used to be a great place to work
Home Health Aide (Former Employee) –  dayton ohioDecember 1, 2018
after it was sold the only thing that became important was money and paperwork not giving care. Management started taking away benefits. Our clients were not important to them anymore. They were just a number.

Autonomy at a price
Nurse (Current Employee) –  Dayton, OHDecember 20, 2017
Very independent position but very little time off, very high priced benefits, very stressful on call, inexperienced management. Charting is a nightmare. They have very little concern for employee safety sending staff to motel rooms and unsafe areas.
Pros
generous bonus plan
Cons
charting, on call, dangerous locations for visits

Toxic work culture
A/R Specialist (Former Employee) –  Centerville, OHAugust 16, 2017
Gem City was a decent place to work at in the beginning, but has gotten progressively worse over the years. The work enviornment is toxic and is run by inept managers who have no business being in those positions. The problem starts from the top on down. Bully managers, gossipers, busy bodies who are into everyone else's business. Toxic coworkers who keep things stirred up and done work well with others. Managers don't address the individual problematic employees but rather coddles and accommodates them. Favortism, lack of support/proper training. Not being kept inform on what's going on with the company, etc. unapproachable, impersonal supervisor who lacks people and leadership skills who get easily irritated/annoyed when asking a question. Departments pitted against each other. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Unfriendly employees throughout building. Nepotism abounds. As another reviewer stated since we merged with evolution a while back they have managed to undermine the billing office.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Toxic work culture, inept managers, dysfunctional, and office bullies

Gem City was a great place to work until they merged with Evolution Health. Evolution has managed to undermine and decimate the billing office with negative management techniques.

Insurance Billing Coordinator - Medicaid Team (Former Employee) –  Dayton, OHApril 20, 2017
They were bought by Envision last year and since then there has been little or no guidance from management for the Billing Department. They do not care about the people that work for them, the only thing they look for is the bottom line. Get the money in! Period! The turn around of employees is a quick one.
Pros
Freedom to get up from your desk as needed for a drink or snack to take back to your desk
Cons
No guidance from management

A great Company
Speech-Language Pathologist (Current Employee) –  Dayton, OHFebruary 21, 2017
Management allows for clinicians to work at their own pace with total autonomy. Company allows for clinicians to develop their own schedule with patients. Management was there 100% of the time when clinicians needed help or had questions. Loved working for them.

Productive, Flexible place to work with great Management
Colleen Moore-RN manager for my area (Former Employee) –  Dayton, OHJanuary 7, 2016
Gem City Home Care is a very good place to work. Rotating schedules for being on Call throughout the weekends and holidays. Your territory for patients was in one area. For example, my territory was Hamilton and Fairfield, Ohio. So, each and every patient was in that area. Each RN has their own territory which makes the entire day and patient care Management better
Pros
Flexible, RN territory to see patients is in one location--not scattered
Cons
Gas reimbursement Poor, Communication with other disciplines such as PT/OT poor return calls

State Tested Nursing Assistant (Former Employee) –  Columbus, OHDecember 8, 2015
Great clients, good compensations, and flexible scheduling but management is not fully organize in the office which makes it hard to effectively communicate with the office and other co-workers.
Pros
compensation, gift cards, employee appreciation parties, and friendly employees
Cons
poor communication within office, should be a team lead HHA to better organize all HHA on Gem City procedures, and overtime.
