I was always busy and there was little to be bored about. We had a lot of laughs and it was rewarding to see the final product when the newspaper was published.

Manager was not at all supportive. I was let go for what another girl was doing (phone calls being made on company time). You can’t go to management with an issue because they will turn you away to deal with it on your own.

The company required a 13-hour work day for salaried mid-managers. As the industry contracted, it was necessary to do the job with fewer and fewer people. The schedule was grueling. That said, the work was extremely satisfying and cutting edge as the industry moved into the digital age. Tremendous opportunities to grow and learn new skill sets to bring us into the information age. The hardest part of the job was the extremely long work day that extended from early morning until well into the evening and required social media postings at home long after the regular work day was done.

Its a paper with limited resources that tries its best to work with what it has. it is pretty quick paced and it is on you to get it done. Great if you like to work independent.

Eight-ten hour days not for the timid; must distance writing from your emotions; newspaper is top-heavy on tragedy; death and destruction sucks the life out of your soul
