A wonderful mission and phenomenal staff...
Advancement Manager (Former Employee) –  St. Louis, MOMay 8, 2019
Great Circle's mission is to help children with the highest behavioral needs overcome their challenges and step into a brighter future. This, of course, means the work is challenging and can be stressful. With every success, with every child who achieves and overcomes comes a deeper sense of satisfaction because of the time and energy and effort these kiddos require. The management is well-balanced, focused not only on the quality of the programs (they do expect high quality approaches and do not budge on these expectations - as they shouldn't) but also the sustainability of the agency. Many don't like to talk about it, but programs cost money and exceptional programs cost even more. They are willing to fight both for children and for the funding that it takes to support those children. As a person who has spent 20 years in the development field - this work is not easy and it is often thankless.

As a former advancement manager, I worked alongside both program staff and the executive leadership - situated between both on the hierarchy. There are many claims here that the leadership is out of touch or that management is somehow fraught with corruption. This couldn't be less true. Great Circle is rigorous in their identification of evidence-based approaches and they are equally rigorous in making certain that these programs will be available to children everywhere well into the future. You simply cannot have one without the other. It is refreshing to find an agency that is committed to their mission while using common business sense to ensure that resources are not wasted or
  more... scarce.

My supervisors and colleagues were highly professional, warm, and committed. Those seeking a position where they can simply do whatever they want and not meet goals (because staff not meeting goals means children are not helped) should look elsewhere. You will be held to a high standard of professionalism and required to walk out therapeutic interventions as experts far more intelligent than I am have determined as most successful.

From self-harm to drug addiction to those on the autism spectrum - Great Circle simply has a heart for kids who often slip through the cracks because many don't want to take the time necessary to support them and help them grow.

I am no longer employed at Great Circle, but I left on good terms and continue to admire this agency for the work they do, the people they hire and, most importantly, the children they serve. Well done, Great Circle. Keep up the good work!

The most enjoyable part of the job will be interacting with the clientele. The hardest part of the job is managing a work life balance. There are some days that are easier than others.

Culturally insensitive and incompetent
Intensive In-Home Specialist (Former Employee) –  St. Louis, MOApril 2, 2019
G.C. has major management problems. The organization is reactive. Everyone reacts to situations after the fact. As an employee, your safety is at risk. Supervisors are usually very young, and inexperienced which results in subordinates giving on the job training. Also, mileage policy actually canceled out reimbursements for gas and no compensation for daily wear and tear of personal vehicles.
Pros
Community Service, helping others, Advocacy
Cons
Poor management, no concerns for frontline employees, poor pay, safety

Kids are great
Nurse (Former Employee) –  Saint James, MOMarch 11, 2019
Kids are great...coworkers not so much. Supervisors play favorites and you get away with certain things that shouldn't be excusable under any circumstances as long as you are in good with the right higher ups.

Lead Youthcare Specialist (Current Employee) –  Saint James, MOFebruary 23, 2019
I am currently a lead staff at Great Circle and have been here two years. I love my job. My best advice for someone looking to work here would be to stay observant and do not hold a grudge. It’s troubled youth we are working with so yeah, it gets hectic, but as long as you are strong willed and follow through with consequences than you will not have too much of a problem here. People assume it is a kid jail but it’s a therapeutic residential placement. When and if the kids warm up to you depends on you and your relationship building skills. It is NOT a good job for impatient people that have anger issues themselves. Come apply!!
Pros
The kiddos!
Cons
Location, pay

Director of Advancement (Current Employee) –  Springfield, MOFebruary 12, 2019
This organization has helped me learn to plan strategically and methodically. Employees are connected and support each other. I love that I can share with donors the success stories of kids and families who turn to Great Circle for help.

Would never recommend working here
Youth Care Specialist (Former Employee) –  Springfield, MOJanuary 14, 2019
To start, most of the staff at this campus have slept with each other which leaks drama into every part of this job. The staff, including supervisors, lie and abuse to get what they want no matter how loyal their employees are. I saw kids get abused daily with no repercussions for the staff. Favorites are played and even if you are good at your job, if they don’t like you, you get forced out. This was truly the worst place I’ve ever worked and i feel so bad for the kids in this place.

Great Circle has potential
ADMINISTRATIVE ASISTANT (Current Employee) –  Columbia, MOJanuary 14, 2019
Great Circle organization has the potential to be a great establishment. The idea behind it is superb, and needed. What is lacking is communication between ALL departments. The Supervisors, nor the Executive Leadership have any idea what they are doing nor care to communicate if they have plans. The disconnect between all departments have a huge effect on the children that they help. With this job comes specific obligations, and one of those is making sure that the clientele are being helped. This does not happen well, when staff such as the YCS who work directly with the clients do not get heard or support. While the Supervisors, Department heads, and ELT just dictate responsibility to multiple people and no one takes charge. So the staff suffer, the children suffer, the organization suffers.

The employees do what they want with no punishment
Youth Care Worker (Former Employee) –  Saint James, MOJanuary 13, 2019
The employees so what they want with no consequences. They tell your personal business to the kids. They just don't care. Most of them do drugs and steal.

Supportive coworkers, poor communication from executive level
Administrative Program Assistant (Current Employee) –  Columbia, MODecember 30, 2018
Executive level does not communicate plans/processes in a manner that is clear to employees, and does not have the employees best interest in mind. Example: Started new employee bonus plan where employees can earn up to 1.5% of annual salary, then found a way to deny majority of employees any bonus without letting them know until the day they received their "bonus" pin.
Pros
Supportive colleagues
Cons
Executives do not know day to day operations

Desire to serve children and families
Vice President-CPO of Residential Services (Former Employee) –  Springfield, MODecember 16, 2018
Work by staff and their desire to do good work with difficult children and families is commendable. Significant gap between the majority of staff and executive level. Main issue is attempting to be all things to all people and at time sacrificing fundamentally strong programs for volume. Overly dependent on residential treatment. Certain sites attempt to provide care for more children than the agency has the capacity to staff with quality, leading good staff to leave due to burn out and discouragement.

Terrible place to work. Poor and vindictive management.
Therapeutic Foster Care Case Manager (Former Employee) –  St. Louis, MODecember 9, 2018
I worked for Great Circle for nearly three years and saw a consistent turnover of managers all of whom destroyed the very programs that were meant to help the kiddos. If you want to make a difference look somewhere else because at Great Circle you will be punished for looking out for the well-being of the youth you work with.

Present Lead /Youth Care Specialist (Current Employee) –  Webster Groves, MOOctober 24, 2018
A typical day begins greeting the children and assisting them to start their mornings for school. Once they return they are directed to adhear to their daily schedule which consist of group therapy sessions , outdoor activity , free time, hygeine and bed time. Meals are given three times a day and the children are healthy. Staff is mindful of those who need a special eye but overall the days often end on a good note more than not. The fun part for me as a staff is the opportunities to model good behavior and social interactions . Nurturing is a great opportunity to make them feel supported and cared for. I love my job working with the children

CLINICAL THERAPIST (Former Employee) –  Marshall, MOOctober 8, 2018
