Store Manager in Sterling, VA
on March 14, 2017
Typical workday is broken down to 20% Store Ops, 20% Visual Merchandising and 60% Guest engagement. You have to have good time management to handle the daily tasks. The hardest part of the job is being accountable for certain things that are not controllable. The best part of the job is mentoring and training. Over the 20+ years I have had many people promoted to the next level. The product mix is great and the culture is fun.

This is the worst job i have ever had. The pressure to get numbers is unbearable. The new leadership has made apparent to push out anyone but yes men. Hours do not exist, work life balance is non existent, the pay is trash. If i could give this place a 0 star rating i would. Go literally anywhere.

My team is fantastic! we all enjoy working alongside one another, and the tasking is really fun in my opinion. I do enjoy talking to the customers that come in and help them find what they need. BUT the metrics will absolutely drag you down. Corporate will constantly change the focus on what to push and they'll make sure you're shoving it down everyone's throats until they say yes. I've seen so many customers leave gamestop to shop elsewhere because they don't feel pressure to sign up for a membership/ attach guarantees to everything they buy/ preorder something every time they come. If we dont produce results (over 30% warranty attach etc) we get written up, and later handed correctives. It's absolutely exhausting. The upper management is tone deaf to what its like in stores and each request we as employees have falls on deaf ears. the pay is abysmal. the position above base has 10x the responsibility and gets 50 cents above minimum wage. There are a million reasons to avoid this company, and I won't be the least bit surprised when it goes under.
Customer Service in Pembroke Pines, FL

The interview sold you on limitless opportunity and so many changes to happen that you’d be able to spearhead those changes that fit the direction the company was heading. A couple of months in proved that was not the case and instead having to have a proposal and share with multiple leaders to even change the smallest thing. Told the office was going to be in Fort Lauderdale which turned into Pembroke Pines, was told remote with some days into office to help everyday. You can provide data/research of why you couldn’t complete a task, new trends in place/what GameStop could do instead, which business leaders would agree with but at the end they turn around and you’re to blame. They don’t want to spend money on their current employees to help retention. They don’t want to spend money on systems/programs that would long term benefit the company. Everything is done manual and if you even think about offering a better way, you offer to build it out, it’s turned down because it is feared. Communication lacks between team to team but even within it’s own team. Leadership only thinks you are actually working when they physically see you in office, completely disregards the employees who work through the night. They have no plans to better benefits or pay simply because they say the opportunity of working at GameStop should be more than enough.
