Customer Service Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, MOMay 17, 2018
Working at the Fed I started with speaking with incoming calls and making outbound calls daily. Working with different banks and building relationships inside and outside of the Federal Reserve Bank. I enjoyed with the banks in their day to day operations. Helping to assist customers with getting setup to use the federal reserve system.
Pros
set schedule
Cons
advancement was not really available

Senior Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, KSApril 26, 2018
Big company with lots of pros. Gym, cafeteria, and other benefits. Parking stinks. You have to dress up Mon-Fri. No jeans ever. They do not adapt to change well. Overall good place.

Overall a Good Experience
Quality Assurance Engineer II (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, MOApril 16, 2018
While the specific role that I was contracted to perform was both fun and challenging, the people and the atmosphere and culture was enjoyable.

Unfortunately, there was usually more downtime that was comfortable for me. I would spend the time usually reviewing other documentation and process flows, but management was pretty mired in continuing their decades-old process. Any mention of change or shortening a timeframe was severally frowned upon.

Most of the full time employees that I met had been there for a long time and the remainder of the group was made up of contractors that seemed to turn over quickly. Apparently there was little conversion opportunities for contractors.
Pros
Covered parking, onsite employee workout facilities

Professional, structured work environment and hours. Rarely required overtime. Most staff had long tenure so job advancement opportunities were rare.
Pros
consistent work hours
Cons
little job advancement due to longevity of staff tenure

Be cautious
Financial Analyst II (Current Employee) –  Kansas City, KSJanuary 28, 2018
This is a company with great security. When you combine the benefits with the salary, it is about market average. Salary is lower than average but benefits are greater than average. However, outside of that, I would not recommend working here. If you are the type that wants to just coast by and have a stable job, then this may be a company for you. If you are highly motivated and want to be rewarded for outperforming your peers, than I would not recommend working here. The culture is very conservative and old fashioned. They do not accept new ideas and do not underestimate the weight placed on the hierarchy. Unless you are a manager or officer, your ideas will not ever be seriously considered. Promotions often come based on a time schedule for how long you have been there unless you are just obviously underperforming then it will take a little longer than normal.
Pros
Never work more than 40 hours a week, not stressful, and high job security
Cons
Not progressive, stuck in old ways of doing things, performance not adequately rewarded, no leadership in management

Great place to work for the detail oriented
Bank Examiner (Former Employee) –  Denver, COAugust 28, 2017
Great place if you like to go into the weeds for your work. However, you will not be appreciated. Pay is very low compared to other regulatory agencies and they will try to sell you on work/life balance instead of giving you actual money. People are nice, management is hit or miss, I was extremely lucky.
Pros
Great benefits
Cons
Poor pay

Great Benefits
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, MOJune 26, 2017
A typical day is just taking inbound and making outbound calls regarding transactions of either wires or book entry securities. The coworkers are great for the most part however this department is under new management which is not always a good thing. They micromanage to the point that you second guess your actions after many years of service. They want to reinvent the wheel and try to make it more efficient but instead they have no compassion or standards on trying to better their employees but rather treat them like they are replaceable or belittle them instead of empowering them.
Pros
benefits, cafeteria on sight
Cons
management micromanages too much

Public Affairs Intern (Former Employee) –  Omaha, NEMay 31, 2017
Able to work independently and with other branches on joint projects. Very comfortable setting with friendly environment. The management created monthly events such as movie day and sweet treats to give workers a chance to bond and converse about things other than work. Busy workload up until the final day of internship.

Sr. Customer Support Specialist I (Current Employee) –  Kansas City, KSMarch 22, 2017
This department I worked in, Wholesale Operations, is too rigid and old school. The staff members have alot of tenure and do not like change. Training is non-existent - there is no class room type of training offer for the job,
Pros
Cafeteria, Safe Work Enviorment
Cons
Too many rules, regulations, and policies

Unhappy workplace that is still in the stone ages when it started over 100 years ago. Inexperienced management that don't know how to manage their direct reports.

The Federal Reserve is a great place to work. You will have to wait your turn in order to get a promotion. Outside of that it is a solid place to work.

Vault Teller/Operating Clerk (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, MOMay 15, 2016
This company is great for beginners out of college who have nothing but work to look forward to. If you are older when you begin working here it is difficult to have good work life balance in some of the departments.

This company does let its employees in some areas to mingle and celebrate certain events.

Vault Teller/Operating Clerk (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, KSApril 6, 2016
I enjoyed working at the Fed it was just to far from my home. I did not like sitting in traffic to and from work. Co-workers were the best, management had some learning to do. I do not like when someone is management and has never done the work.
Pros
benefits such as 401, pension, pay
Cons
long hours
