Fast pace with hard deadlines and stress
Operations / Plant Manager (Former Employee) –  Germantown, WISeptember 26, 2018
Gehl's is going thru changes mainly in the management structure. The culture has shifted from a team and family feel to somewhat un personnel and driven by costs and numbers rather than the people that built it.

Electromechanical Technician (Former Employee) –  Germantown, WIMay 15, 2018
Had to deal with a lot of poor organization. Management didn't seem to care much about things. The working atmosphere was not healthy what so ever. Pay was ok.

MAINTENANCE MECHANIC (Former Employee) –  Germantown, WIFebruary 23, 2018
Fast paced place to work with knowledgeable people who are willing to help out where possible. People are great and you know them by name. Free chips and nacho sauce in the break room.

It's like a family
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) –  Germantown, WIJanuary 17, 2018
What I really like about working at Gehl's is like a big giant family. Everyone seems to genuinely care about one another. At times like any job it can be stressful but working with a close team it's takes the stress out of most days. No one takes their titles to their heads everyone says good morning or hello when you pass by no matter there title. I've never had that at other company I've worked for.
Pros
Micro Market, Free nachos & chili, flexible schedules
Cons
Pay

Pretty on the outside
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Germantown, WIOctober 4, 2017
When you start at the company it appears to be a great place to work and grow. The reality is that there are a lot of cut throat people who will do whatever it takes to keep their job. Hours are long and very little direction from management on what you’re doing well or what you should work on. Turn over rate is quite high as well.
Pros
They try to listen to employees
Cons
Lots of talking but no real change

Packaging Engineer (Former Employee) –  Germantown, WISeptember 6, 2017
fast pace - trying to change the culture with a big hammer not concerned with working with people.
All HR are in minority and female - unwritten polices are enforced without exception.

People are great and will do what it takes to help each other, top heavy on management, not clear on direction with lots of mis-communication. Days can be long as there are many inexperienced and is understaffed.

A company in trouble.
Inventory and Scheduling Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Germantown, WIJune 26, 2017
Gehl Foods is a company which is in dire need of good personnel, yet too impatient to let good new people learn positions which experienced staff have had years to train for. Anyone incapable of being superman withing two weeks is considered sub-par, and the temp is then cast off in favor of a new trainee, thus creating a masochistic downward spiral. Gehl could be great, but it mistreats new hires and overworks its qualified permanent staff.

flexible hours on rotating schedule
Blow Mold Injection Operator (Former Employee) –  West Bend, WIJune 17, 2017
most often, the 12 hr shift consisted of looking for work, as far as sorting material, stacking or cleaning due to machine efficiency.
I learned how to adjust the system to monitor resin as it forms into the mold, a little bit about each layer and what they provide for the finished product

always something to do, machines are always running
Electro-mechanical Maintenance Technician (Former Employee) –  Germantown, WIMarch 29, 2017
Working here was usually very busy with a lot of things going on all the time. The operators usually know which way to point you when the machine breaks down but not always. The bosses want you working all the time and that is seldom a problem. Overtime is expected.
Pros
good pay and a paid lunch
Cons
but if they call while your on lunch you have to reply and help them

Coach
Coach (Former Employee) –  Germantown, WINovember 2, 2016
Very poorly managed company, once the family run portion was sold to a private equity firm everything went downhill. Safety is nonexistent in this company, your work schedule will change at the drop of a hat, expected to work 7 days a week as an operator without days off even when asked for, some operators worked 90 days straight without a day off. Pay is very low among operators; training is also very bad because most operators are new because they cannot keep anyone because of the work schedule and low pay. There were good supervisors there however a supervisor was let go for speaking up about the unsafe issues that took place there on a regular basis. No accountability, No ethics, Safety is nonexistent because people are hurt there on average once every 7 days. Very bad company to work for; however they do pay double time on Sundays. The hardest part of this job was dealing with the overwhelming amount of temporary workers that they have coming in that don't speak English, employees that just don't care or don't understand to care.
Pros
Double time pay on Sundays
Cons
Work life balance sucks, Pay, Upper Management, Rotating Door

I came into this company as an entry level machine operator. I quickly picked up the manufacturing process and they cross trained me on many different machines in the packaging department.

A Temporary one week position gained through Aerotech
Quality Assurance Technician (Former Employee) –  Germantown, WIJuly 9, 2014
This position was to test a new products shelf life, the entire day was spent PH testing a new product to ensure that it had a viable shelf life. I learned how to work quickly and efficiently to complete a very large task in a short amount of time. The management was effective at explaining the position. My two other co-workers were very good at their jobs as well as interesting people to meet. The hardest part of the job was maintaining a pace that would complete the 10,000+ samples our shift was responsible for as first shift had a few disasters that drastically slowed their pace. The most enjoyable part of the job was the people that I worked with.
Pros
Good pay for a temporary position
Cons
Loud machinery made earplugs necessary when not in the lab
