Save Yourself heartache DO NOT WORK HERE!!!!!!
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Cinnaminson, NJOctober 4, 2018
Upper management demeaning, very secretive, distant with their employees, not genuine at all. They smile at your face but will stab you in the back when you turn around. They cannot be trusted. There is no communication between them, their employees and HR. HR has no clue of what is happening with the company. If you ask them they look dumbfounded. Benefits are horrible. If you get a promotion expect to be demoted. Its family run but the family cant get along with each other. They are very dysfunctional. HR staff is also highly unprofessional. Senior management are both uneducated and incompetent.
Pros
Good location
Cons
Benefits are horrible. Management is untrustworthy. Unsettled atmostphere.

(Greedy) Family Owned Lab
Analyst (Current Employee) –  Cinnaminson, NJJanuary 27, 2019
You have to consistently fight with management to maintain your scientific integrity. This business cares for money money money over integrity and employee safety. They will lie through their teeth during audits, to customers, and to enormous employees regarding expedite to harmful potentially life threatening substances that come through the lab.
Cons
No scientific integrity, poor ethics in general, nepotism, $30 Visa gift card holiday bonuses, less than cost of living raises, awful health insurance options.

Look elsewhere. Total Dysfunctional Management
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Cinnaminson, NJSeptember 27, 2018
Extremely dysfunctional, family run company. Benefits are the worst. Heavy turnover. They advertise as an EOE, but they are not. HR staff is highly unprofessional. Senior management are uneducated and incompetent family members. They rarely promote from within. It is a dead-end job for the majority of good, hard-working, educated people who don’t get appreciated for their dependability, loyalty and outstanding work performance. The atmosphere in their headquarters’ sales department is more like a country club/bar than a business office. Employees actually spend more time on their cell phones than doing work in most departments. Employee safety is a concern, since they are exposed to potentially hazardous substances.
Pros
Casual dress code
Cons
Health Benefits are terrible. Company does not contribute enough

Worst company to work for
Analyst (Former Employee) –  New York, NYOctober 13, 2018
I would recommend not working here. They are cheap, equipment is old and is constantly breaking in branch labs--yet corporate has brand new equipment. Corporate gives the branch labs breaking and old equipment and supplies themselves with new. It is obvious they don't care about their employees. You are expected to take exactly a 30 minute lunch. By the time you prepare it you only have 15 minutes to eat. They hire rude and incompetent directors. If you take your breaks you are looked down upon. You are severely underpaid, unappreciated, and worked like a slave, rather than an educated employee. Don't work here. You will regret it, I promise.

Literally nothing

Great environment, fair wages and excellent flexibility
Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) –  New JerseyMarch 31, 2018
I’ve been working at EMSL for just about six years. I love my job and the people I work with. The flexibility is awesome. Two optional holidays and birthday added to my 3 weeks vacation time. Management cares about their employees and are always working to improve. Hard work does not go unnoticed!
Pros
Flexibility, paid time off and nice work environment
Cons
Medical benefits could be better but this is difficult every where

Good starting job
Asbestos (Current Employee) –  NJJune 23, 2018
Good place to get a starting job out of college. Lots of overtime expected which helps balance out the lower pay. Although hard to balance personal life/social life with the amount of hours needed to work. Some branch labs are better to work at than others. I would suggest moving from branch to branch every couple of years to grow professionally. Lots of internal growth opportunities if willing to move and in good standing with the company.
Pros
Good vacation package for fresh out of college workers (1-3 years out of school)
Cons
Excessive overtime expected in some locations, with limited months to use vacation time, and sometimes work load can be overwhelming/stressful

Productive work place with plenty to do everyday
Intern Chemistry assistant (Former Employee) –  Cinnaminson, NJJune 13, 2018
The day starts with you getting into lab and right to work. Your supervisor will tell you what needs to be done for the day and you get started doing it. I learned plenty about several analytical chemistry techniques I did not know about before. Management was easy to work with and out of the way most of the time.

"Overall view of the company"
Analyst (Former Employee) –  Cinnaminson, NJNovember 18, 2017
Bad hours. Ridiculous amounts of work. Perpetually understaffed. THE PAY IS TERRIBLE. Awful benefits, I had to pay $335/month for medical insurance for ONE healthy adult. No bonus. Management expected miracles to happen in order to cover the work load. No paid breaks. ONE week paid vacation a year, and they will not let you use it during the summer. TWO personal days a year. Non-compete contract.
Pros
Flexible work schedule if you are not in corporate.
Cons
There is a high cost of healthcare, no 401k matching, and less 1% profit sharing, Salary is a joke, Christmas bonus was $25, Family owned operation, If you are not related to Family then you are not getting paid what you are worth.

Great place to start out a lab career but not a place to advance
Microscopist (Current Employee) –  Phoenix, AZOctober 9, 2018
It was a good place to gain more experience in the field, but a lack of training program hurts new employees trying to learn the ropes. Better for either people just starting out to see if this is a field they would like to stay in.

Great Summer Job for college student
Lab Analyst (Former Employee) –  Carle Place, NYAugust 25, 2018
Worked here as an asbestos analyst for 2 summers. It was a great summer job for a college student, but I’m not sure how great it would have been as a full time job. Flexible scheduling, decent pay, and ability to work only during summer break made it a perfect job for college students.

The family run management style was sometimes a challenge to tolerate. One must have a steadfast personal focus to funtion here and be able to rise above any suspicion of bias treatment.

Decent job - Family owned
Laboratory Director (Current Employee) –  New York, NYJune 17, 2017
If you understand the fact that you have to work hard then the job is OK. If you are looking for a relaxed environment then this company isn't it. Many people do well at EMSL and it is a good learning environment. It is family owned and operated which has its upsides and downsides. Upside - not always looking at the profit like large corporations do. Downside - slower to get new things put that's not to say the equipment doesn't work.
Pros
Stability if you actually do work and not decided to sit around.
Cons
Raises are not as generous as elsewhere. Benefits could be better.

Not a good place for a career
Analytic Food Chemist (Former Employee) –  Cinnaminson, New JerseyFebruary 5, 2015
EMSL is a good stepping stone, but upper management thwarts any upward movement or career advancement unless you happen to be in the family or associated with somebody higher up. No matter how hard you work and how much you learn and how efficient you are you will rarely get a raise. Yearly reviews are not given and not given much thought. The motto is you are are replaceable. I have learned a great deal within the field , I have also learned what i do and do not want in a company. My co-workers are what kept me going and was the best part of the job. The hours are extremely flexible. There wasn't much that was hard about the job besides some unattainable deadlines.I would not recommend this company to anybody looking to move up or make any kind of money

By far the most horrible dysfunctional place to work.
Billing Specialist (Former Employee) –  Cinnaminson, NJMarch 25, 2015
Prior to coming on board with this company, I read up on the company and found nothing but negative reviews about this company. But unfortunately, I did not worst thing possible I could do and that was ignore the reviews. This company is by far the most dysfunctional place I have ever worked at it is not worth the time or headache. You have to always watch your back and everyone comes off friendly and nice, but they are far from friendly they are a bunch of sneaky backstabbers on every level from upper management all the way down to the regular trashy employees. And the employee turnover is extremely high, no job security just horrible all around. I will say this to anyone looking to work here, the negative reviews are 100% accurate you have been warned.
Pros
None
Cons
everything, management, employees, pay, breaks, benefits, definitely not worth the time.
