i've been working for dragonfly noodle for 9 months now. when i applied, i had no prior experience in the restaurant industry, but it seemed like a great introduction to this line of work, and my time spent here has proven me right. if you have a drive to create, maintain, and be a part of a nurturing work environment, this is the place for you. i applied to be a part of the leadership development program. after i applied, management was quick to reach out to me with a very easygoing phone interview. they got to know me, laid out some scenarios, asked how i'd handle them, then we scheduled a working interview. as someone who had never worked in a restaurant, the working interview seemed like a very intimidating, nerve wracking experience to me, but i felt welcome from the moment i first stepped foot into the restaurant. the whole team seemed very happy to meet me, and were super helpful and understanding with any questions i had, no matter how dumb they seemed. when i sat down with the director of operations to wrap up my interview, it felt more like an insightful conversation between some like minded people, rather than the typical job interview. despite having a lot of upcoming trips, limited availability, and no experience in the field, they were understanding, and i was offered a job, and i started shortly after. i could tell during my training experience that this company has high standards for its employees, but they gave all the opportunities and tools needed to meet said standards. one of my favorite aspects of the job is that all of the recipes and processes have -

Stressful environment and no communication

This restaurant did not provide breaks for majority of shifts or when they did it was a problem. The Denver store is very new and I was trained at the Boulder one but it was definitely difficult as the manager refused to train me the most part and had me prep with no supervise as it was supposed to be a training shift. Both stores have little to no care for their employees when it came to closing and making sure everyone got home safely. The positions they only have at each store is mostly team member which falls to prep, cook, dishwasher, cashier, sever, and expo. You are doing everything and have to know and learn everything because of this it is considered a stressful environment. They are not willing to train anyone properly or to be understanding for those who have not ever worked in a restaurant before either. This restaurant does not seem worth it as you don't have any extra benefits no insurance, tips, raise, or breaks.

Pros

Good pay

Cons

No healthcare, no insurance, bad management, no communication, no breaks

Fast-paced new restaurant in LODO with benefits and incentives for the team

I've been working with the restaurant group encompassing Dragonfly Noodle and Zoe Ma Ma for just over a year now. A typical day for me involves everything from serving, manning the cash register, managing guest experience, prepping for the kitchen, cleaning the store, and everything in between. There is always something to do.Despite working in the foodservice industry since 2017 I have learned more working under Edwin, our chef and the owner, in the past year than my entire career. In Dragonfly I have been taught to use top of the line kitchen equipment such as an industrial pasta maker and an industrial combi oven. On top of equipment I have learned many cooking skills and techniques with the company. I have also been trained in menu development by our Operations Director.Management is handled well within Dragonfly. Being a new and expanding business the management team is small and attentive. Feedback for the company is not only appreciated; it is encouraged. Within the company we have a thorough 'Leadership Development Program' which is used to train management hopefuls at a digestible and manageable pace.Dragonfly has a warm, welcoming culture that is very much work hard play hard oriented. The management team is allowed to experiment in the kitchen off hours which I have personally taken advantage of and found passion in. Another way in which the culture is healthy and pleasant is the freedom to use the dining area (in off hours) to play games with coworkers and relax with a member of management present, of course. The hardest part of working at Dragonfly in Denver -

A great place to grow and learn

There is a very unprecedented focus on growth at this restaurant that I've never experienced at other workplaces. On my first day I sat down with the director of operations and we laid out a clear path that leads to a management role. I was taught how to run every station in the restaurant as that is the standard operating procedure at this store. Every step of the way I was shown by staff that had already mastered the skills required. The teaching method that they use is one of understanding and patience. I have worked at restaurants where I have been yelled at and demeaned for making a single mistake. That type of teaching from managers would not be accepted at Dragonfly Noodle. Another unique thing that I have never experienced at other restaurants is that management is always on the floor working with everyone else. They work a majority of their shifts on the floor. The mindset with managers is that they work first and foremost as a support to the team and they do whatever is needed to make sure the team is happy and not overworked. Like any restaurant, when they are busy it will be a little rough but it always feels better knowing that managers are also in the trenches with you. The most enjoyable part of the job is that the team that they have is comprised of amazing people who are easy to get along with. Work is always easier and more fun when the people around you are also hardworking and nice. I can say without a doubt that this place is one of the best places I've ever worked, if not the best.

Pros

Free meal every shift, guaranteed pay, amazing coworkers, good managers

The BEST Leadership and Development Opportunity

I've been with the organization for 8 years, starting as a Cashier & Expediter and worked my way up to senior management. The owner is an amazing chef and mentor, creating a path to the executive level for me. I've been challenged as much as I've been rewarded. I look forward to continue growing with our organization!
