Not the best but NOT the worst either

The agency and the mission that it has is great. The supervisors are supportive of advancement and growth. The only down side is the expense of the benefits that are offered. You are literally working to pay for health insurance which is ridiculous

Toxic Work Environment

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. There are so many reasons I could give, but I will just say, I worked here for over 3 years and the only reason I stayed so long is because of the people I worked every day to keep safe. The work environment is extremely hostile, leadership provides no support. Their finance person is the HR person and completely invalidates everything and anything. They truly make you feel like you’re the problem. No wonder this place has extreme turnover, they can’t keep anyone because they don’t support them. The last thing I will say, if you truly love your mental health, do not work at this place. They value working you to death over your wellness. Leadership will also micro manage you until you feel extremely incompetent doing your job. There is nothing positive about working in this environment and I would never recommend it even to my worst enemy.

Cons

Mental Health, hostile work environment, workplace harassment, incompetent leadership

Rewarding & Purpose

Working in the non-profit industry, every day in the office can look different, but each and every one very rewarding. I enjoy working along side my co-workers, who are the friendliest people I have ever worked with and who help one another during those stressful/exhausting days. I know what I am doing is making a positive impact on our community and proud to be alongside like-minded individuals.

Tough and rewarding work

Fast paced work environment and no day is the same. Supporting victims in crisis navigate systems. Opportunity to grown and learn new things. While the work is hard and there is very little down time while there you are helping people every day.

Pros

growth, supportive team, fast-paced, no day is the same

Difficult but necessary work

The agency is mission-driven and most want to do good work. It can be frustrating when some are not in it for the right reasons. There is a strong sense of team and the job can be what you make it. This work is really difficult (though nothing in comparison to clients) but can be so rewarding. PTO benefits are good (more than other places).

Pros

stong connection to mission and purpose, promotes staff leadership, supports people in the community when other agencies don't

Cons

fast-paced work environment (some like this)

Overall a joke

A complete joke. The idea of helping victims is amazing and when you do it actually is rewarding but most often than not. But victims are leaving situations and not knowing what they’re walking into. Talk about what background check! They highered abusers who were in their own data base system. Management is so ridiculous, they turn everything on you and make it “you” issue. You can ask your supervisor for advise or mention an issue and they want you to figure it out. You get blamed if there was a discharge but yet are told you can’t force someone to stay in shelter. Location is constantly disclosed yet nothing is done about it, when policy says discharge. Constant safety issues. No one gets written up, people could call out back to back and you be stuck in shelter for days an no one gets introuble. Your coworkers are usually good because they understand you. Pay is ok. Benefits are ok.

Meaningful work but tiring with ineffective management

Pros: the salary & the importance of the work. The agency has a variety of services that really help a lot of survivorsCon: very high turnover so there is no team building or friendship with coworkers. The sick time/ benefits are also seriously lacking especially during the Covid era. 1 sick day accrued at the end of the month is not enough in my opinion.

Look elsewhere for work

Can't trust management. It's a real clique. You are in or you are out from the beginning. A lot of pressure. Have to work without pay at some things. They don't support you.

Pros

None

Cons

A lot

A hypocritical workspace with working “lunches” meaning you work 8 hours without eating a good amount of the time

I highly recommend working here to gain experience only. Do not get comfortable it’s very clique and management is so “woke” that any thing that you say or do that doesn’t match that is treated like blasphemy. Supervisors do not penalize people who do the wrong thing and do not encourage those who do. They offer an amazing service to the community but do not extend the effort to their workers. Plus there is no job security at any time good or bad you could loose your job because of “funding”

work on your way to something else

The best part about this job is your coworkers. They claim to be inclusive and a help to the community but management are narcissists and r*cists who want funding, not to actually improve the lives of their clients. The mission statement is just that, a statement. you will be expected to go above and beyond for free. if you're going to work here, apply after the holiday season. they do not allow employees (they don't like) to take medical leave. all in all, this job/org is a mess parading as a helpful community Taskforce.

Pros

coworkers, working in community

Cons

management, low pay, will be expected to work late and travel

Amazing mission, amazing coworkers

The people I have met here are wonderful and for the most part passionate about the work. Definitely understaffed and underpaid but that’s social work :/

Great people

I enjoy working at Fearless! and their employees. Everyone is extremely helpful, friendly, compassionate and are fun to be around. I love knowing that what I do every day makes a difference. The management is family-oriented and is very easy to talk to. The work can be difficult to handle sometimes but there is a wonderful support system.

Awesome work, unhelpful management

The work is important. The services provided to clients are amazing and helpful to the community. Great job to gain experience, would have stayed longer if I had stronger supervision/support. Shelter is always available to individuals and families in need without discrimination. Never know what you are walking into for the day. Water cooler is not provided in shelter, and staff gets a "working lunch" aka if we are busy we don't get a break. Staffs safety concerns are addressed without a sense of urgency. Did not always feel comfortable with some COVID-19 processes. My desk was not 6 feet from my coworkers nor the office door to speak to clients. More cleaning needs to be done on each shift, consistently having to pick up others slack. Additional protections are needed/would be appreciated to keep everyone safe in vehicle transportation during the pandemic.

Pros

Helping clients

Cons

short/lack of breaks

build great rapport and relationships with colleagues and clients

Can overwork employees. Tough work for thick skinned folks who love to empower others in a world that always minimizes victims, survivors, and marginalized groups. Must be knowledgeable about DV and well rounded. Also should always be able to think on their feet and always be ready to support and advocate for folks. Draining work but very rewarding work.

Stressful workplace

Management was difficult. Training was lacking. New peoplw were expected to learn the job by themselves. There was no mentoring program so t was easy to make an error.

Very nice group of people.

During the time that was employed by them, I enjoyed during the research projects and conducting or being part of a workshop when scheduled. Enjoyed working with a great team.

Pros

Good communication

Cons

Traveling in bad weather

Must have a passion for DV

This small not for profit is very family oriented and organized. A great job for someone interested in social work and effecting change in the lives of trauma survivors.

Great mission

Great mission and staff is well trained. Poor payment for their staff who are emotionally involved with clients on a consistent basis.
