Work & Life Balance

Store Manager in Sterling, VA
on March 14, 2017
fun, fast paced enviornment
Typical workday is broken down to 20% Store Ops, 20% Visual Merchandising and 60% Guest engagement. You have to have good time management to handle the daily tasks. The hardest part of the job is being accountable for certain things that are not controllable. The best part of the job is mentoring and training. Over the 20+ years I have had many people promoted to the next level. The product mix is great and the culture is fun.

I enjoyed my manager and coworkers, but there is a lot of pressure to get people to sign up for rewards and you get lectured if you don't meet that goal. You work alone 99% of the time so when it gets busy customers can get irritated and sometimes yell. For the most part the customers that come in are really sweet though. I would definitely recommend the job to people who have a lot of video game knowledge and those who love talking to people.

Horrible upper management. The company pays you very low wages and expects you to do everything. They are too invested in making money and not the well being of the employees. Hours are horrible now so you have to have other income to survive.

Great part time job but outside of holidays hours can be quite low. Discounts on most things in the store except new consoles. Very sales and goal driven environment.

This is my third time working for GameStop, I started this time on Black Friday I had a great manager great team it was a lot of fun. A new manager came in and now I'm not seeing the hours that I used to. This new manager came in and is not acceptable or understanding to people's lifestyles. Working for GameStop you never go in at full time you always start as part time part-time on average is anywhere from one hour to four hours a week give or take for my position it's not a job to work if you're looking to make money it's a job to work if you're looking to make friends and have a good work experience. Unfortunately working for GameStop depends on your crew if you have a good team then you'll have a good job if you don't have a good team then you don't have a good job.
