Material Handler (Former Employee) –  Lombard, ILMarch 17, 2019
This place is a joke.

Unsafe workplace, they want you to give them everything while they give you nothing, constant changes to policies everyday.

All they care about is money, they don't care about you as an employee, they understaff and push people past their breaking point.

They make promises that they don't keep.

Stay away from this place, they shouldn't even be in business.

Field Technician (Current Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHFebruary 14, 2019
I agree with the other reviews on here. They preach safety and if you think the job isn't safe to perform then don't do it but it's a bunch of b.s. They expect installs to get done by hook or crook (just don't get caught because if you do you're on your on). They tell you about employees who would do 80 installs a day that they hated to let go because they got caught breaking the safety rules.REALLY??!??!!!! How did you think they were getting such high numbers? They already know but as long as you get those numbers, and don't get caught, they will pat you on the head and look the other way. Management will lie and lie...and then lie some more. My supervisor showed me how he use to work in the field and that included showing me how he cut corners. This place is a joke!
Pros
You get to take your company truck home
Cons
Unrealistic goals. Supervisors will through you under the bus to make themselves look good.

Meter Technician (Current Employee) –  Pottsville, PADecember 26, 2018
Very poor job
Poor leads
Poor work
They want you to install 51 meters a day but its a numbers game.. the people who kiss the leads butts get all the good work. All they want you to do is fill up there pockets with money they do not care about saftey as they say they do.. all the work trucks are broke or falling apart bald tires ect.. all the leads do is sleep around the hotel and get drunk all day and boss everyone around and rush work but its not possilble work.. ALL THE LEADS must be replaced this is by far the biggest S show i ever seen.
OH AND THEY PROMISE MORE WORK.. well thats never coming they hire and fire 24/7 its a joke!

The life of Grid One
Meter Service Tech (Former Employee) –  ConnecticutNovember 27, 2018
Worked for the company for about 6 months. Probably one of the worst experiences in my entire working career. The job description was very simple and easy. Co-workers were tolerable for the most part a couple of great employees and then there are some usual co workers.

The management though, might've been one of the worst I've ever dealt with. They were mainly nice in the beginning and then became more and more unfair as i started working. Their safety policies are acceptable in which they do a decent job checking to see if "we" we're safe. Besides that they were never in the shop never called on you they say they try to come to the jobs you were located but never do. When they're was slow work they favored people to work those days and let the others take a "day off" no pay. They would lay off people who performance was through the roof than the ones who don't perform at all but been there for a while and had MULTIPLE incidences with the company.

They also dont follow their contact policies. In the territory I was working on, they do not care if the "technician" would service the meter with a bush or obstruction in the way. According the the utility company, the technicians are not allowed to service meters if there is an obstruction in the way. I also heard that their licensed electrician from Maine supervisor works on electrical work in the state of Connecticut, which is also a violation since in the state of Connecticut you have to have the STATE of CONNECTICUT E2 licences to perform service of any kind in the state.

Overall it was a decent 6 months but I will not

Installer Tech (Former Employee) –  Lombard, ILNovember 13, 2018
Grid one is by far one of the worst companies in the industry. I’m suprised Nicor even contracted them. The project will most likely fold because manegement are all unprofessional and unexperienced. Incentive is bogus, they claim you can make this bonus when you average 35+ meters a week but out of the 80 that work there only a handful of people get the bonus and it’s no more than $30 for doing double the work that the average installer is doing. The company has been losing allot of money lately due to unrealistic deadlines they promised Nicor.

Would be a good job if they kept their word
Technician (Former Employee) –  Dayton, OHSeptember 6, 2017
Direct supervisors were cool. At the time of hiring myself and many other employees were promised 2 raises in the first 90 days, never received them. Worked almost every weekend after being told during interview "no weekends," Expected work is a little high, dangerous situations in field. People threatening to shoot you for working on their meter, or aggressive dogs are normal occurrences.
Pros
Company vehicle with fuel paid, decent pay (if they keep their word)
Cons
Dangerous environments, work in all weather including snow and storms
