Instructor in Redondo Beach, CA

The kids are lovely and some of the staff are too. They do not take covid that seriously and will still try to push you to work with sick clients. It can be a draining job with all the driving, and more compensation for the driving would be something to improve on. Again most staff are great and inviting, but there’s also a few with big egos that make it hard to want to keep working. There’s not a good work & life balance at all, you have no time to take care of yourself.
Senior Human Resources Business Partner in Redondo Beach, CA

FirstSteps for Kids has been my home for the last 6 years now. I was recruited for the instructor position at my university’s job fair and have been happily employed here ever since! I am proud to work for an organization that does such meaningful work and improves the lives of so many children! The company’s mission, the warm people and the inclusive company culture were what drew me to the company and the reason that I am still here so many years later. I have held multiple positions within the company and one thing that I am extremely grateful for is the consistent opportunities for continued growth and development. I’ve been so lucky to have supervisors who not only helped foster my passion for Human Resources but have continued to provide me with an encouraging and supportive environment to cultivate my skills and establish myself as a leader within the company. I am now finishing up my master’s program and eagerly look forward to shifting all my focus back to my career. My goal is to continue helping our organization grow and inviting our newest colleagues to revel in the great company culture we have at FirstSteps!
Regional Training Manager in Los Angeles, CA
on March 1, 2022
FirstSteps for Kids has been my home for the majority of my professional career. We value professional growth, collaboration and camaraderie and take pride in providing the highest quality care for as many kiddos as we can. This all begins on day 1 in the way that we train our staff. Our training truly sets us apart from the rest and provides our new staff with the tools and knowledge that they need to succeed, as well as the rationale behind each technique to help empower them as a new instructor. The nature of this field presents daily challenges and an initial learning curve, but the life changing rewards by far outweigh any challenge and this career will be one of the most rewarding things you will ever do!

Overall, FirstSteps is pretty great. I learn a lot every single day but the job is just not for everyone - you really have to have a passion for working with children on the autism spectrum. A couple months into the job I was already feeling burnt out and constantly stressed. There's a lot of driving involved because you have to drive from session to session (if you're working full time and therefore more than one session per day), but they do compensate you for that. I think the starting pay is ridiculously low for the area they're in, and for how much of the heavy lifting we do as instructors, working directly with the kids and families every day. This company does help you find covers when you are sick or need a day off, so that's a great part of the company! The company also encourages you to have fun with the kids you work with, and it makes the job a lot more fun and fulfilling in an otherwise very stressful industry.
Regional Clinic Director in Redondo Beach, CA
on February 15, 2022
I have been with FirstSteps for over 16 years; I joined the company soon after I graduated college and have made it my home ever since. Along the way, I decided to lean into ABA as a career and FirstSteps inspired me to get my graduate degree and offered a host of advancement opportunities. I started in somewhat of an entry level position and have moved up to the role of Regional Clinic Director of our Redondo Beach office. This field is not an easy or stress-free one, and the business model is quite complicated. However, FirstSteps holds high clinical standards while focusing on an inclusive and warm culture. I have immense respect for my colleagues and supervisors, and have in fact turned many work relationships into strong friendships. While we are not always perfect, I have unwavering trust that the FirstSteps leadership is always acting in the best interest of all employees and clients and there is integrity and meaning behind all we do. I enjoy the opportunity to mentor and support those I supervise and the ultimate reward is contributing to and witnessing client progress. I appreciate the opportunity to work at a company wherein the company's values align with my own.
