The food bank has a great mission, unfortunately the current management is underqualified to properly serve the community, clients or employees. Employees are afraid for their jobs and are expected to do much more than they are hired for without compensation. Favortism, lack of follow through and threats have created a hostile work environment. This could be a great place to work, if the current CEO/President was replaced with a qualified management professional.

Job itself isn't bad. I enjoy working with clients on a daily basis and the work we do is good. However, management, ceo, and the board are not employee favorable. They want to see an increase in their numbers for reports and expect employees to do more work than they're being paid for.The company is not expressedly Christian but does push Christian practices on employees during team meetings. There are a few good employees, but overall not a friendly environment to work in. HR has mishandled several issues in the past and has not been corrected, as they are the say all end all here. Unless HR likes you, don't expect them to be on your side.

My daughter is in an after school program called 21st Century and she is required to go volunteer one Saturday each month. When my daughter started helping out at the Galveston County Food Bank I decided that I would help volunteer as well on the days my daughter is scheduled to attend.

Everyone there was amazing and I'm truly honored to have trained there. Although times got tough, they managed to make it work and care for everyone that walked through the door. Everyone that came in was a first priority.

Board of directors lacks understanding of their role, doesn't support staff and is uninvolved; takes credit for the work of the staff and does not care about staff needs; Drivers and behind the scenes staff are the hard-working people that make the organization
