place if you love working and want OT. Most Co-workers are great and like helping out on another.

Great people.

Pay not great for the amount of work performed. Not quick to promote within DOW. Work life balance not great unless you are a manager or team lead.

Strong culture, very supportive

Very supportive culture; many growth opportunities; can move laterally within company; a lot of interesting internal and external seminars; a lot of employee resource groups (ERG)

Good pay. Good benefits. Horrible culture.

I enjoy most of my job; however, management does not treat all people equally or give equal opportunity to people. The pay is very good, and the benefits are pretty good, too. Dow's culture leaves plenty to be desired, though.

It's an ok place to work

Operator there for 5 years. Benefits are really good but no work/life balance. They took some pay down in operator roles even with the rise of inflation.

When they need you to be away from your family, they expect it. When you need to be away with your family they frown on you. Everything is in their best interest, not yours. During Covid they didn’t care about your personal situation, just needed workers. After working numerous outages, weather coverage, call outs, when I needed something, I got nothing. They only care about profit and bonuses, not the people that put in the hours and sacrifice their personal lives for the company. Long review, but accurate. Ask anyone who works for Dow and is not a manager or higher up. Ask the working hands and you’ll get the same.

Lack of communication between management and employees. Many employees feel underappreciated and divided. High expectations little to no appreciation.

I am working alone on a two person job and never receive any recognition or appreciation for it. No energy left after working a 12 hour day. Extreme multi-tasking and attention to detail, more than any other company that I have worked.

Possibly the benefits

Lower pay than other companies in the area, not enough vacation time, multiple division within the company, no appreciation or acknowledgement for going above and beyond what is expected.

the ability to advance even if you do not have a degree

If you work hard to be the best you will succeed. If you just get by will will just stay in the same role. If you don't do your job you won't have one

Pay & benefits

Work Life balance, but it is part of the job as the company runs 24/7

Some places are great other are down right horrible.

I worked for both great areas and horrible ones. The great ones I only left because I am the type of person who likes to continue to grow. Out of the 3 areas I worked. I only liked 1. One was tolerable and the last was terrible. Management was inconsistent and HR just socks. If you get a good area. Stay there and don't move. It will not get better.

Good steady employment. Horrible managers.

Great place to add to the resume, horrible management, and still the good old boy standards. Only way to move up is to scratch backs and be favorites. Job performance is not accounted for.

Falling apart, selling blocks off.
