Used to be a great place to work but much has changed

Used to be a great place to work but a lot has changed over the years. Lots of restructure and changes with new leadership. Many leaders don’t know the job of those they are leading. Workload is heavy and work life balance has become a thing of the past. You get great vacation and sick time that you never feel you can use. Good benefits, and good pay but you sacrifice your time and sanity and often feel overwhelmed.

Because of the wonderful clientele it's an easy place to work if you are not professionally ambitious.

What is the best part of working at the company?Working for the farmer and rancher customer/owners. Really high quality people! What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Lack of complete written procedures with frequent changes in policy or organization with little advance notice. Working outside of Omaha headquarters means frequent insufficient staffing and unequal access to training or other professional opportunities. Working outside Omaha offers minimal or no opportunity for advancement. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Insincere. Promotes diversity yet any dissent, disagreement or difference from the majority is looked down upon. Numerous women of varying positions and tenure feel they are held back based on gender. Men are more likely to be hired into the company and promoted to leadership. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Start at 8, prioritize existing and new workflow, answer the phone throughout the day.

Great place to work.

Good pay and benefits. I enjoy working here. The culture is also good. Health insurance is pretty comparable to other companies. Time off is also good.

It has been voted to be the #1 place to work for several years, I definitely experienced that!

What is the best part of working at the company?Work/family life balance - remote work available, the culture of the organization is awesome and caring for its employees , customers and the communities we serve. I worked there for 30 years and loved it!What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The learning curve with continously changing new technology. It benefits us all so as it is necessary! What is the work environment and culture like at the company?I believe I already answered that but I would add very good pay and benefits.

Great facility, great people - but if you're not a cool kid you'll never get promoted

I liked the people I worked with until they brought in a new outside hire to run our department. There were several internal candidates who would've been a perfect fit for the leadership role and all of them were informed that they weren't even going to be interviewed. I knew the outside hire from a previous employer and expressed my concerns prior to her start date. These concerns were not kept in confidence and instead shared with my new boss's boss. Almost immediately I went from perfect ratings and bonuses to being put on a PIP and having salary taken away. Also - they will promote the same person 4 times in a year, but unless you're one of the chosen few, advancement is almost impossible.

Pros

Free soda, great building.

Cons

Management is never people focused.

Cliques in the office combined with administrative tactics made it an easy decision not to return for a third tax season.

What is the best part of working at the company? The clients have various businesses and are very interesting to talk with. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? There are certain people that were not very pleasant to work with. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Work environment was tense during tax season. Otherwise conditions at work place were professional and people worked well together. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Work day began at 8 a.m. There were usually a few meetings during the week. The job required a lot of time at the computer. There was a half hour allowed for lunch. End of workday was around 5 p.m.

More Travel Required

The culture of the office is great. My biggest complaint was that their was significantly more travel required then I was told in the interview. If you don't mind travel and you enjoy sales its a great job.

Work with co-workers was great! Leadership needs major help! Employees need a better way of reviewing their leader. Annual survey does not work!

What is the best part of working at the company?Good pay & benefits; co-workersWhat is the most stressful part about working at the company?Leadership was horrible. Not there to help when you needed them. They shouldn’t earn what they do. We should be able to meet with our VP’s leader and give our input on how she is doing. Annual Survey DOES NOTHING for help!! What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Between co-workers it is great. Leadership is TERRIBLE!!What is a typical day like for you at the company?Busy all the time with work. No slow-down.

Moderate Pay for Tremendous Sacrifice

Company constantly restructures. Underperforming divisions are cut in totality without regard to individual contributions. Benefits are good because they are managed at national level and not by regionally FCSA itself. Pay will look competitive for most positions but also most employees have to work more than 40 hours to keep up with workload, if not 50 to 60. Work life balance is nonexistent.

Great People and Workplace, Contractors Beware

The full time staff at FCSA, and specifically in the data neighborhood, are extremely intelligent and helpful. It's a great place to learn and feel supported in your journey to become a better data professional. Even when they're busy (which they always are), your teammates will find a way to make the time to answer your questions and help you grow. The FCSA leaders value their company culture over all things, and part of that culture is being nice. It's a reason many people like working there, but also a reason to be wary. Play nice, and be careful in being too direct and to the point in your messages. Besides that, the major caveat is that contractors need to remember that you're always replaceable. They can cancel your contract without any notice for whatever reason they see fit, without so much as a "goodbye, thanks for your hard work." They will pick a nice person over a hard working and technically capable person if they find that the latter does not fit the culture. Do not forget that you're just a contractor to them. They will not tolerate communication related frustrations with contractors (they're more lenient about technical frustrations, but even that has its limit). There are also not many full time positions to transition to, despite them always saying the goal is to "change that badge from contractor to full time!"If you can get past that, and can fit that type of culture, then you're honestly in great hands. There are few better places to learn and grow if you're a young data professional.

Reputable company

Strong and admirable company, senior leaders seem pretty approachable and show a genuine amount of care. Leaders down the line it is harder to see that.

Used to be amazing

The company has taken a sharp turn. 2020 made this company a place you are excited to go, to a place that made it so hard. 2020 should have been the one time they should have been their most caring of employees. It became a nightmare. The CEO retirement, did not help. The replacement changed so much, you became an easily replaced #.

Pros

Free Pop, milks, and and juice

Cons

HR and leaders not learning everything they need to know. When an issue happens, they should be procedure in place.

THE PEOPLE, seriously the people you work with on a day to day make the company amazing to work for.

The people and culture make FCSA a great place to work. The events and constant activity makes working feel less of a job and an opportunity to learn more about other areas and the goals of the business.

The people you work with are great and supportive.

Just an overall great place to work. Paid fair and really cared about work life balance. It was a hard choice to leave. Everyone wants to help out but also fun.

Productivity goals based on billings.

Productivey goals are based on individual billings. Unfair allocation of assigned jobs to reach those goals, and allocations of jobs are left in the hands of few.

Pros

Pay and time off is excellent

Cons

Workplace culture is a 1 at best.

Job Security

Great company, inconsistent leaders. Recently, there has been a big exit of IT talent from FCSA due to a change in CEO and CIO. Now that emp are working from home its unknown how important the massive money spent on office space at corp.

Pros

Flex time, benefits, nice facilities

Cons

Long hrs, older emp base, lack luster leaders

Great Mission, Poor Management

Take a poll of most of the people who have previously worked at Farm Credit Services of America and you will hear that they liked the company but hated management. The pay, benefits, and mission are wonderful. But if you are a driven individual, you will eventually become frustrated at the lack of meaningful direction from management.

Pros

Compensation, benefits, mission

Cons

Management
