Job Culture
I joined Equinor in 2018 and have really enjoyed my work. There are some great people within this organization and leadership really cares about personal growth and success. There are, of course, always going to be a few bad apples in every organization, but overall the people have been great to work with. I see the company values echoed in leadership's management style with examples such as providing town halls to communicate company changes, prioritizing training for personal development, fostering a continuous feedback culture, and encouragement of internal movement.

There are a lot of wonderful benefits for employees, especially in the US. Generous vacation/sick leave, health benefits are better than any other organization I have ever been at, 401K available, and lots of other perks that vary by location. I especially love having a 9/80 schedule and their Houston office is a great campus to be located at with lots of amenities on site (multiple cafeterias, dry cleaning, gym, etc.).

Since Equinor is based out of Norway, we obviously have to take our direction from their leadership team and objectives. This can be difficult at times, but, if you have a global mindset, it is a great opportunity to learn a different way of thinking and experience a work culture that is very different from American led organizations. I especially have enjoyed how global our office is with lots of diversity which leads to new ways of thinking.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Equinor as a great place to work!
Pros
9/80 schedule for Texas locations, high focus on work/life balance, culture promotes development and internal movement
Cons
Strong Norwegian influence can be difficult for some people to acclimate to

Regulatory Leader is a terrible leader. There's constant turnover due to her. Good people quit because of her treatment and others are let go even though they are doing an awesome job. Leader is a nut case and should not be a leader.

Confusing and forced work place. General employees were never part of decision making. It is a Norwegian Company doing business in the World but it doesnt take in the local cultures and provides special attention to and special benefits to expats from Norway.
Pros
Great Benefits
Cons
Poor Management and lack of direction

Leaders are protected and transferred to lead departments despite having no competence or understanding of those functions. HR managers at all levels are liars and bullies who exhibit absolutely zero integrity and function only to protect their own interest without any regard for the company’s interests. They terminate long-term employees and new employees at will if they are threatened by their competence, and they protect their low performing team members at all costs to protect their own positions without challenge. This is all done in the name of Norwegian “culture”. If you are a high performer with high morals and character who wants to be valued for contributing to the good of a company, this is not the place for you. They will tempt you with great benefits, but only those without a conscious will survive in this toxic incompetent culture.

Managers manage up and have limited real business experience. No long-term commitment to staff. Skill disregarded; politics is all. Have no business trying to operate onshore US, should keep to offshore Norway.
Pros
Discounted meals, pay
Cons
Work load distribution; accountability; crummy management

While the benefits are nice, there does not appear to be much room for advancement. Engineers do get the chance to rotate between operations, production, and reservoir, thereby getting a well-rounded work experience--great for the career. There are some good, talented people working in operations yet they are overworked.

Offices are split between Houston and Austin. The Houston office is an awful cube farm (includes managers) and bookshelves are forbidden.
Though the Austin office is crowded, it is a much more friendly and lively culture. I always enjoyed working at the Austin office.

IT service is arguably the worst; there are too few of them so workers frequently struggle with computer issues and an offshore response system. The company boasts being IT-savvy but unfortunately it is far behind many others I've worked at.

In many ways it was a great place to work - mainly because of the people that I met there & worked with. Serious management deficiencies - the work not organized very well. Promises made & not kept.

This company is in dire need of a Diversity program for it's US offices, especially Houston if it wants to compete with major US oil companies for the best talent. Currently, managers have unethical hiring and firing methods. Norwegian Management personnel are much easier to work with than the biased US Management personnel. Not a place to expect a long term career!

Open Work space environment may work for Noweigan offices, but stressful and demeaning in US work culture.
Pros
9/80 work schedule
Cons
Retains a very high volume of contract employees for very long periods of time, with very little chance of ever being hired

Cost cutting is a problem. Culture is very Norweigian by nature. Most people there are not a fan of their processes.

This company is great to work for and provides excellent benefits and unlimited possibilities for opportunities if you work hard and are willing to think outside the box and get involved in training and development on professional and personal levels.

The hours can be long but the balance is that you get every other Friday off with a nine eighty schedule and they have many activities such as sports events and charity events like the MS 150, the rodeo and the Dynamo soccer team that the company sponsors, in which you can participate it all year long.

The culture is very International and primarily European in the office since the company is based out of Norway so there are many different languages spoken and cultures within the office.
Management can be difficult and the political climate can be stiff but that is anywhere you go, but for the most part, if you work hard and know your job and be willing to learn new things and educate yourself, you will excel and do very well in this company.

And they compensate very generously with their benefits and invest in their employees by growing and developing you through training and seminars.
Pros
Benefits are excellent, 9/80 schedule
Cons
Management/ Censor and Control a Lot

Statoil has good benefits that are comparable with the industry. I will elaborate only on Houston Onshore. Not much to praise about.
They lack established processes and nothing runs smoothly.

The work environment is OPEN seating which is very stifling, distracting, and not set up for professionals of our trade.
The management style is one sided and shallow. The politics are designed to confuse and made up to fit the situation at that time.

Big turnover in employees over the last 5 years. Not much improvement since.
Pros
Half price lunches. 9/80 schedule
Cons
Competent Management lacking

hard work, but worth the time you've put in.
excellent benefits

co-workers are a little clickish - hangs in groups

hardest part of the job is staying out of groups, and being able to deliver "right now"
meeting goals and achievements are the most enjoyable part of the job.
Pros
1/2 price lunch, discounts on fitness center, nice christmas parties
Cons
poor education practices, have to wait for explanations on things
