It would be because cosmetologists should make commission not hourly wage, there’s no incentive to do extra work, sell products or educate the client. Repeat customers is the goal

Because I have respect for myself and my career!! I first entered this field 20 years ago and I did so because I love meeting new people and building meaningful relationships w/ my clients also because I love the creativity aspects such as coloring & permanent texturizing.. ALL OF WHICH YOU DO NONE OF @ GREAT CLIPS.. I’m not sure how exactly they call themselves Cosmetologist.. NO WHERE does it say nor have I ever been taught at CREDIBLE Hair shows to fly through a haircut & consultation UNDER 13min. Then push your customer out the door!! It’s a DEASCRASE TO COSMETOLOGY! Not to mention the people they put into MANAGEMENT positions most of which have lost complete control of their personal life’s so when put into a position like that they become HITLER and try to bully and control their staff.. so very sad actually.

Pay is very low, they cut our commission and said they wpuld include the productivity in our pay
Our raises were laughable. We were like dogs and customers come and wine about not getting enough coupons to get a haircut which is only $17. And then they call and complain about there haircut it when they asked for some ridiculous haircut and we have only 15 minutes to do it and then they tip a couple of bucks. Do they not realize we are working class trying to pay rent. No they could careless they have nothing better to do but complain and then the stylist get written up. And the customer gets a free haircut. Oh maybe that's why the turnover is so high. Then they try to take advantage of you and make you work 6-7 days but still keep your hours under 40 so they don't have to pay overtime. Like you have no life. They don't give raises but if they do its a wooping 15 cents.amd the reason you don't get more is because you forgot to clean your baseboard. Paleese.the whole thing is a sham. And it all comes from corporate office having a book for the managers to follow. Basically makes them brainwashed. Won't give raisws but they will hire in someone making more money then everyone because they are desperate for an employee and cut all tje old timers hours for her. I would advise not to work here it will lower your self esteem to it's all time low and you'll end up on depression meds because Great Clips has sucked every last bit of integrity and self worth out of you. And don't say its the franchise because every single Great Clips is ran the exact same way!

The pay is terrible 8.50 hr no raises..they do a 5 point system for bonuses if you can meet all of their standards but if you're slow or your salon is slow you are screwed.

I feel for you. The management you have is bad. I can only hope that your GM or owner understands that because you are all saying the same thing, they should listen. You should get more credit as stylists. X Great Clips Northern California, 8 years.

Appleton, Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay WI total of 8 salons owned by the same owner. These salons are truly disposable jobs. Use you up, burn you out, short staffed. Owner cares only about his bottom line. Will not pay you what your worth. Devalues our profession with 5.99 haircuts. Clients so use to the coupon for cheap haircut they depend on it. Tips are also mostly based on a cheap haircut.you will make more at another salon do less haircuts. It truly a no brainier. This is where stylist who can not find employment at other salons go.
