Good company
Security Officer (Current Employee) - Augusta, ME - January 13, 2022
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI find that changes have been improved. The benefits could be better. However my management works with me to help me improve my skills. If I have a question there is always someone who is willing to lead me in the right direction. Every company has flaws but this one seems to want to change some of theirs.
Pros
Schedule and understanding of family life
Cons
Pay could be better for what we do.

Long days/nights, sometimes boring sometimes not.
Private Security Officer (Current Employee) - Scarborough, ME - October 14, 2023
Typically 12+ hour shifts, some of the shift leaders are cool some are not. Management is cool depending who you are. Some locations suck, and you'll get stuck there even if you say you don't like it at that location. Have to wait for coworkers to relieve you of your shift, sometimes they'll be late by a few hours.

Security Officer (Current Employee) - Portland, ME - January 5, 2023
You only get four hours of "training" of a site which can be a lot of info or not enough to understand task. Most of the time you're learning things on your own. You deal with people who are mentally ill without any sort of protection if you were in a bad situation on site. You work alone, so if something happened no one would know until next shift change depending on location. They say no experience needed, but knowing simple CPR & dealing with mentally ill should be at least a requirement or officers should have basic knowledge how to handle a situation. If you want to have a life outside of work forget about it. They don't want you to sleep on sites, but gives you long hours and sometimes only getting a few hours of sleep before the next shift. Sometimes they'll ask if you want to pick up extra shifts other times they just give it to you.
Pros
Some sites you can bring laptop or book because you're just sitting there
Cons
Lack of communication, lack of training, long shifts, lack of safety, poor management

Not a terrible company depending on where you were put
Armed Security Officer (Former Employee) - Augusta, ME - October 17, 2021
I was in charge of securing a National Guard base while employed there. The soldiers I worked for were very nice people, I loved working where I was at, but in the end, the part that made me want to leave was due to broken promises, I was made to feel that our group was very important to the overall company, and when the time came closer to acknowledge it, the company made their point very clear as to what our group was worth. Shortly after I was able to find more gainful employment else where
Pros
Great work enviroment, nice leaders, good entry level security
Cons
Security company and National Guard often had issues with how the security should be handled, causing confusion in the guards as to how they were supposed to enforce the policies, also the fire arms training was non existant

Great company to work for.
Security Officer (Current Employee) - Portland, ME - September 24, 2021
I have worked for several security companies since 1997 and here at First Protection I am treated with respect and dignity. The supervisors work hard right alongside their officers and work hard to respond to and resolve any issues that might arise. Keep up the good work.
Pros
Great Supervisors, good pay for the jobs we do.

Horrible place to work
Corporal/Supervisor (Former Employee) - Camp chamberlain augusta maine - September 14, 2021
The company does not care about its employees also the company does not have any standard operating guidelines to be able to discipline the employees. Constantly getting threatened to be pulled to sites that could be up to 70 miles away from your home and 50 miles away from the augusta site. The lack of sick days and vacation time that was taking away. Also they took away paid holidays from the employees. On holidays they force someone to take a day off and not get paid either. This company is absolutely horrible to work for with management in Scarborough is non existing. I recommend to skip over this employer as they are an absolute disgrace to work for

Terrible place to work. Low paying with no raises. Management lies and gives empty promises. They will change your schedule without letting You know or giving You a heads up. Benefits are terrible and they try to get every penny out of you that they can. I advise staying away from this place.

Look for something else
Patrol Officer (Former Employee) - Scarborough, ME - July 14, 2021
To start, you will be expected to furnish your own firearm (patrol). If you already have a 9mm pistol, great. If not, you must buy one. You will also be paying for your uniforms. Right off the bat, you’re down about $700-$900 before you clock in for your first shift if you do not have your own pistol. This company operates on a high level of turnover. During my short few months working here, I watched half of patrol come and go. There is a very obvious resentment between management, the workers, and the owner. I don’t think I met one person here without something negative to say about everyone else. Expect to be gossiped about. I would strongly caution against working here. There are much better options, especially if you’re looking for a job with growth potential.
Pros
Panama schedule, if that’s your thing
Cons
Too many to list

Horrid company.
Security Officer (Former Employee) - Westbrook, ME - March 30, 2021
Management is unproffessional and allow the harrasment of their employees by other employees. They treat people different if they are LGBT or if they are a woman such as lower pay. There is no care for the health and safety of employees the armed guard division is provided with out of date body armor that I would not trust to protect them.

Firefighter/EMT (Former Employee) - Westbrook, ME - March 11, 2021
The company under pays employees who have more experience, they allow harrasment of employees and constantly reduces benefits despite its growth under covid, the management doesnt know the work their own employees do and they overwork people.

Co-workers are only good part
Armed Security Guard (Former Employee) - Scarborough, ME - January 28, 2021
You have a panama schedule, 3 on 4 off and week after 4 on 3 off all 11 hour night shift. The only benefits you get is health insurance and very expensive. Management is very bad and don’t understand what employees do. Co-workers were the only thing keeping me there. Wouldn’t recommend. During my time working there (3 months) I saw around 5 people come and go.
Pros
Co-workers, decent pay
Cons
Only night shift, poor management

Simple but detail intensive
Security Officer (Former Employee) - Scarborough, ME - June 29, 2020
If I was still in the area I would go back in a heartbeat. Long hours but always seemed to be a focused environment and the team is outstanding. Never had a complaint with the management.
Pros
occasional sea dogs game, and cudos
Cons
long hours and rarely a set schedule

Excellent Company
Armed Patrol Officer (Current Employee) - Portland, ME - March 8, 2020
Armed Patrol Division is dynamic and fast paced. The variety and ever changing pace ensures that no two shifts are the same. If you are a “worker” and enjoy the possibility of overtime you will like it here. Being self motivated and proactive will be essential for you stay engaged. Overall great and growing company!

If you're looking to grow with a company, this is the job for you.
Employee (Current Employee) - USA - March 6, 2020
That does mean there are growing pains, work life balance is difficult here, and there are frequent policy changes and reactionary decisions, but there has been a steady rate of improvement in quality of life, as well as pay. Communication has improved dramatically, and things are only getting better.

Excellent for the Disciplined/Self-Motivated
Security Officer (Current Employee) - USA - March 3, 2020
Work starts with 8-12 hour shifts depending on site. Management is very responsive and will accommodate requests to the the best of their ability. If you can arrive at the right time at the right place consistently, you will be treated very well. Best part of the job is the company itself and the opportunity to meet new and (mostly) interesting people everyday. People who are shy and/or don’t enjoy shift work may have difficulty doing any form of security work.

Working Experience
Employee (Current Employee) - USA - March 3, 2020
I have been employed for over 4 1/2 years and have not only progressed, but seen colleagues get promoted as well. I like that while at a site a Manager may randomly stop by just to see how your shift is going. I've always had positive experiences with the employees, but the patrol division truly is something to aspire for. Overall a great job if you are looking for a stepping stone to law enforcement or a career in the private field.

Great working environment
Employee (Current Employee) - USA - March 3, 2020
I have been working for First Protection Services for almost 3 years. In that time I have enjoyed seeing smiling faces coming into work. Not only with the people I work with but also that people we work for. We have developed a great working relationship with the customer and it makes coming into work that much greater. It is great knowing you have support from the top down. There are a few days that can be long, but as an employee I'm well compensated on getting rest and recovery in order for me to give my 100% attention to my job.

Great place to work
Security Officer (Current Employee) - USA - March 2, 2020
Great company to work for. Have always felt supported and valued by management. They are fair and strategic with placement of security officers at their multiple work sites and easy to contact when needed.
