I have found the Fairfax County work environment to be very relaxed and welcoming where children are happy to come to school each day. I learned to be a supportive team player.

What is the best part of working at the company?Good place to work. The County is wealthy and has money to burn and it shows in its spending and pay. Lots of bloat and unnecessary spending to meet its budget in order to get more in the next fiscal year. This was very troubling to me. I saw a lot of problems. But this actually helped us as employees but hurts the county as a whole.What is the most stressful part about working at the company?There really wasn’t too much stress because of the over staffing which made the workload light. Too many supervisors and employees in each department. Typical government. Did not like the WOKE CULTURE.What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Bloat and woke. Crazy how much waste I saw in spending and over staffing.What is a typical day like for you at the company?A lot of nothing. Not enough work because of the amount of employees and supervisors in each department. Too many supervisors on top of supervisors overseeing a few of the actual work force.

I also found that it’s frowned upon to say when you have been mistreated. There’s a “just be quiet and take it” mentality.What is a typical day like for you at the company?I worked with students and staff and I loved that part of my job.

FCPS is a great place to work. They have highly functioning teams that manage all aspects of the school system, from the admin and teachers in the schools to the bus drivers and maintenance teams the make the school livable. I worked in tech support for 22 years and enjoyed every day! Some days were tough, but the folks I worked with were caring and extremely professional. I always felt like I was able to contribute to the teaching and learning that was going on in the school system.

Room for improvement

You really have to be careful which admin you end up with. Some can be truly backstabbing. Some students are placed in classes that they really shouldn’t be in and some general education teachers are rude when it comes to inclusion.The good, finding an amazing team who is supportive. I had one amazing admin team at a school before I went to my last school. I truly loved it! I love how supportive some parents are.

Stressed

Teachers are overwhelmed with the workload amount and also with the high level of need from students who need behavioral support. This will not change until all stakeholders take a serious look at how our current systems function within education. It really does take a village support and raise children and they need more support than we are currently giving them.
