Ok for entry-level, but don’t plan on staying.
Billing Clerk (Former Employee) – Manitowoc, WI – December 29, 2018
Billing hires at about $12.00/hr. After you’re fully trained (6+ weeks) it goes up to $.50 or so with the potential for $100 monthly incentive. You process insurance and patient payments and take phone calls; it’s much more of a call center than they would have you believe. The customer service aspect is horrible - angry patients all the time, and often for legitimate reasons, and management does not seem to have any interest in minimizing the number of angry patients, and has even made unnecessary changes knowing it will result in more calls. The pay is low for this type of work and you are chained to your desk by the phone queues. Vacation time and sick pay are combined, and unpaid time off is not typically granted. Christmas Eve and New Years Eve are not paid holidays anymore. Technically there are advancement opportunities, but it is not really the type of workplace most people would want to advance in, and the turnover rate is extremely high. Company is acquiring new practices so fast that they can’t even keep up. It’s a good place to get some office-job experience if you’re fresh out of school or trying to get out of retail or something, but it’s not the kind of place most people want to build a career within. Get in and get out with a year of experience or so under your belt.
Nice coworkers and billing managers, frequent potlucks and small parties. Genuine attempt at company culture.
Constant incoming phone calls, lack of flexibility, not enough time off.
