I started as an AS400 technician and night processing. After they retired the AS400s I was moved to days and a more Helpdesk related role. The atmosphere is casual but very busy. Helpdesk supported several different departments with high turnover and government rules and security.

Upper management as a collective whole does not listen to the concerns of the employees. A recent change in CEOs may change it, but the upper management directly beneath the CEO are constantly changing things because they are not seeing instant results. Turnover in the Customer Service department is extremely high because they are run into the ground. Members of Loan Processing are now helping Customer Service day in and day out with zero additional compensation, yet teammates that are not trained are receiving the same pay. They might feed you every so often, but never anything healthy. Everyone in the BLS department is just treated as another body in a chair. Do two full time jobs at once but don’t expect anything for it. Favorites are the only ones who ever advance, on top of it. Run far away from here.

GSM&R services both federal and private student loans. The company is constantly struggling to maintain federal contracts which has led to layoffs, high turnover of employees and company diversification.

This company has a lot of potential and I feel it's working towards it's best point slowly. There are a few chances to thrive and take advantage of different opportunities to learn. If you take advantage of those opportunities then you will be given a chance to shine and be promoted. The tasks can be very challenging and a processor must be willing to adapt and change quickly. Regulations and audit requirements change too so there must be a willingness to identify these changes and recognize how a process must change to accept them.

I worked in a lot of departments and was even a manager, but I did not feel like I was apart of a team. I loved the customers and what I did, but the pay was too low for me to continue working there.

A decent place to work.

The company is a nonprofit organization, so the pay scale is on the low end. However being a student loan organization they have excellent tuition reimbursement program. Most departments have great opportunity for advancement, however the Finance Department has very little opportunity for advancement.
