Supportive and rewarding place to work

I have worked at Empire Edge for a year as a tutor. The leadership and staff are incredibly supportive of my work and allow me to focus on what I do best. Compensation is generous, and additionally it is clear that the company is invested in my long-term professional development. I have access to training resources to expand into new subject areas, and the company provides technology to support my remote tutoring work. Maybe most importantly, it is obvious that the leadership truly cares about the well-being of their staff and students. I am in frequent contact with the company president to share honest feedback about recent tutoring sessions, and how we both can best support the students. I have met countless wonderful families and get to work with smart, dedicated professionals. I couldn't imagine a better experience working with an agency.

Unfair treatment of tutors/advisors

The manager of this company promised me from the start a lot of students and hours of work, but that never happened. I went through their unjustified long hiring process, waited patiently for them to give me students, and missed all the other opportunities that were available to me. The manager tries hard to get you on board but there is no guarantee you'll have even one student. This company is just a waste of time.

We are sorry to hear this was your experience with Empire Edge. If I am correct, I believe this employee was hired at the beginning of the academic year during the pandemic. Our needs at the time of his/her interview and recruiting process proved to be significantly different this year than they had been in previous years. I am sorry if you feel your time was wasted; it was not our intention.

A High-End Workplace with a True Passion for the Job

While the interviewing and on-boarding process can seem very intense for a tutoring position, it becomes quickly apparent why Empire Edge is a cut above the rest once you pass their qualification tests. You are well-compensated and feel fully supported as a tutor at this position. Even more than that, it's great to have a CEO and staff that are genuinely invested in each student, providing feedback at nearly all steps of the tutoring process from the first meeting to the day-to-day sessions.

Ideal Company to Work With

I have worked with Empire Edge for the past year and have only the highest commendations to share about the company. Empire Edge is a small advising agency, which means that academic advisors have direct contact with the president of the company and are able to voice any feedback or concerns freely. There is significant room for growth as advisors are regularly asked to check in regarding their experiences and goals. Furthermore, Empire Edge provides advisors with any and all resources and training necessary to ensure that they are able to become true experts on whatever subject matter they may be working in. Advisors are compensated well for the work that they do. Furthermore, they are appreciated by both the management of the company and the families of their students. I have nothing but praise for the manner in which Empire Edge has established itself as a foremost academic advising agency and have never once felt that I could have a better or even comparable experience working with another company.

Unrealistic expectations and no consideration for employees

At first I was very excited to get interviewed and progress to the certification tests for Empire Edge. However, I quickly realized that it was the biggest waste of my time and effort I've ever experienced. In order to be certified to tutor any subject, one must first take a certification test. For individual subjects, this usually means an actual old SAT subject test (I.e. Latin, Chemistry, Biology). My first sign that things were run strangely should have been when no one was able to tell me what score would be considered high enough to progress. I wanted to know this so I could gauge my practice tests. Apparently its "case-by-base basis". To tutor ACT/SAT the process is a little more intense. You not only take a pre-test that is a full ACT/SAT english and reading for the verbal certification, or a full ACT/SAT science and math for the science and math certification. Then if you score high enough on the pre-test, you go to a two day training that is 7 hours each day of one weekend. This was actually insightful and the only good part of the process. They provided free lunch which was thoughtful. Then you take a post-test after the training. Again, no word on what was expected to be a "pass" mark. Not to mention you only would get one student "for awhile" until you can prove that you are a good tutor. This makes the timeline for getting started even longer. It would nearly take 2-3 months to get more than 1 and a half hours a week it would seem. My issue with the company is the unrealistic expectations of prospective tutors. Making in the 90s percent-wise apparently -

The Best Place to Tutor in NYC

Empire Edge has great resources, materials, and training. You get the opportunity to work with some of the best and brightest students in New York City and the staff is comprised of extremely smart and pleasurable people to work with. The company is beyond professional and is there to accommodate their tutors, whether that be assistance in scheduling, help in the office, grading tests, providing supplementary material, or overall guidance. The job is very rewarding. Empire Edge is the best private tutoring company in New York City to work for. Simple as that!

Premier tutoring company in NYC

I have tutored at Empire Edge for approximately three years, and I cannot say enough good things about this company. You work with some of the brightest, most motivated students in New York, and it is so rewarding to see how much they develop. I do ACT and SAT verbal tutoring, and honestly I am blown away by the sophistication of the proprietary materials this company has developed for us to use. The passages they wrote are *hard*, and they make my students really sweat, but the official exam starts to feel easy to them by the time it comes around. I'm also really impressed with how intensive the training is. I had done some private tutoring in college, and my own standardized test scores are very high. Before I started working with students for Empire Edge, however, I went through a training course that wound up being really helpful. It brought some aspects of the exam into focus that I wasn't fully clear on, and I took away a lot of good advice about how to run my sessions more effectively. A CUNY professor ran it, and it felt more like a grad class, actually.

Great place to work

Tutoring with Empire Edge was an amazing experience. I was able to work with essentially as many students as I could handle. I also received extensive support from the company in terms of handling and communicating with families. I would recommend Empire Edge to any tutor in the NY area.

Great job, great company!

Working as a tutor for Empire Edge was an amazing experience and I recommend it wholeheartedly. This was a rewarding job in which I was helping students improve their academic performance and self-esteem. The job offers amazing flexibility and you can easily set your work hours around your school, work, or personal schedule. I am most grateful for the administrative side of the company which always worked to ensure I felt valued and was well-compensated for my efforts. I encourage any tutor to seriously consider Empire Edge, as it is a great place to find rewarding word in a supportive, fun environment.

Fun and Rewarding

Great place for some part-time income. They provide the training in the beginning (but you have to pass an exam at the end, which consists a mix of SAT/ACT questions). Very professional tutoring company.

Rewarding Experience

Empire Edge offers tutors a unique opportunity to work side-by-side with some of New York City's brightest students. Tutoring sessions take place in private homes, public spaces, or even by webcam. Tutors skilled in standardized test preparation or in a wide variety of high school and college-level subjects are in high demand and Empire Edge will connect you with students driven for success. After three years working exclusively for Empire Edge, I continue to marvel at the rapid growth in confidence and ability in all my students. I highly recommend applying if you have a passion for education and are striving to make an impact on a daily basis.

Wonderful Place to Work

Empire Edge is a fantastic company and I am very fortunate to be a part of it. The employees are wonderful to work with and there is always an open line of communication. Everyone is passionate about education and dedicated to making a difference. I highly recommend working here.
