Loved the work but the people were toxic. Supervisors were more concerned with socializing and their popularity than anything else. Favoritism was quite apparent and bullying was a daily occurrence. I witnessed many employees being mistreated and disrespected by supervisors on a regular basis. Think high-school mean girls, gossiping and unnecessary drama..., that was the daily environment. It was emotionally taxing and unhealthy. Grown adults should not be conducting themselves in such a manner, but the entire office was riddled with this toxic behavior and culture. Uppermanagment was more than aware, acknowledging those who were constantly partaking in the described behavior, but failed to act in fixing anything. I have never in my adult life dealt with such shocking blatant mistreatment.
I think the county offers decent benefits and paid time off, however the rate of pay was not the best considering the cost of living in this area.

Wonderful downtown area and restaurants

Frederick County wonderful to work in love the people/tax payers but techs were overloaded with work/conversions.

Hopefully new CEO balances the load

I personally did not have a problem working here, I loved it, but I needed to advance in my career and FGC was limited at times. I would say that I would like to come back if the right opportunity came along.

The book "The Five Dysfunctions of A Team was written by serving Frederick County DPW. There was an absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability and inattention to results. Personalities were more important than being a effective and efficient organization. Senior leadership did no appreciate divergent opinions.

Productive and allows you to take initiative

Management allowed you to work without micromanaging and allowed you to take initiative to create your own projects within the constraints of the county and their budget. They provided you with various opportunities to expand your skill set with a variety of different projects. On the other hand, they observed a skill you were good at and encouraged you to focus in on it and work on more projects involving those skills. It's a small workplace, which is nice because you get to know everyone on a more personal level. Everybody that worked there was just so nice and willing to help out wherever needed.

Great kids stressful manger

No chance for advancement , and it can be stressful

Lots of hoarding in the buildings you are always cleaning up from the manger bringing junk in

Schedule is never done on time

Some co workers are highly favored


If you can deal with the above , working with the kids is great

Frederick County MD government was what you make of it. The leadership is very much open to suggestions, etc. and that certainly spurred innovative thoughts and ideas.

Frederick County has been through 3 Fire Chiefs in the past 9 years and 4 County Managers in the past 3 years...ALL were very capable people.......STAY AWAY....STAY AWAY.....STAY AWAY.

FCG had been the best place in the world to work. When the new BOCC took office, things went downhill fast. There is absolutely no job security, people are constantly worried about losing their jobs.

Frederick County has many great opportunitys and benefits for their employees. Tuition assistance and reimbursment, paid holidays, vacations and excellent medical and dental insurance. There are also ways to move latteral and vertically throught the county in many different fields. Uniforms are provided and they have a contractor pick up the dirty laundry once a week and have them cleaned for you.
