great place to work
Journeyman Welder (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WAFebruary 16, 2019
Foss is a great place to work as long as they have work to be done in the yard. Over the past year with management changes and scheduling conflicts it has been really slow.

SAP Shipyard Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WA & Rainier, ORJanuary 4, 2019
Foss Maritime has a rich history and continued contribution in maritime service that makes me proud to be part of the team at Foss. The work is challenging, which is much better for me, than rote work. There are opportunities for advancement and compensation and the benefits are good.
Pros
Challenging work, great team members
Cons
business unit silos make change difficult, possible but difficult.

Contract Management / Project Controls (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WASeptember 25, 2018
In past three company has gone through 2 major orgs. Very stressful and unfriendly work environment. No direction and support is given by management. Highly hostile work environment. Excepted to work over sick leave and vacation. Very difficult to request time off. Need proof / doctors note for taking sick leave.

Boilermaker Welder / Fitter (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAJuly 13, 2018
Loved it. morning lined out who was going where and to start or finish work. people got to work with partner (s) or solo. Once assigned you stayed on project till it was finished. Did not get to see steel shop foreman out in the job unless really needed. He was hard to talk to sometimes if you made a mistake. Hard to catch in a good mood as well. The hardest part of the job was going to your job foreman etc and not being able to solve problems and then being left to figure out the answer. The best part was when things went smoothly. It was hard to read and figure out drawings a lot. poorly drawn drawings on new build. The best part was learning by doing.Working with someone who could teach you new ways of doing things. also being able to stay with partner if you got on good together.
Pros
free motor pool or bus pass
Cons
none

Shipwright (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAMay 25, 2018
Spent time in and out of tugboats and a variety of other working boats that call the Pacific NW home. The variety was great and the people to be around in my shop were easy to be with. Did anything from staging in ballast tanks to interior joinery.
Pros
Union Job
Cons
Other trades not always easy to get along with

I would like to work for Foss on a permanent basis; however, the job was full-time, temporary work. I liked to company atmosphere and the benefits that are offered for permanent employees.

Maritime tugboat company that recently underwent massive reformation.
Deckhand Engineer (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WASeptember 21, 2017
Excellent reputation and great standards of safety. Foss is currently re-working their business model and will take some time to recover. Most office personnel have been replaced and roughly half the deckhands (Inland Boatman's Union) have been laid off.
