Days can vary a lot, but here's at attempt to capture a "typical" day: quick stand-up meeting, skim some arXiv papers, run something in a Jupyter notebook, review team members' pull requests, find and squash a bug, make fun of my Director of Engineering, lunch, discussion with teammates about current work, think about what we should do in the next sprint, talk about something random... To get a bit more concrete, there's a lot of Python and machine learning (PyTorch and/or TensorFlow) applied to problems in computer vision and/or signal processing. The best part of my job is the people that I work with. Everyone has their own skill set, but they are very good at what they do and generous with their time in helping others. They are also funny and interesting to talk to!The hardest part of the job is... maybe the uncertainty when you're trying to achieve the goal of the project at a certain level of performance, and there are so many ways you could get there, but there's no pre-defined steps to follow. I suppose that's part of the fun, though. The work culture is very collaborative, I think, which I kind of indicated above. Another defining aspect of the culture is that people have a lot of autonomy in terms of both their technical approach to tasks and what roles they take on in their career. I like that the CEO encourages people to have a good work/life balance, which means that I think he has to literally tell some people to work less.

I love coming to work everyday! It's really that simple, but for a variety of reasons. The work we do is intellectually satisfying, we get to do it on our own terms, and with a great group of capable, smart, collaborative people. My job specifically deals with applications of deep learning in the computer vision and signal processing domains. The nature of the work itself is such that you have to stay on top of cutting edge research, but we still keep an eye on deploying solutions that bring tangible benefit to our customers. Meaningful research. Additionally, you have a good amount of flexibility when it comes to how, when, and where you get your work done.I also learn something from someone everyday. If I'm working on something and need help, everyone at the company (including the CEO) is at my disposal and that pretty much always means someone with relevant experience can help. People are also empowered to take on responsibility as it presents itself regardless of experience level. This is especially beneficial to younger people early in their career because it allows them to try out different aspects of projects/roles/responsibilities while they are still feeling out what they are good at and want to be doing.Overall, a great place to work on challenging problems with awesome people.

Overall, EXP is a great place to work! Management promotes a good work-life balance, the content of the work is intellectually engaging, and the workplace is incredibly supportive and collaborative. My favorite part of EXP is the people. They are some of the smartest people I've met, and I learn so much collaborating with them. There is a culture of growth at EXP that encourages everyone to keep learning-- from infrastructure, software packages, and code techniques to the latest machine learning and signal processing research. The level of collaboration is unmatched, without a cubicle to be found. We work in teams where everyone has a say in the direction we take, what work should be done, and who should do it. Management is responsive to the interests of the employees, taking care to place engineers on the projects where they will be engaged and giving everyone a say in what they work on.The work we do tends to fall into the buckets of image and signal processing, with most people working primarily in one of the two domains. The projects are at the forefront of their respective fields, and creative solutions are encouraged. One critique I have of EXP is that a lot of the machine learning projects use similar methods, which can become repetitive. Still, I know that I always have the option to try out other projects in more unfamiliar domains.

We are at the cutting edge of AI/ML for USG computer vision and signal processing. There is a great blend of work be it research or software leaning with tons of growth opportunities. I started working here right out of graduate school and have been able to work with all aspects of AI/ML stack from data cleaning/preparation, model design, training and tuning, and model deployment on both cloud and the edge. Given the wide range of things to do here I can see myself staying here for a long time because there is no limit to what you can learn, and the opportunities just keep coming in faster and faster as more government customers learn that we provide the best AI/ML products in the country for USG challenges.

As a software engineer, I've learned a lot about Python development and deploying software in a cloud-based environments like AWS while working at Expedition Technology. There are always new technical challenges to tackle which give me opportunities to learn new skills, tools, and technology. I feel that I have a lot of autonomy to research and create solutions to the technical problems we work on.I really enjoy working with and learning from the talented people here - they do a great job keeping the technical bar high while also creating a fun environment. The hardest part of the job is probably juggling multiple projects with different schedules.
