if you like the job you will do well, but you will be challenged, and working for every single minute of the day. Your time in the bathroom is tracked.

Not for everyone
Insurance Agent (Current Employee) –  Woodbury, NYApril 16, 2019
This company has great associates. They also have relatively high turnover. They tend to overpromise and under deliver when it comes to opportunities. There are an abundance of supervisor and management trainees who are only focused on building up their resumes and moving on to the next position that they leave a trail of chaos behind them. This negatively affects morale. The benefits are great and the associates that work there are some of the finest people I have ever encountered. The problem is leadership.
Pros
Benefits and compensation
Cons
Management is preoccupied with their own agenda

Supervisor/Customer Service/Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  Virginia Beach, VAMarch 10, 2019
As in all companies there is the good and the bad. Due to many offices it is hard for the White Tower to oversee all of them. The company itself is wonderful.

Compensation, education, work experience

The Government Employees Insurance Company is a great company to work for. Nonetheless, the benefits are great as well. The training provided is world class.

Terrible work environment
Software Developer (Former Employee) –  Chevy Chase, MDNovember 13, 2018
IT dept is a 'sweet shop' - hundreds of developers in close quarters - only to IM and WebEx other team members. Need multiple approvals just attend a Doctor's appt. Telework is only available for upper management. Most developers are H1Bs from India. Technical leads have little or no management and/or interpersonal skills. Difficult to communicate/understand team members. Technical work is leading edge - but the management and environment cancel that 'exposure' out, as a positive benefit.
Pros
Some exposure to leading edge tech
Cons
Work environment, management, physical environment

Productive yet stressful
Claims Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Macon, GANovember 12, 2018
A typical work day included 10 hours of constant inbound and outbound calls to and from customers involved in auto accidents. There were several situations in which callers would be extremely upset or hostile, in which it was your duty to best diffuse the situation and meet the needs of the customer with empathy. You learn an abundance of information about the insurance world and claims handling and laws specific to each state. Management tried their best to make the fast-paced call center environment fun by implementing games, contests, and activities to participate in. The hardest part of the job was dissatisfaction of customers on things outside of your control. Also the company sets very high metric ratings that are often unable to reach due to things outside of the employee's control. The management team was also unwilling to accommodate to some needs of their employees. The most enjoyable part was the bonds made with teammates and supervisors that genuinely cared and helped worked towards your further success.
Pros
healthcare and profit sharing
Cons
short breaks, unreachable goals, unaccommodating management

GEICO is a very difficult place to work.
Insurance Agent/Underwriter (Former Employee) –  Poway, CAOctober 16, 2018
I worked for GEICO for 17 years. The benefits are really good. The problem is that when you have worked in the same job for a long time your salary tops out. GEICO knows that they can hire a new person for a lot less. They force out the employees with a lot of tenure who haven't advanced to upper management by making their goals unrealistic and threaten to either fire them or make them take a demotion. When they have purged enough tenured employees then they relax the goals.
Pros
Good Benefits
Cons
Most people who are hired don't stay long as the goals tend to be unrealistic

Insurance Representative (Former Employee) –  Coralville, IASeptember 13, 2018
GEICO is a good place to work in the short term but, it is far too stressful to work there long term. They do a great job of training you in insurance but, prepare to be micromanaged severely.

Resident Producer license # 363096 (Former Employee) –  Honolulu, HISeptember 3, 2018
Pay and benefits was very good. I would've liked working here but I got into the wrong department. I got into sales section instead of customer service - they really push sales and it was hard. Don't recommend sales at all if you're not highly driven. Should close at least 10 auto policies a day to stay afloat. Lots of incentives and nice coworkers though. Even bosses were nice.

pay

Sales Associate/Trainer (Former Employee) –  Virginia Beach, VAAugust 15, 2018
The opportunity to work for the fastest growing company in the insurance industry definitely equipped me with the skill set to be an asset to any professional organization. With emphasis on career and personal development I was able to develop leadership skills that afforded me the opportunity to quickly promote to a position of management; thus allowing me to further enhance and develop critical thinking skills, organizational skills, time management and accountability, decision making, conflict resolution, and delegation.

Company promotes from within, guaranteed salary plus commission potential

This is an incredible company to work for. The opportunity for advancement is incredible, and the benefits are incomparable. The energy is always high. If you start in a position that you are not successful at or happy with, you can just work hard, and find a position that you will ultimately love.

Liability Claims Representative (Former Employee) –  Woodbury, NYAugust 2, 2018
GEICO is very fast-paced and at first it can be extremely stressful when you first get a desk. The work load is immense and if you don't stay on top of it, it is easy to fall behind. After an initial adjustment period, the job can become easier but still fast-paced. They pay well, the bonus in February is nice and they offer good benefits. Positions are consistently opening up for advancement and they promote from within.

Sales Representative (Current Employee) –  Indianapolis, INJuly 19, 2018
This company has not value as an employee and it's very much go go go and never breathe. they advertise that you can make a lot of money but there's also a lot of stipulations on making that money other than your salary. There's like any other sales position out there only bonus it's going to be paying if stipulations are made.
Pros
Money HR
Cons
Very poor leadership

Treated like meat. Have to ask permission to go to the bathroom and if you take too long they come looking for you. Everything is numbers- not fair business at all. Good to their customers though thats it.
