Not a good place a lot of turnover in all areas including nursing, rehab and management. Not very clean poor hygiene often doing other jobs outside of your responsibility, had covid break with 15 deaths

When I first started working at Essex Center it was very short staffed in all departments and still is. Most staff do not stay long because of many issues. The pay isn't very good, being short staffed all the time, lack of supervision, lack of on going training, not being able to provide adequate care to the residents, too much work put on workers because of the lack of staff, too many staff working double shifts because of lack of workers, not enough diversity, too many friends and family working there, favoritism causing division of employers, no professionalism if so very little, no bonuses and no pay rises. The environment is very toxic from the building needing badly overdue repairs some repairs are a safety hazard to the residents. There is still workers not wearing the appropriate ppe and the gloves are not appropriate for health care workers. The Department of Health has been there many times and nothing changes. There has been many unreported incidents concerning residents health and numerous falls. The residents are not getting the proper care and are being neglected everyday. The place is dirty. The rooms are not being cleaned appropriately and the residents bedding can be soiled for days before being changed. The physical therapy department are the best workers there. They go beyond their duties everyday to care for the residents and a few nurses and cnas do also. I left because of after years of dealing with the ongoing issues it was started to effect my on well being. I deeply cared for the residents and no longer wanted to be apart of a place being ran so awful. I feel real bad these residents have to live there under such bad conditions.

Run, do not walk, run from this company. I’d rather struggle and live in a dumpster then work for this organization. Management sucks, always short staffed, no appreciation, dirty nasty building, they cannot keep workers and it’s like a revolving door of uneducated people.

A lot of distrspect towards the aides. Aides are been given more responsibilites and a lot of color discrimination. Accidents occur and pushed under the mat when it happens with the white aides, and coloured are FIRED especially agency workers.

I love what I do but it’s very demanding and stressful. It is fast paced which isn’t for everyone but I personally love. You have to have a lot of patience for the people you work with. And remember when you work on a nursing home you are working in someone’s home.

Interview Questions

If I had any experience, would I work weekends and would I work overtime if needed. My interview was very short but interviewer knew I had experience.
