Don't do it
Artist (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLApril 3, 2019
The job could be great but the management ruins it. They keep losing employees and they always wonder why. They don't look at themselves. The management is petty, rude, they fear monger, spy on you and overall create an environment of tension and fear. You are not allowed to accept tips no matter how much a guest would like to tip you and management has the authority to make your life unlivable while working there. You literally can't do anything about it because they are all friends. If you complain about a manager all they do is tell that specific manager that YOU said something and so the manager can deny it and keep an extra eye on you. It's just a horrible work environment. Please, do not work here.
Pros
Get into parks for free, paint all day

Meh
Artist (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLMarch 10, 2019
The job itself is great. Painting faces is awesome. However the managment isn't great. Communication with the artists and other assistant managers from the office is almost nonexistent. Moral was very low. Option to be creative were limited. Guests are brutal and instead of standing up for yourself in a respectful way you must stoop lower to give the guests whatever they want.
Pros
Painting
Cons
Guests, pay, management, hot

Can be fun, management ruins it
Artist (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLDecember 10, 2018
Opportunity to refine painting skills; Most enjoyable part was painting faces. Hardest part was being outdoors, can only stand, no tips and every paycheck was suspect; I was short a couple times. Petty drama. Office workers are unreliable and want to leave early every day. I see that they'll work their best player into the ground trying to pick up everyone else's slack.
Pros
Painting
Cons
Low pay, no tips, location, poor management

It’s great if you are actually doing your job.
Artist (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLOctober 27, 2018
First of all, this isn’t just an art job. It’s also a big part, guest service job. Many people don’t get that. You can be bad at art and great at guest service and you will do fine here. Management does there best, but there is only so much they can do if a person doesn’t even try. That’s every job. I can safely say that most people that complain about management are the people who expect the world for a penny.
They are always looking to see who can be nominated as employee of the month and who they can promote. And they are constantly trying to see what they can do to make the artists life less stressful, while also staying within the restrictive boundaries Disney has set.
I’m not saying this is a career job and I don’t believe they think that either, but you are guaranteed hours, start at $11 and hour and get into the parks for free as well as passes. Sounds great.
The worst part is probably the repetitive conversations you have with guests. You have to talk to them and ask questions if you want to get some diversity in your conversations. That, however, is most jobs, so if you are looking for something that doesn’t have you interacting with people so you can hide in the back and daydream, then look somewhere else. This isn’t for you.
Pros
Free theme park access, hours, decent wage
Cons
It can get pretty hot, talking to guests gets repetitive.

Fun Job for a short time
Face Artist/ Cashier (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLSeptember 9, 2018
This is a really great job for artist, or potential artist to get into the Disney parks. It's a really fun job and absolutely rewarding except for the management team. The sheer lack of communication and organization, along with the lack of growth opportunities makes it a dead end job. If you think you want a career in some artistic field and you want free Disney passes try it out.
Pros
Main Gate Disney pass, work in the Disney parks

Get paid to paint!
Artist (Current Employee) –  Disney SpringsApril 19, 2018
The job pays $10/hr and has many opportunities for overtime if you want to make $15/hr after working 40/week, but also gives out these benefits:

-snacks (chips, cookies, nuts, granola bars, etc.)
-annual raises based on performance
-thank you program to earn paid time off and vacation or you can cash in the extra hours for extra money in your paycheck
-park self admission (USF/IOA, Disney, you can also use your USF/IOA id badge to get into Sea World and Busch Gardens Tampa for free)
-park merchandise discounts (20% off of Disney merchandise, 30% off of USF/IOA merchandise which increases to 50% off for the holidays)
-park food and beverage discounts (USF/IOA & Disney)
-park hopper comp passes for your guests to Disney
-park hopper sign in passes for your guests to USF/IOA
-movie tickets during the holidays and peak seasons
-gift cards (for target, gas, etc.)
-employee of the month bonuses
-hand drawn digital comic caricatures for doing a good job
-good job tickets as rewards for going above and beyond that you can turn in for gift cards
-gigs
-gig buck rewards
-hand warmers in winter

Not only do you get to do something artistic and get paid for it, but there's a chance to get all these extras!
Pros
All of these perks!
Cons
It gets hot in the summer, so escaping the heat is impossible.

Lots of hours available - mostly fun job
Face Painter (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLMarch 16, 2018
I had a good experience at this company. My manager was very helpful to me especially when I first started. There were lots of hours available and I was usually offered overtime. The job is really fast paced most of the time and the theme park guests can really keep you busy. Most of the guests are nice though.
The job is outside which can be hard in the summer because it can be really hot. For me this was the hardest part of the job.
A typical day at this job is filled with talking with theme park guests and painting their faces. There are strict guidelines at all theme parks (no sitting while at work, costume/uniform has to be exact, can't use your phone while on the clock, etc) but I liked that the costume was provided and that the job was really fun mostly.
If you like art and you like working with people, then I would recommend this job.
I also liked that the company brought in snacks sometimes and gave out little gift bags at the holidays.
Pros
theme park admission, lots of hours available, nice manager
Cons
outside in summer, standing for the whole shift

Fun but not enough pay
Artist (Former Employee) –  Disney SpringsNovember 28, 2017
I mostly worked Disney Springs and loved it. The vibe isn't stressful like the parks are and the management there is friendly and understanding and actually helpful when you have an issue. Much better than in the parks. The downside is we're no longer able to take tips out there which would help the company actually keep people working longer at no extra cost to them.
Pros
Decent discounts, not working in the parks
Cons
Constantly giving away/declining tips & gratuities

What could be an amazing job the company itself ruins
Artist (Current Employee) –  Orlando, FLNovember 3, 2017
It's no surprise that what could be an amazing job gets ruined by terrible management and careless owners. The owners make terrible marketing decisions and do mediocre work in anything they're involved in. The people who run the office go out of their way to avoid working and the few times they actually manage to work they can't even work half of their shift. The managers are always MIA for most of the day and pass on their work on their assistants. When they are around all they do is nitpick on the little things they observe. The highest you can advance is assistant manager unless you're willing to sell your soul to the company for 15 years for a shot at manager. The pay is not worth what you go through and for being creative. The weather can get annoying especially when it gets really humid. The company is full of high school drama where people can't be honest and are always two faced and talking about other people behind their backs and spreading rumors. There's definitely a reason why this company is always hiring.

Really easy job
Face Painter (Current Employee) –  Orlando, FLOctober 24, 2017
I've worked in a few other roles at Disney World and face painting is actually one of the better jobs at Disney. The act of painting is fun, some of the kids are really cute, but you do have to repeat yourself when giving directions to guests especially on how to pay which can be irritating. A credit card update to the register system would relieve half of the stress all of the artists feel in a given day. I can tell some of the managers really care about the artists, and get involved in learning about our lives and ambitions, a few will even help by offering support on how to achieve them, but some don't try as hard as the others. Staying positive through it all is key, you rely on your co workers so much that their attitude and level of effort can either make or break your day, but when you boil it all down, the job is really easy.
Pros
Disney World and Universal Studios food and merch discounts, free Disney & Universal park admission
Cons
Heat, standing all day, short staffed

If you like painting and are very creative, this job would be perfect for you.
Artist (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLAugust 27, 2017
They are very patient with you while you are trying to learn how to face paint, which does take some adjustment. The Florida sun can be quiet unbearable, but the managers are pretty understanding when it comes to going in the shade, or going the back to cool off for a bit. The hardest part of the job would possibly be the guest that come in, most are very nice but statistically their are bound to be some bad ones, but your coworkers always intervene and help you out.
Pros
painting, coworkers, Disney

Great Job Culture, but Poor Leadership Team
Artist (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLApril 20, 2017
I loved what I did while working as an artist for Enjoy Your Face, Inc. I enjoyed being creative and associating with my fellow workmates. However, the leadership team wasn't the best. They overworked people, they didn't recognize contributions and reward good work, they didn't honor their commitments, and there were no room for growth. It saddens me because I would have definitely stayed if it wasn't for their poor leadership skills.

Face Painter (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLJuly 24, 2016
Overall a good place to work at. The managment could be better,. It should be less favortisim and more focused on the dedication the artist gives to the guest to make their experience more enjoyable through the rest of the day.
Pros
Hour break, good pay, increase art skill
Cons
Horrible managment, no patid time off, no vacations, always work holidays

Face Painter / Artist (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLSeptember 11, 2015
Fun at first, difficult in summer; management sometimes supportive, often not, of personal or health concerns. Be wary of gossip, management, twisted words. A great temporary job, with a great paycheck.

Make your day as fun as you can, work overtime if possible, save up those paychecks, and bail out.

Be wary of anonymous complaints- no such thing. But overall nice people, at least to your face.
Pros
creative, good compensation
Cons
draining, no personal life, disillusionment

Makeup Artist (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLFebruary 25, 2015
company doesn't believe in sick days if you need time off you will have to switch with somebody...most of the senior artist are great mentors and help you .. however the rest are only worried about themselves ... if something is not convenient they will not do it or even make the newbies do it... they will go through employees like tissue paper ... every other week there's a new batch of new trainees... they will not move you ahead if you do not fit a certain mold and most managers just care about making their friends who work with them happy....some managers even haze newbies...
Pros
you learn the tricks of the trade
Cons
politics and drama
